Although most popular colleges have put up a `houseful' board for honours courses in BCom, economics, English, physics, chemistry and maths, there is a glimmer of hope left. Popular colleges like LSR, Hindu, Ramjas, SGTB Khalsa, Sri Venkateswara will admit students in programmes such as BCom (hons) or economics (hons), starting July 6, though with a dip of upto 0.5%.

The dip in BA programme is huge this time with 43 colleges still admitting students in various combinations by decreasing their cut-off by 2% to 6%. In fact, Daulat Ram, which has closed 12 programmes, has now slashed the BA programme cut-off by 7% to 12% for students from different streams. Hindu has also decreased the cut-off by 2%, while Sri Venkateswara has brought it down by 3% to 4% for different streams.

The BCom programme is another course to bank on. Often regarded as a poor cousin to BCom (Hons), BCom is still open in 28 colleges, including three North Campus colleges. Off-campus colleges like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sri Venkateswara, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce have also released a third list for BCom with a dip of upto 0.75%.

English (Hons) is almost out of reach after the third list. The popular colleges participating in CATE Hindu, IP and Kamala Nehru have closed admissions for English (Hons). There is a dip of 2.5% to 6% in colleges like Ramjas and Khalsa.

For the second consecutive year, Delhi University has not got enough OBC students coming up for admissions. Most colleges have announced a third list for the OBC category across courses with a dip up to 10%.

Bidding goodbye to the monochromatic and monotonous life of school uniforms, youngsters revel in the new-founded freedom to dress as they please. Short kurtas (or popularly called 'kurtis'), broad belts, stretchable jeans, cool goggles and long hair rule any college campus in Delhi University of the day. Myriad colors and hues make their own statement with respect to its wearer and of course with respect to the old adage that goes - 'Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder'!

Here's an overview of things that have been 'in' this year. This year has seen a come back of the Seventies retro trends. Big goggles, slacks paired with long tops, frilly accessories, hair-bands, chunky jewelry and flat shoes have all arrived on the scene again when it comes to the female fashion circuit. In the male world, long hippie style haircuts and loose Bermudas with short tops have hit the scene and are here to stay for some time. With splashes of pinks and reds, men are beginning to explore areas of the color palette hitherto labeled as feminine.

Year in and year out, whether certain thing are in or out, the fact that remains is that the only thing constant in Delhi University campuses is change. Fresh faces with fresh fashion statements will keep thronging the corridors of the university with still fresh ideas and aspirations in the years to come.

The internal assessment system comprised class tests, in-house examinations, written assignments, tutorials, project reports, term papers, seminars and fieldwork, and carried a total weight age of 25%. To make this elaborate evaluation system work according to laid down procedures and schedules, it was necessary to put in place certain critical structures, such as monitoring committees both at the College and at the University level.

In order to ensure that there were the requisite 180 teaching days every year, a six-day teaching week was re-introduced with effect from July 2003. Also, it was legislated that teaching would commence on July 16th and would end not earlier than March23rd. The system of tutorials was strengthened. Mentoring by teachers was institutionalized. A system of academic monitoring and supervision, and student-faculty committees was introduced essentially to ensure that the academic processes are organized effectively.

Ramjas College got over one lakh applications this year with a large number of 90 percenters among them. And it was very difficult for the college not to raise their cut-off this year. These high cut-offs acted as a safeguard against over subscription of seats.

Another popular college for commerce students, Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), has raised the cut-off for BCom (Hons) to 95.25%-98.75% compared to 94.5%-98% last year. In Economics (Hons), this year's cut-off is 93.5%-96.5% against 92.75%-95.75% last year.

There is a clear rise of 3% each in honours programme in History, Political Science and English at SGTB Khalsa College with the cut-offs for Economics (Hons), BCom programme and BCom (Hons) also registering a 0.5% growth each from last year. The disparity between the cut-offs of North Campus colleges and others is more glaring in science programmes.

The cut-offs may be out but admissions will only start on June 26. No college can refuse admission to any qualifying student on any of the three days scheduled for it— June 26, 27 & 29.

Original and photocopy of Class XII mark sheet
Original and photocopy of Class XII certificate
Original and photocopy of Class X certificate (for date of birth)
Character certificate issued by school
Photocopy of a certificate to prove that the candidate has studied Hindi till class VIII for exemption from the compulsory test in Hindi
Original caste certificate in case of OBC candidates
