Pediatric Dentistry - Children Dentistry http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/pediatric-dentistry-children-dentistry.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/pediatric-dentistry-children-dentistry.html Fri, 21 Mar 2008 00:00:00 -0500 According to the convention, the parents of the child perform the initial pediatric dentistry procedures by following some oral hygienic procedures. It is advised to bring the child to the pediatric dentist during the period of their first birthday, for a simple and normal check up. But if it is not possible, then you have to take your children to the dentist positively within his third or fourth birthday. Now, the pediatric Los Angeles kids dentist may perform some complex or simple dentistry procedures to cure the problems regarding the teeth of the child. But it should be noted that the pediatric dentistry procedures are not painful at all. But before the pediatric dentists go for the treatment or the cure procedures, the parents could perform some methods, through which the child dental problems could be prevented or eliminated. To prevent the problems regarding the teeth of the children the parents can go through two premier methods.
First of all, the parents should encourage their children to perform the following acts regarding the oral hygiene. First of all the children should use a good toothbrush and a good toothpaste to brush their teeth for at least two times a day. There are some special kinds of brush made for the children with small head and soft bristles. The children should use those toothbrushes. The parents should remember one thing that the first baby teeth are not only essential to grow the chewing habits for the children, but also important to learn to speak clearly. So it is essential to discourage those children who use to suck their thumbs after a certain age. The thumb sucking could create the problems of the distorted shape of the teeth. The distorted teeth may resist them to learn to speak properly.
Secondly, the parents have to eliminate the imaginary fear regarding the pediatric dentistry and the dentist from the mind of the children. To do so the child should be taken to the dentist to have a normal tooth cleaning. This will ensure them that dentistry is not a painful treatment procedure at all. It will make them habituate to the environment of the dental clinics. It is also advised to the parents to move out from the Children dentist LA cabin while the treatment is on.
Now, it should be noted that the prevention is the better than the treatment. So try to make your children free from any sort of dental problems. Also your child should attend the dental clinics after a certain span. If your children have further problems regarding their teeth there are some more dentistry specializations such as the periodontal therapy, cosmetic dentistry etc.

Forget cellulite, teeth are the new moan http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/forget-cellulite-teeth-are-the-new-moan.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/forget-cellulite-teeth-are-the-new-moan.html Tue, 21 Jul 2009 02:45:13 -0500
The little white(ish) things we use every day from breakfast to dinner are incapable of fixing themselves. A problem occurs and we move down the painful line of filling to root canal treatment to crown and finally to extraction. And of course all these treatments we suffer at ludicrously high costs. So it's no wonder that we've decided to live with cellulite and it's our mouths we're now desperate to protect. But how do we do this?

Firstly, the basics. Brush your teeth for 3 minutes, at least twice a day. Don't rely on elbow grease (remember how much easier it is to whisk egg white with an electronic device?) but choose a good externally powered toothbrush such as the HyG Ionic toothbrush which has the added benefit of being very gentle on your teeth - particularly if yours are prone to sensitivity.

Use dental floss daily and an alcohol free anti-bacterial mouthwash. Always have a glass of water after every meal and snack to wash away any excess food. Ensure your diet is varied with plenty of calcium. Cut down all sugary drinks, sweets and toffees etc - particularly anything that could get stuck in your teeth, which includes dried fruit - and generally rethink your attitude to all sugary food.

But there are ways you can help your dental status even more. Xylitol is now well known to have healthy teeth promoting qualities which is why it is widely used in sugar-free chewing gums, for example Wrigley's Orbit Complete Sugar Free Gum. Have a quick chew of this after every meal to help rid your mouth of harmful bacteria. Or even change to Xylitol instead of sugar. Fluoride, which everyone agrees is good for your teeth if it is naturally occurring, is found in tea, so if you sweeten with Xylitol, there's a double benefit for your teeth. Antioxidants too. I bet you never thought your cuppa with two could be so healthy!

Recent research has suggested that CoQ10 can protect against periodontal disease and is the latest 'key ingredient' in natural toothpastes. Other natural products that have been known to support oral health include aloe vera, myrrh (to protect against Gingivitis), green tea, tea tree oil (when you have inflammation of the gums), Calendula, cinnamon and peppermint oil for its anti-bacterial qualities. You could also try brushing with the root of a Salvadora Persica plant, also known as the 'Toothbrush Tree' which was used traditionally in India for centuries.

So while 'an apple a day' is never a bad thing, it's probably not enough to 'keep the dentist away'. But luckily there are a few more options available to you, so perhaps we'll manage to keep our own teeth (and our bank balance) for a while longer after all.

Financing Your Dental Practice: A Smarter Bet Now…And Later http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/financing-your-dental-practice-a-smarter-bet-nowa%80%A6and-later.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/financing-your-dental-practice-a-smarter-bet-nowa%80%A6and-later.html Wed, 08 Jul 2009 09:14:57 -0500
If you're starting a new dental practice, or upgrading your existing office, there are some very good reasons why you should consider bypassing the local bank and choosing a specialist in dental financing instead. Let's break the benefits into two categories: now and later.

Right now…

The credit market is tight. You never know when you might need to take advantage of a traditional line of credit, or apply for some other type of loan product. Traditional loans, debt and equity need to appear on your practice's balance sheet. However, certain types of partnerships and leases do not. That leaves your credit untouched, and helps ensure that a major investment like a dental practice won't impact you directly.

So, where can you find out how this may apply to your situation, and how to take advantage of the possibilities? Companies like Clarion Financial, which specialize in lending to dentists, are experts in helping their clients discover the best financing options, many of which might not be suggested or even available from the local bank over on Main Street.

"Clarion Financial has the products and solutions to assist dental professionals in each stage of their practice needs," said Todd Bowe, Director of Finance for Clarion Financial, one of just a handful of firms dedicated exclusively to dental practice financing. He says his firm has helped thousands of dentists, many of whom came to Clarion after talking with other lenders first.

And later on…

You'll find that specialists like Clarion Financial offer contracts that can be added to. Need to add a piece of equipment, like a new x-ray, several years into your loan term? No problem, says Clarion's Todd Bowe. Future purchases can be accommodated simply by adding them to your original contract.

Of course, the tax benefits can extend for years after your initial purchases. For this, it's best to talk to another rare specialist: the dental CPA. You may not realize this, but the Academy of Dental CPAs (ADCPA) has been helping dentists find specialists in their areas, and doling out sound advice that's keyed to the specific needs of the dental profession.

Virtually every dentist borrows money. We tend to think of loans as financial burdens. Yet, by getting great advice from a specialist in dental financing, your lender can actually turn out to be a valued partner for many years to come. That can make writing your monthly loan check a lot more pleasant.

Finding a Good Denver, Colorado Dentist http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/finding-a-good-denver-colorado-dentist.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/finding-a-good-denver-colorado-dentist.html Thu, 01 Jan 2009 23:54:03 -0600
Begin by asking friends, family members, neighbors, and work colleagues for recommendations. If they are happy with their dentist, they will be happy enough to offer one. The family doctor and even the pharmacist will likely have solid recommendations as well, and can certainly be trusted to be honest. If all else fails, place a call to the local dental society. The ADA should also have a number of local recommendations. Generally, it is better to talk to more than one dentist before making a final decision.

When considering a dentist, there are a number of things to consider even before getting to the doctor him or herself. The office hours should factor in; they need to be convenient. It should also be easy to find and to get to, both from home and from work.

As to the dentist, when meeting him or her for the first time, it is important to ask questions. For starters, ask where he or she went to school and how he or she actually practices dentistry. Does he or she often go to conferences or workshops which add to his or her training? Ask questions about what kind of anesthesia he or she can give out, as well. It is also necessary to know how the dentist deals with emergencies, especially when they occur after the regularly scheduled office hours. What about the payment plans offered? What are the fees for office visits and procedures? It does not hurt to ask for prices for standard procedures, such as exams, cleanings, X-rays, and getting a cavity filled. That makes it easier to compare different dentist. Ask about the office's policy concerning missed or rescheduled appointments as well.

When visiting the actual office, it pays to make a few observations. For instance, what does the office look around the office itself. Is it neat and clean? How about the staff on hand? Are they friendly and knowledgeable? Do they wear the proper protective gear with examining and providing treatment?

Some things are up to the patient when finding a Denver, Colorado dentist. For instance, any health problems or financial situations should be discussed with any potential dentists. With specific conditions, make sure the dentist has experience or training in taking care of it. Insofar as dental insurance is concerned, make sure the dentist accepts it.

Choosing a new dentist can be an involved process, but it is well worth the effort. In a way, people are deeply involved with their dentists. Further, because oral hygiene and health is so important, it is imperative to trust a new dentist, and to get along with them well. The relationship between dentist and patient needs to be one filled with trust and respect. That is why it is always better to see potential doctors in face to face situations.

Several Complications with Dental Implants http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/several-complications-with-dental-implants.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/several-complications-with-dental-implants.html Mon, 08 Jun 2009 04:03:37 -0500
Dental implants are becoming more popular because of the benefits they could provide and the safety of the procedure assured by many dentists. According to the cosmetic dentist los angeles, implants generally carry a success rate of around 95%, a large percentage for a very complicated procedure. Also, there are no absolute contraindications to implant dentistry. However, there are some systemic, behavioral and anatomic considerations that should be well-thought of.

Complications with Dental Implant

Complications with Lower Jaw Implants

In terms of mandibular (lower jaw) implants, especially in the vicinity of the mental foramen (MF), there must be sufficient alveolar bone above the mandibular canal also called the inferior alveolar canal or IAC, which acts as the conduit for the neurovascular bundle carrying the inferior alveolar nerve or IAN.

Failure to precisely locate the IAN and MF invites surgical insult by the drills and the implant itself. Such insult may cause irreparable damage to the nerve, often felt as a paresthesia (numbness) or dysesthesia (painful numbness) of the gum, lip and chin. This condition may persist for life and may be accompanied by unconscious drooling.

Complications with Tooth Clenching or Grinding

Bruxism (tooth clenching or grinding) is another contraindication. According to the cosmetic dentist los angeles, forces generated during bruxism are particularly detrimental to implants while bone is healing. Micromovements in the implant positioning are associated with increased rates of implant failure. Bruxism continues to pose a threat to implants throughout the life of the recipient.

Natural teeth contain a periodontal ligament allowing each tooth to move and absorb shock in response to vertical and horizontal forces. According to the cosmetic dentist los angeles, once this is replaced by dental implants, this ligament is lost and teeth are immovably anchored directly into the jaw bone. This problem can be minimized by wearing a custom made mouthguard (such an NTI appliance) at night.

Complications after the Operation

Postoperatively, after implants have been placed, there are physical contraindications that prompt rapid action by the implantology team. Excessive or severe pain lasting more than three days is a warning sign, as is excessive bleeding. Constant numbness of the gingiva (gum), lip and chin -- usually noticed after surgical anesthesia wears off -- is another warning sign.

In the latter case, which may be accompanied by severe constant pain, the standard of care calls for diagnosis to determine if the surgical procedure insulted the IAN. A 3D cone beam X-ray provides the necessary data, but even before this step, a prudent implantologist may back out or completely remove an implant in an effort to restore nerve function because delay is usually ineffective. Depending upon the evidence visible with a 3D X-ray, patients may be referred to a specialist in nerve repair. In all cases, speed in diagnosis and treatment are necessary.

TheRecommended Tips on Using the Best Teeth Whitening Products http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/therecommended-tips-on-using-the-best-teeth-whitening-products.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/therecommended-tips-on-using-the-best-teeth-whitening-products.html Fri, 01 Aug 2008 00:00:00 -0500
Although the ADA recommends that professional teeth whitening is the most effective and convenient way to brighten your smiles a few shades lighter than it is now, their site also lists other alternatives to getting results.

They mention the use of whitening gel placed around and inside the front of a mouthpiece. You then place the mouthpiece over your teeth. You will notices that the gel will ooze in between your teeth in order to get full coverage. These gel mouthpieces need to be worn for 1 to 3 hours per session in order to be effective.

Some patients report watering of the mouth while wearing mouthpieces and excess gel that overflows out of the side of the mouthpiece and into your mouth. This is a normal initial reaction and it tends to diminish once you get used to wearing it. You will need to wear your mouthpiece for up to 20 to 40 hours in order to complete the whole process.

A very popular method of teeth whitening is by using whitening strips. A great time to use them is while taking a shower or a bath. I know a lot of people who use them this way as a part of their morning or evening hygiene routine. They incorporate it during this time so they don't forget to miss a treatment.

Some people also prefer to only whiten their upper teeth or their lower teeth at different times. Often times they feel awkward having both strips in place and studies have shown that their mouths overflow from saliva or gel while they have both intact.

Most people inevitably swalloww a small amount of whitening gel. This is quite common and is only a small amount. Do not be alarmed if this happens to you. It will probably taste bad, but there are no hazards for those who swallow a small amount of gel.

It is wise to keep whitening gels and strips away from children. If they swallow any of the whitening gel then you should contact your local Center for Poison Control just to be on the safe side since most children won't show any side effects. I hope you find some good use for these tips on using the best teeth whitening products and have brighter smiles.

Dental Composite, The Good and The Bad http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/dental-composite-the-good-and-the-bad.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/dental/dental-composite-the-good-and-the-bad.html Thu, 04 Jun 2009 17:52:39 -0500 cosmetic dentistry los angeles centers, synthetic resins evolved as restorative materials because of they are insoluble, aesthetically pleasing, and insensitive to dehydration composition. Another factor for their popularity is their affordability.
Advantages

The main advantage of composite resins over other materials such as amalgam and gold is their tendency to be more aesthetically pleasing. Unlike amalgam, composites can be made in a wide variety of colors allowing composite resins to blend perfectly along with other teeth. The discovery of acid etching (producing enamel irregularities ranging from 5-30 micrometers in depth) of teeth to allow a micromechanical bond to the tooth allows good adhesion of the restoration to the tooth. This means that unlike silver filling, there is no need for the dentist to create retentive features destroying healthy tooth.
Disadvantages

The downside to composite resins when compared to amalgam, according to cosmetic dentistry los angeles centers, is a shorter lifespan of the filling, and the high likelihood of requiring root canal therapy if the failure of the filling is not caught quickly. Amalgam fillings may crack a portion of the tooth off, but otherwise tend to fail at a much slower rate.

Methods of Application

Unlike amalgam, dental composite resins can be used for both direct and indirect restoration. Placing direct dental composites on teeth are performed by licensed dentists in a clinical setting . This is usually accomplished with a handheld curing light that emits specific wavelengths keyed to the initiator and catalyst packages involved.
Direct dental composites can be used for:

*Filling gaps (diastemas) between teeth using a shell-like veneer or

*Minor reshaping of teeth

*Partial crowns on single teeth

Indirect dental composites done by cosmetic dentistry los angeles centers is cured outside the mouth. This is usually done in a processing unit that is capable of delivering higher intensities and levels of energy than handheld lights can. Indirect composites have been known to have higher filler levels, and are cured for longer times. As a result, they have higher levels and depths of cure than directly applied composites.
Indirect dental composites can be used for:

*Filling cavities in teeth, as fillings, inlays and/or onlays

*Filling gaps (diastemas) between teeth using a shell-like veneer or

*Reshaping of teeth

*Full or partial crowns on single teeth

*And even bridges spanning 2-3 teeth
