Today Omega 3 has become one of the most popular additives to our diet. Today apart from fish quite many options of getting omega 3 are available in the market . Getting sufficient omega 3 in the diet has proven to be quite effective in preventing heart disease. If you're already suffering from a heart disease, it can be quite beneficial for you too. This means that omega 3 is good for everyone. All of us need omega 3.

The most popular way to get sufficient omega 3 is by eating fish. This is one of the best and the easiest way to get enough of omega 3. Consuming fatty fish, such as salmon, tuna, halibut, mackerel or herring only twice a week a week is sufficient. 4 ounce of salmon provides you with 2 grams of omega 3. The same amount of halibut gives you just 0.6 grams and tuna provides you with 0.4 grams. All the above data is based on eating 4 ounce servings. When eating fish, frying is not recommended. It has been found that even if you are eating fish a lot, if it's fried, you are not getting the omega 3 benefits. Eating non fried is highly recommended.

If you cannot eat fish due to any reason, then eat some of the following foods containing ALA. ALA can also be got from the plant products, which most of the people consider to be much safer and easier to get as compared to fish. Eating tofu or soybeans, using Canola oil, flax seed oil or eating flax seeds, English walnuts are all ways of getting omega 3 . Some of the best ones are flax seeds, which just eating one fourth of a cup full of them would give you a whopping 7 grams of the omega 3 fatty acids you need while eating the same amount of walnuts only gives you approximately 2.3 grams. Eating soybeans, navy beans, or kidney beans will get you somewhere between 0.2 and 1.0 grams of omega 3. Eating 4 ounce of tofu gives you 0.4 grams of omega 3 .

Olive oil and winter squash are some other sources of omega 3. When eating a salad, using extra virgin olive oil with a splash of lemon can replace your salad dressing and give you the bonus of omega 3 plus less bad fat . You should never fry in olive oil, as frying destroys all its beneficial properties.

Eating and staying healthy at the same time seems quite difficult at times. We tend to give up, when we read about the do's and don'ts in order to stay healthy. Changes are good, but no one wants to give up the favorites. Just try and change things a little at a time but never give up what you really love. You can add beans to your salads or meals, if you like vegetable soup, you can add some flax seeds to it. I bet you wouldn't even notice them. Switching to extra virgin olive oil spray or liquid is another way to sneak it into your foods and make it healthier.

Then there are always the supplements. Taking a supplement ensures that you are getting a proper dosage of omega 3 in your diet.

It's time to take notice of the omega 3 revelation. We all want to live a healthy long life. This could be the way to do it.

--
Come visit www.weight-loss-for.us for more information on Omega 3 Benefits

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

There is quite a list of foods to avoid when trying to minimize acid reflux. After learning what foods trigger your acid reflux it make sit easier to limit the occurrence of your acid reflux. Then you can create an acid reflux diet plan. This will focus on avoiding acid reflux trigger foods and contain foods that will benefit the body and stave off heartburn. These beneficial foods will improve your body's digestion as well as reduce the damage inflicted on the body by the acid from the stomach.

Protein-Protein is helpful to acid reflux because it increases the pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter, making it less likely that acid reflux will occur. The more pressure exerted on the LES the less chance that it will relax allowing food to come back up into the esophagus. Lean protein is better for acid reflux sufferers because the more fat content can increase the potential for heartburn symptoms. Good sources of protein include lean animal meat, and protein powder or supplements.

Poultry- Poultry is a good source of protein because it usually is leaner than red meat. However you will want to remove the skin before consuming it because the skin is higher in fat. Broiling, baking or grilling is a good way to cook poultry but stay away from frying it.

Seafood- Shrimp, lobster, shellfish and wild fish are all great sources of seafood that should be included in an acid reflux diet. Seafood is low in fat but rich in essential omegas, and fatty acids that the body requires. Never fry seafood, which will increase the fat content, which increases the likelihood of heartburn.

Fiber-A high fiber diet not only helps with digestion but also is less stressful to the esophagus. The less stress you put on your LES the more likely it will close tightly after eating therefore avoiding heartburn symptoms. Some good sources of fiber include whole grains, non-starchy vegetables and fruits.

Couscous- Couscous is made of semolina wheat, making it a great source of fiber and complex carbohydrate. This enhances digestion making it a great food for acid reflux sufferers.

Papaya- Papaya contains papain which is an enzyme that helps to digest protein. It reduces acid in the stomach that can rise up into the esophagus and cause acid reflux.

Pineapple- Pineapple is rich in bromelain another digestive enzyme that aids in digestion. It like papain it helps to reduce the acid that rises up and causes heartburn symptoms.

Bananas-Bananas are a good fruit to eat if you have acid reflux because it has a lower pH than most fruits. It is very close to being a neutral on the acidity scale that's why it is beneficial in an acid reflux diet. In about 1% of sufferers bananas can worsen acid reflux symptoms.

Melon- Melons should also be included in the acid reflux sufferers arsenal. Melons, like bananas are neutral in terms of acidity, which helps to reduce acid reflux. Include honeydew, watermelon and cantaloupe in your acid reflux diet. For a small percentage of people melon can worsen acid reflux symptoms.

Greens- Green and root vegetables are rich sources of fiber, which regulate the digestive system and help to reduce symptoms of acid reflux. Cruciferous vegetables should be a staple part of any acid reflux diet. Cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, green beans, etc. should all be eaten to aid in your digestion and reduce acid reflux.

Celery- Celery has almost no calories due to its high water content. It is a great appetite suppressant and an excellent source of roughage. This is why it should be included in your acid reflux diet.

Fennel- Fennel is a crunchy vegetable that improves stomach function. It has neutral acidity therefore decreasing acid reflux symptoms.

Parsley- Parsley has been used as a medicinal herb that settles stomach and aids in digestion. It can be used in many dishes as a seasoning or garnish and should be included in your acid reflux diet.

Ginger- Ginger should be eaten in moderation by acid reflux sufferers. It is an anti-inflammatory, which can treat gastrointestinal conditions therefore it, helps to aid in acid reflux disorder.

--
Sarah Labdar graduated with a BA in exercise science and has worked in the medical field since.
Many things cause acid reflux, but most of the time it's the foods we eat. Certain foods aggravate acid reflux symptoms, making them the cause of your acid reflux. Its best to limit these foods, some foods that are responsible for a higher occurrence of heartburn should be avoided completely. Not everyone that experiences acid reflux will be affected by foods that they should avoid. Others may even experience acid reflux with foods that should be okay. Everyone's case of acid reflux is different, therefore the most important thing to do is find out what is triggering your heartburn.
More than 20% of Americans experience some form of acid reflux two or more times a week. Although not everyone's cause is going to be the same, for many it's caused by what they are putting in their mouth. Food plays a vital role in supplying the body with essential nutrients and energy. However overtime the quality of our food has started to decline. With all the chemical additives, preservatives, food coloring, flavors, excessive sugar and sodium it's no wonder our body rebels against us. The ingredients in the food we eat can cause the condition known as acid reflux. If you experience acid reflux also known as heartburn more than two times a week then its time to figure out what's causing it. The fastest way to fine out what's causing your symptoms is to keep a food diary. To do this you write down everything you eat throughout the day, no matter how small or big of a portion. Then notate the days you experience acid reflux and at what time so you can coincide it with the food you ate. There may be several foods in your food diary that cause your acid reflux symptoms.
Foods cause acid reflux for two reasons, the lower esophageal sphincter LES relaxes when it shouldn't or your stomach produces too much acid. Separate types of foods cause each of these situations. When the LES relaxes it allows food and stomach acid to rise back up into the esophagus causing feelings of heartburn. Normally, w hen you eat the LES snaps shut once food passes through the esophagus into the stomach. However due to certain foods the Les relaxes after food passes through making it more likely that food and stomach acid will rise back up into the esophagus causing heartburn symptoms. Foods that relax the LES include fried or greasy foods, high fat meats, butter, margarine, mayonnaise, creamy sauces, salad dressing, whole milk dairy products, chocolate, peppermint, or caffeinated beverages such as soda, coffee, tea, or cocoa.
When we eat our stomach produces acid to breakdown food into essential nutrient and deliver them throughout the body. The stomach regulates how much acid is produced however some foods stimulate an overproduction of acid. When this occurs excess acid can rise up into the esophagus, causing feeling of heartburn. Foods that stimulate high acid production include caffeinated beverages, carbonated beverages, alcohol, spicy foods, citrus fruit, juices, and tomato based food products.

--
Sarah Labdar graduated with a BA in exercise science and has worked in the medical field since.
How we wish we had known the importance of omega 3 to our over all health and well being. Many of us would not have been suffering from many of the ailments we are today. Most of the people suffering from chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and types of arthritis may not be suffering had they taken omega 3. The older people suffering with memory loss, vision problems and heart problems would have been healthier. We may not see cases of eczema, depression, or mood swings. Children may be doing better in school with having less behavioral problems.

It's not very late to start getting omega 3. If you are a child, teenager, young adult, mid age adult or older, it's never too late to start doing something that will help your over all being. You may even be able to reverse some of the problems you may have been afflicted with and feel healthier.

Omega 3 is one of the essential fatty acids. It is due to the fact that our body cannot produce omega 3 on its own. That means we have to find a source to get it from. One of the best sources to obtain omega 3 is fish, which include salmon, tuna, mackerel and halibut. Other ways of getting omega 3 without eating fish or taking fish oil are: English walnuts, algae, nut oils, flax seed, sunflower seeds, and canola oil.

It has been noted that the people who eat a Mediterranean diet tend to have a healthier heart. This diet helps them to maintain better levels of cholesterol and triglycerides which leads to better heart health. This also helps prevent blood clots and strokes. Fish is the main constituent of Mediterranean diet. I know many people are vegetarian, and do not eat fish, but getting omega 3 other ways is also possible. Many options have been highlighted in the above paragraphs . If you cannot eat the sources of omega 3 in the natural form due to the bad taste or whatever, you can try out the tablets or capsules available at your neighbourhood pharmacy or health food store. These days you can even find it at your super market.

Just imagine that asthma, macular degeneration, colon cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, along with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, mental illness, that could have been avoided, had the people eaten fish or taken omega 3.

This really needs to become a wide spread subject. If doctors started prescribing it along with the daily vitamins, a lot of people could be prevented from suffering retired life with an illness. My doctor surely endorses the benefits of omega 3. He didn't mention it until I told him I take flax seed oil. He agrees it's a good thing. Just told me to also include more vitamin D.

Do consult your doctor. Maybe some are just allowed to promote the pills and prescriptions. They extoll the benefits of omega 3 only when talked to. Get your doctor's opinion. It's time for you to get on the way to better health. You owe it to yourself to enjoy your retirement. Don't just let yourself sit and watch life pass you by.

--
Come visit www.weight-loss-for.us for more information on Omega 3 Benefits

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

As more and more people are getting educated about the health, the need for sources of omega 3 is growing. Many don't want to take the omega 3 made from fish oil due to the toxic metals that could be packaged into the oil. They even avoid eating cold water oily fish due to the fear of ingesting mercury. Getting omega 3 in your diet is very important in healing and prevention of diseases.

There are a number of ways to get omega 3 apart from fish. Flax seed, English walnuts, canola oil, sunflower seeds, and some plants. If you can eat fish, eating tuna, halibut, salmon, or mackerel twice a week should give you enough omega 3.

Another very good source I just came to know of is the "Savi Seeds". They taste and smell like a nut but are seeds in fact. News has it that they are the richest source you can find of the omega 3 fatty acids in the world. Only one ounce of the savi seeds can provide you 7000mg of omega 3 fatty acids. That is more than what you can get from one ounce of salmon . Savi seeds also provide 8 grams of protein per ounce. That is more than other nuts or seeds give you.

The Savi Seeds are found in Peru. They are the fruit part of the sacha inchi plant. The plant starts producing it's seeds around the 18th month of growth. The fruit of the plant is shaped like a star with brownish seeds. The seeds are pretty large and found near the edges of the star shape. You can eat these seeds which provide you with the wonderful benefits of omega 3 and protein. It is possible that these seeds have been used by the Inca people for over 3000 years. The plant continues to grow the fruit and has a life span of over 10 years.

The seeds have been used by the people in the Amazon in soups, sauces and different ways. The oil and cooked seeds are very desired items in Peru. A cream made from the seeds is popularly used for moisturizing the skin. In order to eat the seeds, you do not have to crush them or break them open. Just pop it in your mouth as a delicious snack.

The seeds not only contain omega 3, they also contain omega 6 and omega 9 in appropriately balanced amounts. You don't want to have too much omega 6 in your diet but omega 3. Our diets are usually rich in omega 6, the savi seed can help you to maintain a balance between the two omegas.

A one ounce serving of flax seeds contain 6400 mg of omega 3, not as much as the savi seeds. Both of them are very good sources of omega 3. We all require more omega 3 into our diets to help reduce inflammation of joints, maintain a healthy heart, reduce our cholesterol, improve our brain health and memory, and possibly prevent types of cancer.

We are all seeing that we need to increase the omega 3 and are looking for ways to do that. There are many choices out there, and now we have found one more.

Why not start today to a better healthier you.

--
Come visit www.weight-loss-for.us for more information on Omega 3 Benefits

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Oxidation and Free Radicals
Oxidation occurs naturally to our bodies for various reasons including pollution, poor diet, and aging, amongst other things. As oxidation persists, it creates an excess of free radicals in our bodies which cause damage to our bodies proteins, cells, and genes. Free radicals float around our bodies trying to replace missing electrons which causes oxidation. Studies show oxidation to be the root cause of many diseases including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, macular degeneration and alzheimers. Researchers believe oxidation also plays a major role in the aging process.

What are Antioxidants?
Simply put the word antioxidant means anti (against) - oxidation. Antioxidants are a group of natural chemicals that our bodies need to help fight against oxidation. Antioxidants help destroy free radicals caused by oxidation and prevent them from causing damage to our bodies. Antioxidants are composed of thousands of natural chemicals found in foods. Antioxidants include vitamin A, C, E, beta carotene, flavonoids, phenols and anthocyanins. Research shows these natural antioxidants to be highly beneficial to our bodies.

ORAC Chart
Oxygen radical absorbance capacity or ORAC measures water soluble antioxidant levels in foods and their ability to absorb free radicals. The higher the ORAC levels of a food, the greater the amount of antioxidants present, thus the greater chance of destroying free radicals and potential diseases that may affect the body. Foods that scores above 40 are considered to be extremely high. Berries with dark or red pigments tend to score the highest on the ORAC chart.

Health Benefits of Antioxidants in Berries
Studies show consuming a regular diet high in antioxidants will help prevent numerous diseases including heart disease, macular degeneration, stroke, alzheimers, cancer, diabetes and more. In particular, research shows Anthocyanins provide many benefits to humans including cardiovascular health, memory retention, improved vision and reduced risk of hypertension. A study conducted by Gary Stoner Ph.D., of the University of Ohio shows just how powerful berries are in their cancer fighting abilities. During the study two groups of rats were injected with high levels of cancer-causing agents, one group was left alone and the other was fed a diet rich in Antioxidants from berries, specifically black raspberries. The results were overwhelming with 60%-80% fewer malignant, cancer causing tumors found in the rats fed an antioxidant rich, berry filled diet. Bottom line, keep berries in your daily diet.

Great Sources of Antioxidants
Many foods are great sources of antioxidants including fruits and vegetables. Some of the best sources are found in berries, especially wild berries. Berries of dark color or reddish color tend to have the best sources of antioxidants. Although blueberries are known for being antioxidant rich, many other berries have significant greater amounts of antioxidants in them. Some of the most antioxidant rich berries on the planet include wild huckleberries, wild blueberries, black currants, black raspberries and lingonberries. Lingonberries actually have more antioxidants than any other berry in the world, including the acai berry. Lingonberries can be found online at Northwest Wild Foods

Sources:
Holloway, Patricia, Roxie Dinstel and Roseann Leiner.
