Below are some behavioral interview techniques that you'll find useful:

Be prepared for the interview by analyzing and making an educated guess as to which skills are most desired by the employer. You can study the job description of the position or go to some job boards to review requirement sections of related jobs.
Compile a list of skills that are relevant to the position you are applying.
Identify behavioral interview questions by introductory phases like "Tell me about a time when...," " Describe a situation where you...," "Give me an example of..." etc.
Listen carefully to each question. If necessary, rephrase the question and ask for clarification.
Use STAR formula to answer behavioral interview question. STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action and Result. Make sure that your answers are detailed and specific. This behavioral interview technique is widely recommended by career advisors.
Use your real-life examples instead of your opinions or theoretical statements. The employers want to know what you have done in the past, not what you think you would do in the future.
Vary the length of your answers. You can prepare short description of each situation but be ready to give details if asked. You can also determine if you have given enough information by asking questions like, "Would you like more details on that?" "Would you like another example?".
Be honest. It will be bad for you if the interviewer find out that your story is built on weak foundation.

--

The Roman Army

The Roman Army

By Kenneth J. McCormick

Webmaster

It is believed that Rome was founded in 753 BC. Plutarch the historian stated that Rome was actually founded by the survivors of Troy. "at the taking of Troy, some few that escaped and met with shipping, put to sea, and driven by winds, were carried upon the coasts of Tuscany, and came to anchor off the mouth of the river Tiber, where their women, out of heart and weary with the sea, on its being proposed by one of the highest birth and best understanding amongst them, whose name was Roma, burnt the ships. With which act the men at first were angry..."

In 509 there was a revolution where the Etruscans were overthrown and a republic established. When the Roman army was first established it was not the precise fighting machine that the Imperial Roman army was. Its battle tactics were mostly using the Greek Phalanx. The system for recruiting and arming the soldiers would be considered very strange by today's standards. The Romans were classified into five groups with the richest being the first group. It was better to be in the first group because you got full armor and the best weapons. The lesser the group you were in, the lesser the amount of armor and weapons until you reached the fifth group who had no armor and were only armed with slings. This was not a very good position to be in when you were in a battle. This army was not able to hold back the Gauls and in the fourth century BC Rome was sacked. This led to the entire reorganization of the army and its tactics.

The new army now employed battle lines three deep instead of the slow phalanx. The first line was manned by what used to be the second class of soldier, a solder with body armor, the traditional large rectangular shield and spears. He was backed up by what was formerly the first class soldier, the soldier who had the best armor and weapons. This group was known as the heavy infantry. New units were formed out of the old third, fourth and fifth class soldiers. Later the bronze helmets were abandoned and a new iron helmet was used as it better protected against larger swords. By the third century BC, the Roman army was one of the finest in all of the Mediterranean countries. It was composed of about 28 legions which each contained 5,000+ soldiers and additional cavalry. The total amount of cavalry in the entire Roman army was 3,000. Along with allied soldiers which added 30,000 more soldiers and 2,000 more cavalry. But this was not the end, Rome could call upon her allies for much more infantry and calvary. Quite an army for those times. A young Roman General, who took command of the Roman army in Spain began training his troopers in tactics. He worked the army very hard but it paid off when he beat the great tactician Hannibal. This method of training was adopted by many other commanders and improved the army immeasurably.

Weapons and armor began to improve in the second century BC. Chain mail was worn by some of the wealthier soldiers. A special short javelin was carried and it was made in such a way that if it were shoved into you, it would bend and you would not be able to removed it. Some of the organization of the ranks was changed. Gone were the iron helmets and back was a thicker bronze helmet. The gladius was issued to the soldiers, it was a short sword. In 153 BC the army draft was changed to a lottery system which made service six years. More and more soldiers came from the conquered territories. The Roman army had evolved into the finest army in the world. All their equipment had become uniform and it was the first the first army to do this. If a Roman soldier lost a piece of equipment in battle, he could pick up the exact same type from a deceased soldier on the field. This was very handy since this would be the equipment he had trained with.

The Roman army changed as time passed. As the Romans began breaking up the units to fill in for other units, the army got more and more disorganized. It was doing a lot of protection work on the boarders keeping the barbarians out. The army was shifting away from heavy infantry and leaning more to cavalry. A large central reserve of men was created. In 357 AD the Germans were defeated by the Romans still using Legions but in 378 AD the Goths attacked the Eastern Army with their cavalry and destroyed it. The very same Goths were now paid to become cavalry for the Romans and over 40,000 of them served the Romans. Roman armor got lighter offering less protection but allowing for quicker movement. The infantry became second tot he cavalry. As time passed the German states became more and more powerful until their armies were able to overrun Rome in the fifth century. The Roman Empire in the east survived until 1203 AD

Copyright © 2004 by About Facts Net and its licensors.
Canine Distemper

Canine Distemper

By Ron Swerdfiger

www.web-rover.com

What is Canine Distemper?

Canine distemper is a highly contagios disease caused by a virus (paramyxovirus) which attacks the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervus systems of dogs. Although dogs are the most commonly affected, Canine Distemper is also seen in foxes, ferrets, mink and many other carnivores. These infected animals are often the cause of the spread of this disease to domesticated dogs.

At normal temperature the virus can remain active in infected tissue for several weeks, provided the infected source does not dry out, or become exposed to ultraviolet radiation (sun light). At below zero, the virus can remain active for several months. At temperatures of 32°C or greater, the Canine Distemper virus will be destroyed very quickly.

How can the Virus spread?

Canine Distemper is spread through bodily secretions (nasal fluid for example} The most common form of transmission is airborne. Dogs become infected by breathing in particles secreted by infected hosts. For several weeks after recovery, a dog will still carry the virus which can lead to further contamination if not properly quarantined.

What are the symptoms?

Upon contracting the virus, dogs often appear “normal” for several days. The initial symptoms of the disease are runny nose, water eyes and a sore throat. The dogs temperature will increase to approximately 103.5°F (39.7°C). Over the next couple of days the symptoms worsen with the tonsils becoming enlarged, and the dog developing diarrhea. After approximately four weeks of treatment the virus begins to affect the brain. The dog will start twitching which will gradually turn in to larger convulsions The convulsions normally become so frequent and violent, that euthanasia is often carried out at this stage.

Are all dogs at risk?

Yes. Puppies younger than 4 months of age, and dogs who have not received vaccination, are at the greatest risk of infection. However, all dogs are susceptible to the virus. Canine Distemper was at one time the leading cause of deaths in domesticated dogs. Due to understanding of the virus and the ability to treat secondary symptoms, Canine Distemper only become a concern in isolated outbreaks.

What is the treatment for Canine Distemper?

At this time, there is no cure for the actual virus which causes Canine Distemper.. Treatment mainly consists of controlling spread and severity of secondary ailments such as , vomiting, diarrhea and fluid discharge. In the later stages of canine distemper, the use of anti-consultant drugs may help to control twitches and spasms. Constant nursing care is needed to make the dog as comfortable as possible.

Is there anyway to prevent canine distemper?

Have your dog vaccinated!!! Pups should be vaccinated at 6 weeks of age, and re-vaccinated every 3-4 weeks until 16 months old. Adult dogs should be vaccinated every year. Like most disease, prevention is often the only viable solution. Be cautions of where you are taking your dog. Since the most common transmission of Canine Distemper is air born, dog parks, kennels, even grooming facilities can be ideal places for dogs to contract the virus. Raccoons, skunks, foxes, and other carnivores are often the catalysts for outbreak. For this reason ALWAYS be cautions of wild animals. Never let your dog have contact with an unknown animal.

Ths website only provides BASIC information about canine distemper, your veterinarian is always your best source of health information. Consult your veterinarian for more information about Canine Distemper and its prevention.

--

Federal PLUS Loans

Federal PLUS Loans
As a student entering college, it is very unlikely that you have a few spare checks lying around that you can cash and magically use to pay for college. Most college-aged students, ranging from late teens through mid-twenties, have no line of credit and cannot receive much money in loans if they need to do so in order to attend college. Therefore, a loan like the federal PLUS loan through the federal government and U.S. Department of Education makes it easy for you, as a potential college student, to use your parents’ line of credit in order to gain financing options for your higher education.

How Your Parents Can Help You Apply
If your parents have good credit and you obtain them a copy of the Direct PLUS loan application, you are well on your way to cracking the college books and arriving on campus in the fall. Keep in mind that in order to receive a federal PLUS loan, you must be a dependent potential undergraduate at any college or university in the U.S. You also must be planning on attending college for at least half-time during the upcoming semester. If these all apply to you, obtain a Direct PLUS loan application and promissory note, fill them out with signatures completed, and hand them in to the financial aid office at your college or university.

Fill Out A FAFSA Form First!
Have you tried filling out your FAFSA form yet? If not, you may already be entitled to financial aid and/or loans and scholarships that could benefit you! While it is not required for you to fill out the FAFSA form to receive a federal PLUS loan, be aware that you could receive thousands of dollars without even having to use your parents’ credit in the first place. Still, if you are not eligible for any other scholarships, the federal PLUS loan will enable you to receive financing for any portion of your college or university bill not covered by other financial aid (i.e. If college costs you $5000 a year and you already receive $4000 in financial aid, a PLUS loan will lend you the other $1000). Federal PLUS loans can help put you through college, even if you do not have a solid line of credit yet.

This article is distributed by NextStudent. At NextStudent, we believe that getting an education is the best investment you can make, and we're dedicated to helping you pursue your education dreams by making college funding as easy as possible. We invite you to learn more about how to get Federal Plus Loans at www.NextStudent.com .

--

Tooling Leather

Tooling Leather / Art Work

Use vegetable-tanned, light-colored top-grained leather for tooling leather. If you’re not sure what you have, test the leather’s ability to take a pattern by wetting a corner and making lines with different objects like the edge of a coin.

When working with a large piece of tooling leather, tape or glue something to the back to prevent the leather from stretching when you are working on it.

The first step involves cutting a design into the leather, followed by creating depressions with various tools that result in elements of the design presenting a raised surface.

Tooling leather is done before it is painted or dyed. If the leather becomes dry while you are working on it, moisten with a damp sponge. If you’re not able to complete your project in one sitting, store the leather in an appropriately-sized Ziploc bag and place it in the refrigerator.

Choosing and Tracing a Design

Choose a design and trace it onto tracing film or wax paper with a pencil. You can get tracing film in most hobby stores. Search the internet and leatherworking books for ideas on tooling leather.

Other sources include wood burning and stamp making catalogues, coloring books, seed catalogues (for floral designs) and magazines like National Geographic. Copy and paste this url into your borwser and check out this great site for tooling leather patterns: leathersecrets.com/craft/carving.html

Start with something simple if you are just beginning tooling leather, and work up to more complex designs as you gain experience. Paper palette, available at craft stores, consists of paper on one side and a sort of plastic film on the other side. It can be trimmed to fit in your printer.

Once you find the design on the internet, simply print it off. The plastic side will protect the design from getting wet when you place it on the damp leather.

Transferring the Pattern

Begin by dampening the leather on both sides with a sponge, or by holding the piece under running water or dipping it in water. Try to avoid soaking the leather, as it becomes too soft to work with. Then place the tracing film on the right side of the leather, using tape at the back of the leather to hold it in place.

Using the tip of a ballpoint pen from which the ink cartridge has been removed, trace over the pattern, following the lines, pressing firmly. Instead of a ballpoint pen, you can purchase a special tool called a ballpoint stylus that is specially designed to transfer patterns for tooling leather. Once you remove the film, you can see the design on the leather’s surface. If you’ve made any mistakes, you can smooth them out using the back of a spoon.

Using a Swivel Knife

Taking a swivel knife, trace over the outline, holding the knife with your index finger resting on the u-shaped section at the top of the handle, while holding the body of the knife between your thumb and your middle finger. The knife should be turned by rotating the body between your thumb and the middle and ring fingers.

The knife is held upright at a 90 degree angle to the leather, cutting with the corner of the knife facing you. Don’t do multiple cuts over the line and make the cut light enough to just penetrate the grain, about half the thickness of the hide.

Creating Texture and Depressions

Use a firm surface such as marble for the next phase, where texture and depressions are created in the leather using a wooden, PVC or rawhide mallet, a beveller, a pear shader and a camouflage tool.

Bevellers come in different sizes. Start with three: a small, medium and pointy one. This will give you plenty of versatility when tooling leather.

Position the deep part of the beveller into the groove you have made, and the shallow part towards the side you want to push down or depress. Strike the beveller with the mallet. Use the beveller on the outside of the design to create the formation of ridges while giving a raised appearance.

By overlapping each stamping, you achieve a smooth and continuous effect. The pear shader is used to depress areas of the design, adding contour and depth. The camouflage tool works to add texture to the design and is excellent for such fine work as recreating the petals of a flower.

Get comfortable with your tools by practicing on scrap pieces of tooling leather. That way you’re less likely to make mistakes when you are working with the actual project.

--

Most people, when they first encounter the idea of home schooling, have one hundred and one questions. This article is intended to act as a reference point for people interested in the prospect of home schooling their children. The first question many parents ask is “Why would we want to school our children at home?”

There are a number of benefits to home schooling your children. Home schooling yields positive academic, social, emotional, and spiritual benefits for any family that is willing and prepared to give it a chance. Study after study has shown that children that are home schooled outrank their public and private schooled peers in every academic area. Child safety has been cited by many parents as a motivation for home schooling.

With the prevalence of guns and violence in schools, this should come as no surprise. There is also the benefit of reducing your child’s exposure to peer pressure regarding drugs, alcohol, and sexual activity. A cursory glance at the statistics of teenage alcohol/drug abuse, pregnancy, and sexually transmitted disease is enough to scare any thinking parent into considering what actions they can take in order to insulate their children from such dangers.

In the case of children with special needs, parents can rest assured that their children are receiving the attention they need and deserve. Home schooling also goes a long way in bringing families closer together, as children really tend to thrive under parental attention. It has been said that a family that learns together, grows together!

Home schooling also has the added benefit of allowing parents to truly know and understand their children. With regards to spiritual teachings, home schooling offers parents the opportunity to teach and guide their children by the principles of their faith. The idea of home schooling one’s children has literally exploded in recent times.

With some of the reasons cited above, it is easy to see why. There are plenty of resources available for parents and students alike, and a quick internet search of the topic will yield you a wealth of information.

Your local library or bookstore will likely have information, as well. Many communities even have local support groups for parents of home schooled children. Why home schooling? Why not??

--

It's back to school time.... Do you have everything you need to start the year off right? Confidence is key to success!

For those first time jitters, help welcome your pre-school and kinder students with a walk to the door and a quick goodbye. As you give your child a firm hug and kisses, remind them to have a fun day and that you will be back to pick them up before they know it. This will leave them with the confidence they need to know they are loved and safe.
Quick good-byes are always best even though they can be painful to let go of your little one. Rest assured your little one is going to be well cared for throughout the day. Your confidence in your child's school and teacher will help give your child the confidence he/she needs to say goodbye easier. Remember children learn what they see. So if you are nervous and hesitant to let go, your child will be too.

For older children, going back to school is usually filled with the wonder and excitement of sharing summer stories and seeing who is in their class this year. Elementary students through high school students usually greet the new school year with anticipation of all the new things they will get, new clothes, new books, new back packs and most importantly making new friends. While making new friends can be exciting it is not always easy for all children to warm up to new people especially if they are in a new school. Your encouragement and support will go a long way in reminding them that they are likeable and they have a lot of good qualities that will make others want to know them. If your shy child finds going to school the worst nightmare in the world, try and discuss this with your child's teacher ahead of time and come up with ways to smooth the transition back to school.

Remember, all children have fears and anxieties about the first days or months of school, your support is needed now to guide them to succeed with confidence.

Have a safe and fun school year!

--

Pre Algebra

Pre algebra is the subject you need to understand before moving on to learn algebra. In other terms, you can say that pre algebra is the perfect platform from where you can move on to algebra. However, we will talk about pre algebra as a separate entity here. Let us have a look at the key topics of pre algebra you must know:

Negative numbers
Learn basic facts of adding, subtracting or multiplying negative numbers. For example, always remember:
• If both numbers have the same sign, the product is positive.
• If the numbers have different signs, the product is negative.

Adding odd and even numbers
Here, just remember:
• Even Number + Even Number = Even Number.
• Odd Number + Odd Number = Even Number.
• Even Number + Odd Number = Odd Number

Decimal numbers
While adding or subtracting decimal numbers, always place the numbers so that the decimal points are vertically aligned.
For example, 6.231 + 0.044 = 6.275.

While multiplying decimal numbers, multiply like you multiply whole numbers. Then add the decimal places in both numbers to find the position of the decimal point in the product.

While dividing, move the decimal point in the divisor to the right as necessary to make the divisor a whole number. Then the decimal point in the dividend is moved to the right the same number of places. The decimal point in the answer is placed just above the decimal point in the dividend. These facts are vital in pre algebra.

Square Root
To learn square roots, remember the following formulas:
• Every positive real number n has two square roots
• Product Property: For all positive real numbers a and b,
• Quotient Property: For all positive real numbers a and b,

Reducing to lowest factors
Divide the top and the bottom by the same prime numbers until no more common prime number can be found.

e.g, 24/36 =4/6=2/3

Converting mixed number to improper fraction
In this, remember the following formula:

Converting improper fraction to mixed number
Divide the denominator into the numerator. The whole part of the answer is the whole part of the mixed number. The remainder will be the numerator of the fraction of the mixed number.

Finally, just learn these topics and practice them as much as possible. With time you will surely master pre algebra, which will lay a good foundation for your algebra classes.

--

Bartending School

Finding a Bartending School will be the first step towards a rewarding career! Bartenders at popular nightclubs can make as much as $500 per shift - which can add up to more then enough for the rent by just working a few nights a week!

Lots of people think they’ll go to Bartending School and get a job pouring drinks - easy work, right? But if you’ve ever watched a bartender hustle around, you should know bartending isn’t easy money. But being with the crowds, listening to the lastest music, and meeting people make it worthwhile for most people who choose to attend Bartending School.

When looking for a bartending school, it can help to choose one with job placement assistance. Also look for abartending school that has been in business for a while - you don’t want to go to some fly-by-night operation.

Bartending is about more than just pouring drinks - although you’ll have to know the difference between a Mai-tai and a Lynchburg Lemonade (and you’ll learn that at bartending school). Bartending is about personality - making people feel welcome, providing fast, friendly service, and even being the life of the party! As you become more comfortable performing behind the bar, you’ll watch your tips grow!

--
