Be sure to see your doctor before you begin your new exercise program, especially if you have not been active in a long time.

Start small

Begin your exercise regime slowly. Jumping in too fast can lead to injury which will definitely decrease your desire to stick with it. Do not expect too much too fast. Start out with small goals that you can measure.

Choose a small amount of time each day such as 10 minutes and schedule it into your daily routine. Do not let exercise to be the thing that gets cut out of your schedule when you get busier. Think of it as a regular part of your daily duties such as brushing your hair or flossing your teeth.

Before you begin, remember to do some warm-up exercises. Warming up prepares your muscles for the exercise and helps to prevent injury. Do about 5 to 10 minutes of jumping jacks or a slow jog. If at any time during your exercise you begin to feel pain, just stop. If you keep going it could lead to injury. Drink plenty of water before you start and have an extra glass if it's a hot day. Don't exercise on an empty stomach especially if you do your routine first thing in the morning.

Make it enjoyable

The most important thing you can do when starting an exercise regime is to choose something that you enjoy. If you have always wanted to learn to dance, sign up for dance lessons. Take a beginner aerobics course at a gym or join a tennis league. Aim for about 30 minutes of physical activity per day.

One of the best exercises for the beginner is walking. You can easily adjust the intensity and length of your workout, and increase both as you become more fit. It can be done at any time that best fits into your day. Studies have shown that walking can combat health problems such as diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Exercising can be especially valuable for women in combating bone loss which comes with age. As women get older they begin to lose about 1% of their bone mass per year. Following menopause it increases to 3% per year. Weight bearing exercise stimulates the bone to make new bone cells.

To enjoy the health benefits of exercise you have to make it part of your daily routine. Start by doing something you enjoy or even began with walking. Schedule exercise into your daily routine and do a little each day. Before you know it you will be healthier than ever before!

Engagements: Being Prepared for a Huge Commitment http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/engagements-being-prepared-for-a-huge-commitment.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/engagements-being-prepared-for-a-huge-commitment.html Sat, 15 Sep 2007 00:00:00 -0500
The first thing you should do after you get engaged is to set a date for the wedding that will undoubtedly occur in the future. Once you have an actual time frame determined, you will feel much better about everything. You will have an actual date to look forward to, and plenty of time to plan for it. After you have the date of the wedding set, you can begin to plan all of the smaller details. You may find that one of your mothers is into planning all of it, which will certainly take a load off of your shoulders. Mothers enjoy planning things, and a wedding is no different. So let her go to town, and just have everything run by you before it is decided for sure.

You also need to make invitations to your wedding, and send them out to everyone you can possibly think of who would like to attend it. Usually you will hire the services of a fancy printer in order to get all of the invitations made, and you may want to also hire a graphic designer to make an attractive template that you can base all of your invitations off of.

Overall, you will be dealing with literally hundreds of different things between proposing and getting married. It is best if you plan it all out very well, and simply take on one thing at a time. When you have everything planned out and you know when you will take care of things, this gives you a definite edge when planning a wedding. So just take it one step at a time, and don’t get overwhelmed by the amount of things that you have to consider.

Getting Your Ex Girlfriend Back http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/getting-your-ex-girlfriend-back_1.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/getting-your-ex-girlfriend-back_1.html Fri, 27 Mar 2009 16:29:13 -0500
nMaybe some mistakes were made and now you want a second chance. But what can you do? Does it seem like the more you try to fix things the farther away she seems to get? Are you constantly wondering where she is and what she's doing? This feeling of being powerless sucks. Unfortunately, you're probably going about this entirely the wrong way. Fortunately, by understanding human nature and learning exactly what to do and say, you can greatly increase the odds of getting your ex girlfriend back.
nIf you're like most guys you probably are used to being able to fix things by trying harder. But in this situation, that's exactly what you want to avoid. The more you "try", the more she pulls back... it's a natural reaction. You must force yourself to chill and stop coming across as needy. If a woman senses that you're desperate she naturally becomes unattracted to you.
nLet me give you an example: Years ago I found myself on the receiving end of being dumped. At first I tried everything to get her back... letters, phone calls, trying to "convince" her things would be different... you know, pretty pathetic stuff. I was getting nowhere fast.
nThen I did the opposite. I broke off all contact and started focusing on my own life. I developed an attitude of detachment. Yep, it worked like a charm. My sudden lack of interest got her interested again and she started contacting me. By showing my independence I became attractive to her again. She no longer saw me as a clinging, desperate ex who was smothering her. Instead, she saw me as a strong and independent man who was doing fine without her.
nThis simple strategy is powerful and works almost every time. And you know what else? It feels great! It's a great feeling to have your personal power back. It may sound manipulative, but in reality all you're doing is shifting the energy so you are no longer the one chasing. Now you can come together as equals... which is the way it should be.

Coordinate Hangers http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/coordinate-hangers.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/coordinate-hangers.html Fri, 11 Apr 2008 00:00:00 -0500
Coordinate hangers are available in many different styles. The highest quality coordinate hangers have wooden shoulder supports with metal hooks and clasps. The wooden hanger offers a smooth, wide base for hanging clothes without stretching out or damaging delicate fabrics. Most have notches cut out for small spaghetti straps and hanging ribbons. The bottom section of the wooden hanger is usually a metal bar with special clasps for hanging skirts, shorts and pants. Choose an arch that fits the types of clothes that you want to hang. Men’s suits need a wider shoulder while women’s and children’s hangers can be smaller.

Coordinate hangers are also available in plastic. Check to see that the plastic is strong enough to support the weight of the clothes. Also consider if plastic is durable enough to withstand the abuse of a child if you plan to use them in a kid’s closet. Acrylic hangers are also available. If you are looking for children’s hangers, check out the decorative plastic hangers that are on the market today. They come in many different styles, colors and designs. Children’s hangers are less likely to stretch and tear kid’s clothes than standard hangers.

Coordinate hangers can literally double the space in your closet, saving you space and time. Slim-Line hangers fit closely together and are very durable. If you are looking to really maximize space then you might consider these types of hangers. They are available in many colors. You can get a different color or colors for each person in your home. You will simplify hanging and sorting laundry as well as beautify your closet space.

Similar to the coordinate hanger is the skirt hanger and slacks hangers. These hangers allow you to hang multiple items on one hook creating even more space. They hang flat against each other. The slacks hanger and skirt hanger make more space in your closet than any other item. They are a great example of how to manage your wardrobe and space constraints with very little investment.

No matter what type of hanger you choose, you are sure to save time and space with the coordinate hanger. Mix-matched bargain basement hangers that bend, break and bunch are a thing of the past. Upgrade your clothes hangers today.

'Bubble Woman' Loses Safe-Zone: No Permit, No Bubble! http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/bubble-woman-loses-safe-zone-no-permit-no-bubble.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/bubble-woman-loses-safe-zone-no-permit-no-bubble.html Wed, 22 Oct 2008 00:00:00 -0500
Elizabeth Feudale-Bowes, 52, is extremely sensitive to chemicals, allergens and other everyday substances. As a result she suffers from migraines, joint pain, bladder inflammation, seizures and even temporary paralysis.

So her husband built her a safe-zone structure in their backyard—what the couple lovingly refers to as their “bubble”.

But yesterday, the county court ordered the couple to dismantle the unsightly shelter that was built without a permit and does not conform to building regulations.

Feudale-Bowes maintains that the chemicals and substances in the air make her so violently ill, that without the bubble, where she spends 10 hours a day, she is unable to function.

The county and the couple’s neighbors want the structure down by the end of the month. The couple is threatening to sue the township under the federal Americans with Disabilities Act.

This story is controversial and is making headlines. But the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Experts at AllerAir say they hear stories just like this one on a regular basis.

“We receive phone calls on a weekly basis from people just like Elizabeth Feudale-Bowes, who are desperate, and as a result take some pretty desperate measures,” said Karen Hand, chemical engineer and IAQ Expert at AllerAir. “Their illness is often viewed by society and the medical community as psychological, and support is often lacking.”

Hand says that people suffering with Environmental Illness (EI) and similar chronic conditions such as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) often turn to air purifiers to help them create a safe-zone, like the one that Feudale-Bowes’ husband made for her in their backyard.

“Being outfitted with the wrong air purifier is often worse than not having one at all,” warns Hand. “Only an air purifier with pounds of activated carbon can help adsorb dangerous airborne chemicals—but what many air purifier companies don’t know, or don’t say, is that EI and MCS sufferers can be sensitive to the carbon blend itself.”

Hand says choosing the right blend of carbon is key to finding the right air purifier. She recommends the AirMedic MCS designed with EcoFlowä Technology, which comes standard with a test kit. “The client is given the test kit with different blends of carbon and is able to then choose the type of carbon that best suits their chemical sensitivities. This greatly limits a negative reaction to the unit itself.”

Hand also says that EI and MCS sufferers must stay away from air purifiers designed with plastics. These units, she says, have dangerous off gassing that can be detrimental to EI and MCS sufferers.

“Air purifiers aren’t a one-size-fits-all solution,” said Hand. “A HEPA air filter is not designed to remove chemicals, so it’s another perfect example of an air purifier that won’t work for this purpose.”

Hand suggests that people who have serious sensitivities and extreme IAQ problems speak to an air purifier professional, and not just pick up a random unit at the hardware store. “This move can often make a bad situation worse, and lead to circumstances like the one with Elizabeth Feudale-Bowes, where desperate measures are taken in desperate situations.”

Old and horny http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/old-and-horny.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/old-and-horny.html Mon, 09 Jul 2007 00:00:00 -0500
He claims that older women are just as passionate as younger ones. They just have to be awakened from a deep sleep. Since most of them are widows they have not had a man in their bedroom since their husband passed away. Now that they have been awakened they are constantly calling the maintenance department for service, but he is very busy and can’t handle all the calls. He has had to hire two helpers who respond to the low tippers, and he has kept the more generous women for himself.

It is a myth that women past the age of fifty lose their sexual drive, they only have lost the chance to be with a passionate and capable lover. They look as if they have gone to sleep, but when they are awakened by the right guy, they become a dynamo of sexual energy. Since they are not afraid of becoming pregnant, and are not inhibited, they become a great sexual companion.

It takes a young man to awaken our sleeping beauty, only they have the sexual intensity that is required. A young man can spend the whole evening making love, and that might be required by a woman that has been asleep for many years. Once she is awakened she will fall madly in love with the prince that pulled her out of that deep sleep. They can become the ideal couple if the young man feels the same way.

Young lovers are available for older women, but they are hard to find. The quickest way to get one would be by advertising. An ad placed in the local newspaper asking for a male room-mate in exchange for light house keeping is sure to get you many replies. Be honest with the men that reply and I am sure you will have a lover in your bedroom, enjoy him, you deserve to be happy.

Great Reasons To Rent A Mobility Scooter http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/great-reasons-to-rent-a-mobility-scooter.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/great-reasons-to-rent-a-mobility-scooter.html Mon, 27 Apr 2009 15:23:55 -0500
Many of the people that utilise these power wheel chairs will need them for extended periods of time because their condition is deteriorating or they are paralyzed. Some other individuals are only injured for a certain time and might not require it longer then a couple of months or a year. Because of this they are reluctant to purchase one.

It is right to believe that mobility scooters - like many types of medical equipment - may be rather overpriced running up to $4,000 if not more. It is viable that your insurance company will handle the cost or partial of it - but in certain cases they may determine not to because the amount of time you require it for is not long enough.

Instead of buying one that is brand new you might alternatively rent one. There are several stores that will give you the alternative to rent mobility scooters. It is such a standard thing that numerous of the bigger companies that usually rent out only cars (like Avis) will rent them also to individuals. You can simply book your rental over the internet. It is similar to the way that you would be booking a car.

There are numerous people who own their own scooter - but find it challenging to bring it with them when they fly anywhere. They will leave it at home and alternatively will rent one out for the duration of their stay. This allows them to preserve theirs from getting damaged or lost.

Commonly renting mobility scooters will only cost between $20 to $50 a day. This is rather reasonable for many individuals. You will find that it will be more cost efficient for you and help you to save hundreds of dollars.

Getting to those old years gracefully http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/getting-to-those-old-years-gracefully.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/getting-to-those-old-years-gracefully.html Sun, 18 Nov 2007 00:00:00 -0600
Quality is as important or more important than quality, so it is as important to add life to years as adding years to life. We should be willing to enjoy every moment of the extended life if we achieve one. It is worthless to add years to life if we are not capable of enjoying the extension of life. In fact if that part of the extended life is not enjoyable it would turn out to be a burden on yourself.

As we all know the period of greatest physical and mental vigor is during the early years of life, approximately from 18 to 30 years. The experiences we accumulate from the day we are born help us to conserve and to use our physical and mental abilities more wisely, so that for some time after 30 years we are able to perform increasingly well in spite of slowly slipping vigor. After age 50 the increasing accumulation of experience is no longer able to offset the now more rapidly energy and therefore aging begins to assert itself noticeably and in many ways.

A number of things may come about gradually such as people who have not used eyeglasses before may at some time in their forties need them for reading, and in the fifties they usually need bifocals.

Also in the forties, people are likely to put on weight because there is a general slowdown in the oxidation rate of the aging body tissue. Also we tend to do less strenuous work with no reduction in the amount of food consumed.

And in the fifties there is likely to be some loss of hearing. Usually the high-pitched tomes go first, so words with the sounds of F, S, and TH are confused. A hearing aid may be needed in some cases.

Aging is generally accompanied by a loss in physical and mental flexibility. This is noticed in a tendency to become stiff in the joints; in slower comeback after a strenuous trip, excessive "night life," or hard work; in slower healing of wounds, sore muscles, and sprains; in slower recovery of pep after an illness; and in greater difficulty to adjust to new people, new places, and new ideas.

Men, especially, will notice loss of muscular strength. There will be increased unsteadiness and delicate muscle movements will be more clumsy and the stride in waking will become shorter. The conclusion now is that the performance and ability of the elderly has long been underestimated and can be greatly improved by a proper diet, sleep and exercise along with rest and relaxation.

Many elderly people tend to lose their joy and will to live and chronic worriers may mope around and withdraw. Medical authorities now say that laughter is one of the best medicines for the elderly. You can always keep your sense of humor tuned up by surrounding yourself with pleasant and interesting people. Just act your age and don't be afraid to laugh at yourself even when no else is around.

Now that we all know the role that physical activity plays in our lives, remember to do something physical every day. The joints must be used or quite simply they will tighten with age creating that stooped worn out appearance we so often associate with getting old. Keep yourself flexible and fit on an exercise program consistent with your ability.

How Does Your Heart React to Coffee? http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/how-does-your-heart-react-to-coffee.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/how-does-your-heart-react-to-coffee.html Wed, 29 Aug 2007 00:00:00 -0500
Data collected for the first National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Epidemiological by James Greenberg and colleagues at the City and State Universities of New York (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2007, 85 (2): 392- 398), revealed that those over 65 with normal blood pressure who drank at least 4 caffeinated beverages a day had a 53% reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease.

Caffeine may escalate the risk of heart attacks in some coffee drinkers, but lower the risk in others, based on the presence of genes that govern whether the body processes the stimulant slowly or quickly, scientists report today. Heart attacks might be a risk for coffee drinkers with a common genetic trait that makes caffeine linger in their bodies, a study suggests.

Correspondingly, hyper cholesterolaemic people younger than 59 with the rapid 1A genotype lowered their risk of heart attack by 52% when drinking 1 cup of coffee daily; 2-3 cups a day lowered risk by 43%, and 4 or more cups daily resulted in a reduction in heart attack risk of 17%.

In plain language that means that for those who process coffee fast, coffee reduces the risk of heart attacks. However, for the slow ones it increases the risk of heart attacks as much as heavy smoking.

Persons with or at increased risk of developing high cholesterol levels should drink only filtered coffee. Epidemiological studies have linked consumption of boiled, but not filtered, coffee with increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Research has shown that caffeine consumption may have a small effect on blood pressure; however, scientists do not consider coffee drinking to be an important risk factor for hypertension. The key risk factors are known to be a low potassium intake, high sodium intake, sedentary lifestyle and obesity.

In a 2005 research meta analysis (in which several research studies on a single topic are reviewed and synthesized into an overall conclusion), the German medical journal Therapeutische Umschau concluded that: "Despite many studies, no clear association between coffee and the risk of hypertension, heart attack, and other cardiovascular diseases was found."

In the past, raised cholesterol levels associated with coffee consumption have been linked to a greater risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The consumer's cholesterol levels will not be significantly raised by normal coffee consumption, nor will they be increasing the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

If you're over 65 and don't have high blood pressure, daily coffee consumption may offer protection against both cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline.

A blood pressure reading of 140/90 or higher is considered to be high blood pressure, which is a risk factor for heart disease and stroke. This means that coffee itself in not an actual risk, it is simply associated with the real risk factor.

In conclusion, then I would say to "listen" to your body. You know how your body reacts to coffee.

The bottom line is that the good qualities of coffee are its antioxidant properties! It is my opinion that the caffeine and the acid affect your body's pH balance, give you the jitters, and cause you to become addicted to the brew! Coffee (and tea) provides short-term boosts; however, the opposite effects are felt soon after, causing you to crave for more.

Sure, if you're a coffee lover and/or you are totally hooked on it for your daily boost, then it's comforting to know that there seems to be no major health hazards connected with it.

For optimum health that keeps on making you feel good without any sudden downers that make you crave for more and have you climbing the wall in the process, do seriously consider a natural, fruit-based antioxidant. Any healthy, full-of-goodness-whole-fruit-juice-concentrate antioxidant is never toxic or addictive. It provides the kind of healing goodness that you feel instantly and constantly.

Know Your Heels http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/know-your-heels.html http://www.articletrader.com/health/lifestyle/know-your-heels.html Tue, 29 Jan 2008 00:00:00 -0600
Stiletto

High heels are nothing new. 16th century men and women courtiers wore them regularly. But the Stiletto as we know it is a recent innovation. The Stiletto heel, named for its resemblance to a stiletto dagger, is long, thin and va-va-voom, typically ranging in height from three to four inches with a diameter at the ground of less than half an inch. It was only in the 1950’s that the technology required to create a Stiletto, wherein a metal shaft is implanted in the heel itself, was developed. The Stiletto was popular throughout the 1950’s and again in the Eighties. Anyone over 35 shamefully recalls the power suit/shoulder pad/Stiletto combo. The sexy shoes all but disappeared in the grunge-obsessed Nineties but triumphed again with the advent of designer denim, dressing up casual Fridays across America. Despite shifts in popularity, the confidence boosting capabilities and inherent sex appeal of the Stiletto make it a classic. Something happens to a woman when she slips on a Stiletto. They enhance posture, elongate the legs and cause even the most unassuming woman to strut. But confidence and sex appeal come at a price. The pressure transmitted through the narrow heel of a Stiletto exceeds that of an elephant standing on one foot.

Kitten

Kitten Heels are the gentler, more conservative cousin of the Stiletto. Generally between one and two inches in height, this heel, like the claw of a kitten, curves slightly inward beneath the sole before coming to a point. Kitten Heels were introduced in the late Fifties as a high heel alternative for young girls on whom stilettos would have been unseemly - imagine a pre-Britney era when girls dressed their age. Kitten Heels were often referred to as “trainer heels”, but with the endorsement of Audrey Hepburn, became fashionable for women of all ages, contributing to the demise of the Stiletto in the mid 1960’s. Today, Kitten Heels and women's shoes are the healthy heel alternative for women on the go. I wouldn’t recommend running a marathon in them but running errands? No problem. And wearing Kitten Heels puts you in good company. Super-tall, super-gorgeous actresses and models like Nicole Kidman and Uma Thurman are often spotted in them.
