Physics is the science of matter and energy and of interactions between the two, grouped in traditional fields such as acoustics, optics, mechanics, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism. Modern extensions also include atomic and nuclear physics, cryogenics, solid-state physics, particle physics, and plasma physics.

Physics covers a wide range of phenomena, from the smallest sub-atomic particles, to the largest galaxies. The most basic parts of physics are mechanics and field theory. Mechanics is concerned with the motion of particles or bodies under the action of given forces. The physics of fields is concerned with the origin, nature, and properties of gravitational, electromagnetic, nuclear, and other force fields.

Physics uses the scientific method to test the validity of a physical theory, using a methodical approach to compare the implications of the theory in question with the associated conclusions drawn from experiments and observations conducted to test it.
Contemporary research in physics can be broadly divided into condensed matter physics; atomic, molecular, and optical physics; particle physics; astrophysics; geophysics and biophysics.

Condensed matter physics is the field of physics that deals with the macroscopic physical properties of matter. Atomic, molecular, and optical physics (AMO) is the study of matter-matter and light-matter interactions on the scale of single atoms or structures containing a few atoms. Particle physics is the study of the elementary constituents of matter and energy, and the interactions between them. It may also be called "high energy physics", because many elementary particles do not occur naturally, but are created only during high energy collisions of other particles, as can be detected in particle accelerators. Astrophysics and astronomy are the application of the theories and methods of physics to the study of stellar structure, stellar evolution, the origin of the solar system, and related problems of cosmology. Applied physics is a general term for physics research which is intended for a particular use. An applied physics curriculum usually contains a few classes in an applied discipline, like geology or electrical engineering.

Physics is used heavily in engineering. For example, Statics , a subfield of mechanics, is used in the building of bridges and other structures.

Research in physics is continually progressing on a large number of fronts. In condensed matter physics, an important unsolved theoretical problem is that of high-temperature superconductivity. Many condensed matter experiments are aiming to fabricate workable spintronics and quantum computers. In particle physics, the first pieces of experimental evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model have begun to appear.

Solar Power, Let's Do a Favor to Ourselves http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/solar-power-leta%80%99s-do-a-favor-to-ourselves.html http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/solar-power-leta%80%99s-do-a-favor-to-ourselves.html Tue, 12 May 2009 06:12:04 -0500
Today solar power system is one of the most popular sources of power all over the world. Solar power system works well for most items. That energy is mainly used for residential purposes like cooking, heating, lighting etc. In addition, more benefit has seen in residential and commercial purpose. Because once you set the system you don't need to set it up again. This makes the solar panels more cost effective. It can also be mentioned that, using solar power is not harmful for our mother earth.

Everyday sun heats the surface and generates more than enough power that is needed to fulfill the power needs of the total population throughout the year. Almost 1000watt solar energy is available on every square meter area of the ground on a clear day. This amount is enormous! If we use some part of it properly, the power problems for of the world will become history. Why not use what is excess rather than exhausting a natural resource?

On top of all these features, the money that is needed for setting up a solar power system is cheaper than any other. The maintenance cost is also minimal and it is almost like the "install and forget" methods. Social awareness is growing rapidly throughout the USA. In North Carolina, thousand houses are using this system to save money as well as to save our environment.

It is high time that we changed our habits too, as we have caused enough damage to the world as it is. Apart from some negligible problems like rains and cloudy days, the solar panels are a great way to quench the power thirst of homes and offices. So let's go green and save money along the way!

Poison Ivy and what it means to you when affected by it http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/poison-ivy-and-what-it-means-to-you-when-affected-by-it.html http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/poison-ivy-and-what-it-means-to-you-when-affected-by-it.html Wed, 08 Apr 2009 02:32:24 -0500 It is vital to understand that the oil occurs not just in the leaves but in every part of the plant, including the root and the stem, and it is the immune system reacting against the poison, as it seeps into the skin, that is the root of the pain we experience.
Why Poison Ivy is poisonous
It may seem odd to us that at plant should be poisonous, but like many living things Poison Ivy has its part in the ecosystem. The way it grows is a guide as it is used as shelter for lower growing plants and ground dwelling animals, and the majority of these are, unlike humans, not affected by the oil.
Furthermore, Poison Ivy supplies berries that are an important foodstuff for a great number of bird species.
How to know the symptoms and more about Urushiol oil.
The patient will very quickly suffer from irritation in the skin, combined with severe itching and inflammation in the infected area. The skin will become darker and a burning irritation will occur, and in a short while blisters will form along with the rash.
Suffering can go on for many weeks or may be done with within days, and an individual case is different. It is suggested that cooling the skin is a good antidote and also prevents further infection.
There are various important points that people need to get to know about Urushiol oil, and the first is that it is very potent indeed. Research has proven that a small amount of the oil the size of a pin-head could be enough for 500 people, and as it is not a water based substance it will not evaporate.
The latter mentioned presents a major difficulty as it means the oil can stay on items it has been in contact with for as long as, and maybe longer than, a year. This gives us the possibility of re-infection, or of an individual who has not been in contact with the plant being affected. Clothes, shoes, tools and pets can all be party to the oil, and the very small amounts believed to cause suffering give it greater potency.
Gloves and coats, together with boots, are among the commonest causes of Poison Ivy infection and should be cleaned thoroughly if contamination is suspected.
How anyone can become infected
There are numerous ways that an individual can come into contact with the oil from Poison Ivy, and transfer from affected clothing and other items is one reason as we have already noted.
The reason that we suffer when having encountered the oil is because of the instant reaction it promotes, and it is notable that direct contact with the plant is not vital to induce a reaction.
If Poison Ivy is burned the smoke is contaminated with vaporised oil, and even coming into contact with this concoction can induce an attack. It has been said that a 100 year old plant once affected a sufferer, an indication of how much troube the plant can be.
Anything that has been in contact with the sap of the plant must be avoided, therefore, and animals kept away from Poison Ivy bushes.
How to look after a sufferer of a Poison Ivy reaction
It is important that treatment is attempted immediately, and the best method is to wash the contaminated area in warm water. A popular recommendation is to use a very well tried antimicrobial soap and to do all one can to stop the patient from scratching, as this will spread the infection beyond its boundaries.
It is essential to score the blisters, too, and to give the area of infection exposure to the air. Keeping blisters attended to is imperative in order not to add infection.
Remember that it is just the oil that will allow the infection to spread, so contact with it should be treated with caution.
The condition will, at some point, clear up completely, but there are treatments available for the irritation and for the worst reactions. It is the domain of the individual whether to wait for it to subside or to invite further help. Some of us are fortunate in that they have no sensitivity to Poison Ivy, but these are scarece and most of us would be infected by coming into contact with the bush.
If one finds Poison Ivy the best advice a man can give is the most logical – avoid it very carefully and don’t let your pet near it.

Understanding the Importance of Color http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/understanding-the-importance-of-color.html http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/understanding-the-importance-of-color.html Wed, 28 Jan 2009 12:56:26 -0600 Too many times when someone thinks about color, their attention goes to old and common favorites such as blue or pink or green. When some say blue, they mean light blue or sky blue or cornflower blue. Saying pink could mean anything from pale rose to hot pink. And green is even more difficult to describe between bright green, grass green, aquamarine greens or greens that are actually blues. With home computers, printers and digital photography continually increasing in use, becoming more precise with color definitions is proving to be more necessary than ever before.

The CMYK Model

One of the best places to start when trying to understand the color spectrum is with the CMYK color model which is composed of cyan that is a bluish green, magenta which is a purplish red, yellow that is a medium yellow and key which is black. The CMYK color model is newer to the industry compared to the more traditional RGB, or red, green, blue model. Just as it is difficult for a person to communicate what shade of blue they are talking about, it is also difficult for someone in the printing business to replicate an exact image in the same shades of color as the original version they may be attempting to copy. By using an industry standard such as the CMYK color model, better consistency in color representations can be made.
In the printing industry, all colors in the spectrum can be created with a blend from cyan, magenta, yellow or black. Many people believe that when the color black is used in personal printers or even some commercial printers, that it is strictly the black ink cartridge when in fact, a richer black can be created from the other three colors in the model in addition to using key.

Color Origins

By understanding the origin of a color, often it becomes easier to separate the color families and more accurately describe a specific color. The colors magenta and fuchsia are two good examples of colors whose origin is important to their description. Magenta and fuchsia are often used interchangeably to describe a bright, vibrant pink. However, magenta actually contains more purple pigment than fuchsia, making fuchsia more brilliant of the two. Fuchsia is also a plant found within nature that provides a dye known as fuchsine that is actually used to create magenta.
There are several colors with names that are also found in nature such as the color orange or indigo. Many colors have originated within nature and have been given their names accordingly. Finding colors in their natural environment and attempting to replicate their vibrance, depth and richness is nearly impossible, but by creating color models and theories, we can come close.
There are many great technologies available to help carefully match colors but if there is little understanding about what will create the best color, the results of any color project are likely to be less than what you may have expected. Learning that it is often easier to add a color to white to get the best blend rather than adding the white to the color can save time and money with the amount of paint involved. Using brown shades to get a deeper red can sometimes be far better than mixing black. Learning about the precise difference between color shades along with how they are each blended together is a valuable attribute for anyone, whether they are a professional photographer or merely trying to paint a room or two in their home.

The Time before Cheap Flights http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/the-time-before-cheap-flights.html http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/the-time-before-cheap-flights.html Wed, 17 Dec 2008 06:47:37 -0600
Flight and flying have fascinated human beings since the beginning of time. Nearly all ancient cultures contain myths about flying deities. Imposing wings are found in portrayals of the gods of ancient Egypt, Minoa, and Mesopotamia. Angels, interestingly enough, were not necessarily shown to have wings until the Middle Ages. Winged flight was seen as being the privilege of the gods and men who donned wings were thought to be arrogant in their quest for flight. The famous Greek legend of Daedalus and Icarus carries a clear warning - arrogance shall quite literally come before a fall.

All these dire warnings did nothing to deter humankind from experimenting though. Bird flight was researched avidly, but a clear understanding of the mechanisms behind it was not achieved until the 20th century. Passion defeated by reality was a lesson that would-be aeronauts would learn repeatedly throughout the centuries, often at a high price. Imagination was in no short supply and many a fellow met his end jumping from high buildings and mountains strapped into ill-advised home-made contraptions of wire and feathers.

Leonardo Da Vinci, the celebrated 15th century artist and scientist, left over 500 pages of drawings and research showing a developing understanding of the mechanics of flight. His involved study of the structure of birds’ wings led him to understand that that human form was not capable of birdlike flight, but he designed many ornithopters that required simultaneous pedalling of arms and feet. Inspired by the principle of the Archimedean Screw, a device known since antiquity and used to transport water uphill, he proceeded to draught an elemental proto-helicopter that used a wide screw to lift itself into the air. But since power would still have to be supplied to the contraption by a human being, it was a hopeless endeavour.

Let’s skip over all the fruitless endeavours of subsequent centuries and get down to the lads who got it right – the brothers Wright. Orville and Wilbur Wright had many aspiring engineer-inventor fellows who worked through multiple failures. The Wright brothers were inspired by the glider experiments of the German Otto Lilienthal and the Scottish engineer Percy Pilcher. December 17 1903 saw their 750-pound plane launch from a railroad track at less than seven miles per hour, attaining an altitude of perhaps ten feet, and landing after 120 feet. With this, heavier than air, fixed-wing powered aircraft suddenly became a very real possibility.

Military requirements played a large role in the subsequent development of airplanes. Emerging from the war with tremendous manufacturing capacity and engineering talent, the Douglas, Boeing, and Lockheed companies dominated the commercial aircraft industry.

And the rest, as they say is history. So, next time you board your cheap flight east take a second to think about all the achievements of the men that went before us and left us with the knowledge to build these powerful flying machines.

Processes Involved In Blavatsky’s Writings and its effects http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/processes-involved-in-blavatskys-writings-and-its-effects.html http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/processes-involved-in-blavatskys-writings-and-its-effects.html Thu, 11 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0500
Descriptive Writing: This is the conventional method of authorship with the added dimension of one who writes from the standpoint of Occultism.

Writing by Instruction: Here the writing is under instruction and supervision from her Adept Master in fulfillment of her task as the messenger in bringing the teachings of the Perennial Philosophy to the Western world.

Writing by Dictation: Writing by virtue of the capacity to be in perfect mutual psycho-magnetic rapport with an Adept in Occult Sciences, whereupon thought transference and dictation of whole pages becomes possible since space and distance, as such, do not exist for thought.

Writing by Directive Clairvoyance: This is the faculty of being able to select a book on a specific theme although never having physically seen the volume before; then, from any page in the work; then to choose an appropriate passage on a pre-determined subject; then having selected a citation, the ability to copy it verbatim, and give its correct page; moreover to support this citation by quoting another author, an extract from another book would be required in a similar manner. HPB was taught this Siddhi by her Teachers during her exacting training period in Tibet.

Writing by Psychometry: This involves the faculty whereby a sensitive person can receive from any object held in the hand or against the forehead impressions of the character or appearance of the individual, or any other object with which it has previously been in contact. Thus a manuscript, painting or item of jewelry, no matter how ancient, will convey to the sensitive a vivid picture of the writer, painter or wearer.

Writing by Precipitation: This signifies the materialization of the message on paper or other substance (the Mahatma Letters were received in this way as well).

Writing by a process Analogous to Tulku: Difficult to explain as there is no English word equivalent to the Tibetan, broadly speaking this involves the Siddhi of being able to project one’s consciousness by means of an illusory vehicle or body.

Chief Fields Of Research Spurred By Blavatsky’s Writings on Occult science and Meta Physics

The revelation of hitherto guarded facts about the inner workings of nature has spurred major research in a number of areas in science. As HPB tells us, the truths inspired to such as Kepler, Leibnitz, Gassendi and Swedenborg have never found a fair hearing. But now science is beginning to take note. Indeed the Mahatmas have affirmed that ‘modern science is [becoming] our best ally’.
There are two broad areas where science and Theosophy can supplement one another: natural science, and life science.

Matter and Light

It is interesting how closely the latest experiments and theories in quantum physics on the nature of light and matter appear to mirror the fundamental esoteric tenets, chiefly regarding the role of consciousness.

Cosmology

Big bang theories in cosmology have remained virtually unchallenged for over a decade, but scientists are now beginning to realize the limitations of this model chiefly regarding the exclusion of intelligence from the scheme, and the question about pre-big bang events.

Consciousness

This is currently the most hotly debated topic which divides into two groups: the materialists and the anti-materialists. The former group regard consciousness purely as a function of brain activity and their goal is the ‘easy problem’ of explaining how the brain executes its various data processing tasks. The latter group force the ‘hard problem’ that understanding cerebral mechanisms does not necessarily imply an understanding of consciousness per se.

Anthropology, Geology and Evolutionary Theory

Darwinian evolutionary theory is starting to show serious flaws that could swing the scientific picture on evolution into the orbit of Theosophy. A seminal contribution to this breakdown of rigid Darwinism is the work of Michael A. Cremo and Richard L. Thompson in their book The Hidden History of the Human Race which is a condensed edition of Forbidden Archaeology of 952 pages.

This work exposes a major scientific cover-up in that evolutionary prejudices, deeply held by powerful groups of scientists have served to screen out, suppress and ignore facts that contradict the dominant establishment viewpoint of human origins and antiquity.

Cremo and Thompson have provided detailed and thorough evidence to demonstrate that people like ourselves existed on earth millions of years before the geological period claimed by Darwinism – and this enormous antiquity of the human race is certainly a key tenet of the occult doctrine on evolution and anthropogenesis.

An ideal first textbook and an indispensable reference on electronics for engineers, scientists, professional, amateur, and for all those who works with electronic circuits.

With more than 1000 pages, this book covers all the areas of electronic circuit design, both analog and digital, from basic DC voltage, current, and resistance, to active filters and oscillators, to digital electronics, including microprocessors and digital bus interfacing. The book also discusses the often-neglected areas, such as high-speed design techniques, low-power applications, and high-frequency. Though the text is information dense but the intimate tone used makes it easily readable and more accessible.

The USP of this book is its collection of useful example circuits. Along with some examples of good circuits it has some bad ideas too; to disuss what makes the good designs good and the bad ones bad.

Reviews of the book

"This is a delightful book ... an excellent teaching text as well as a lab reference. The circuits actually work, the schematics are readable, and there is even a section on how to draw good schematics. I recently observed a graduate student in physics unfamiliar with op-amps start to build a haywired mess of a circuit. He then took home The Art of Electronics for one night, and the next day the mess was taken apart, to be replaced by a correctly designed working circuit." -- Review of Scientific Instruments

"Full of clever circuits and sharp insights, but with a surprising minimum of mathematics.... This scheme of making maximum use of the insights of simple approximations described in words, and introducing more formal design only after understanding has gained real headway, is the pedagogical core of this original treatment.... The depth is genuine, as is the richness of examples, data and apt tricks." -- Scientific American

Some of the best electronic industry publications.

Blavatsky’s Message and Teaching http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/blavatskys-message-and-teaching.html http://www.articletrader.com/science/physics/blavatskys-message-and-teaching.html Thu, 26 Jun 2008 00:00:00 -0500
This Divine Wisdom is variously known as the Ancient Wisdom, or Wisdom-Religion, or Esoteric Philosophy, or Perennial Philosophy, or Occult Science. All these terms allude to the fact that Theo-sophia is not a system of belief formulated by an individual, nor a religion in the ordinary meaning of the word denoting formalized worship and ritual; instead it is the accumulated wisdom of innumerable ages that has been systematically checked by generations of sages the world over.

What then is Occult Science?

It is a generic term referring to the Hermetic or Esoteric Sciences, which explore the essential, or hidden secrets of Nature – physical and psychic, mental and spiritual – rather than, but not excluding, Her outward appearance and mechanical behavior which Western science studies to virtual perfection.

For example, that Swedenborg came to the Occult teachings in his general conceptions is shown by his essay on the Vortical Theory.

HPB’s message

As to the message that HPB brought: it is based on fundamental axioms formulated into three propositions that cannot be thought of independently from the whole, meaning that no aspect, no principle and no law can be properly considered in isolation: the Universe and all that is in it constitute a WHOLE.

Furthermore, it cannot be too strongly emphasized that these propositions are not the invention of HPB or anyone else. They form the basis of the presentation of the doctrines of the Divine Wisdom. Countless generations of sages have checked these doctrines by study as well as practical experience in a manner akin to the inductive method of science whereby a hypothesis put forward is checked by repeatable experiments and only when there is a sufficient corroboration between hypothesis and experimental verification is the former elevated to a theory.

In similar vein these sages have found the teachings enunciated to be in consonance with the overriding philosophy formulated by them. But it was HPB who synthesized the diverse and scattered fragments of this doctrine into a coherent system and body of knowledge made available for the first time to, and in a suitable idiom for, the Western world at large.

But it is as well to point out here HPB’s counsel ‘that no human-born doctrine, no creed, however sanctified by custom and antiquity, can compare in sacredness with the religion of Nature. The Key of Wisdom that unlocks the massive gates leading to the arcana of the innermost sanctuaries can be found hidden in her bosom only: and that bosom is in the countries pointed to by the great seer of the past century Emanuel Swedenborg. There lies the heart of nature, that shrine whence issued the early races of primeval Humanity, and which is the cradle of physical man’.

The Cards of Destiny have dealt humankind a jewel beyond price in HPB’s message of spiritual uplift and universal brotherhood to be attained by a knowledge of the eternal verities of our existence. Have we used this sublime gift with gratitude, understanding and love? Who is to say? All spiritual teachers are but messengers. They proffer no initiations and perform no miracles at our behest. All that they can do is to say, with H. P.Blavatsky: ‘I can tell you how to find those who will show you the secret gateway that leads inward only, and closes fast behind the neophyte for evermore. For those who win onwards, there is reward past all telling: the power to bless and save humanity. For those who fail, there are other lives in which success may come.’
