In order to make category 5 KVM functional, it needs the services of Cat5 KVM switches. With Cat5 KVM switches, multiple computers can be controlled with one single Keyboard, Monitor and Mouse or KVM. Cat5 KVM switches are useful if you are using several computers and you do not want to separate input devices for them.

These switches support several platforms such as SUN, IBM, HP, and Dell. They are also compatible with the operating systems like Windows Vista, Windows 2003, Windows XP, Windows 2000, UNIX and MAC. KVM switches are helpful in utilizing space and managing cables.

The control can be switched between computers by pressing one single button on the switch of Cat5 KVM. In buying KVM switches, there are important things to consider, and one of them is their types. The USB KVM allows you to control up to 15 USB computers with one single USB KVM and VGA monitor.

USB KVM switches come in 2, 4, 8 and 16 port versions. They have built-in on screen display that is helpful in server management. The models that are included on this type are audio and microphone features. They can be plugged and controlled via hot keys, on-screen display and push buttons on the front.

IP KVM switches have almost all benefits of KVM switches. They also eliminate distance problems by allowing secure remote access to manage connected personal computers to an IP KVM through TCP/IP network. You can manage your entire network from any location by using a 128-bit secure browser. IP KVM switches are available in 8 and 16 ports, and support high resolution up to 1920 x 1440 in the local and 1600 x1200 on IP.

Cat5 KVM can also use dual DVI KVM switches. These switches make possible to use one KVM and two DVI displays to control several computers and dual display. DVI KVM switches are built in a rugged metal enclosure. They are available in 2 and 4 port sizes with PS2 KVM DVI-I video connections. For their operation, they use simple push buttons.

The products of KVM are classified as digital and front-end IP, if you want to implement KVM over IP. Pure digital applications use digital KVM switches. They are a network-based management approach, which allows you to gain BIOS-level access of the connected servers by communicating with the networked digital KVM switch.

The front-end IP products are situated at the console of existing analog switches and allow remote users to gain secure access to an existing KVM switch. Cat5 KVM enables you to connect several servers through Cat5, Cat5e and Cat6 UTP cable switches which are designed to offer added benefits like eliminating cable clutter, better cable management, and higher density.

They also support multi-platform capabilities and longer distances between the server and the switch. Cat5 KVM allows 1,000 feet distance apart or unlimited distance gap if it is over IP.

Broadband Access - Monaco Hits A Hundred Per Cent http://www.articletrader.com/technology/broadband-access-monaco-hits-a-hundred-per-cent.html http://www.articletrader.com/technology/broadband-access-monaco-hits-a-hundred-per-cent.html Tue, 09 Mar 2010 09:51:16 -0600
There's also the fact that Monaco real estate is the highest priced in the world, frequent comfortable bus transport is just a Euro a journey, and has the best Grand Prix in the world too, run each May around the streets of Monte Carlo.

But not content with style and tradition, Monaco has just been named as the country with the best broadband for her people in the world, showing that the tax haven is not just moving with the times, but welcoming new technology and embracing the new opportunities it affords.

Over 40 per cent of Monaco households have and use broadband, while broadband is available to every property in the Principality - the second smallest country in the world after the Vatican.

Part of the reason for the hundred per cent coverage of broadband in Monaco could well be because of her size - just a square mile. There are few houses in Monaco, with nearly everyone living in an apartment building, which means in simple terms making broadband to all is inexpensive compared to rural areas with remote farmhouses and communities with a sparse population, where installation of broadband would be expensive and probably done at a loss if undertaken by a private company with no government subsidy.

But the ease of installation of broadband in somewhere like Monaco shouldn't necessarily be seen as why there's a hundred per cent availability for her citizens - while steeped in tradition Monaco under the leadership of Prince Albert is one of the world's most forward thinking countries, and welcoming new technology is part of that outlook.

An example of Monaco's forward thinking is that there is a first class bus service in the Principality that runs on time and regularly, cutting down the number of people who need to drive to work or for the shops. And in a country where's there a higher density of millionaires than anyone else it isn't expensive - one Euro.

And when it comes to the environment, low cost bus fares to encourage people out of cars onto public transport isn't the only environmental policy being pursued - Prince Albert has visited both the North and South Poles to highlight global warming, and in meetings with other world leaders puts the environment and climate change at the top of the agenda.

The oceans have always been important to the Grimaldi family who have ruled Monaco for centuries, and Prince Albert is no exception when it comes to protecting the seas. Blue fin tuna has been voluntarily taken off the menu by all the restaurants and hotels in Monaco.

So Monaco is able to mix a concern and real action on the environment with a financial environment where the Monaco banks are sought after by the world's wealthy, is a mecca for gamblers with the world famous casino, broadband for everyone, and one of the greatest sporting spectacles in the world at each May's Monaco Grand Prix - preparations are already underway for example for the 2011 Monaco Grand Prix

In a recent poll of British sports fans, the Monaco Grand Prix was voted the top sporting event outside the UK. The event had 18 percent of the vote, beating both the Olympics and the famed Barcelona event at Camp Nou stadium. Formula One established itself formally on the international race circuit in 1946. The first Monaco Grand Prix was ran in 1948. It was won by Nino Farina, the future world champion, driving a Maserati.

And just as the Monaco Grand Prix is world class, when it comes to broadband and new technology it's number one in the world for individuals and businesses alike.

How Do electrical Transformers Work? http://www.articletrader.com/technology/how-do-electrical-transformers-work.html http://www.articletrader.com/technology/how-do-electrical-transformers-work.html Wed, 17 Feb 2010 00:05:49 -0600
The transformers are composed of ferromagnetic core and two or more coils labeled as "windings". Any electrical changes in the primary winding create an alternating magnetic field in the core, which multiplies the field and the flux through the secondary windings. This in turn, incites alternating voltage in each of the secondary coils.

If another wire is present near an electric current that is changing strength, the electricity will flow into that wire as magnetism changes. An electrical transformer takes in electricity at a higher voltage and allows it to flow through several coils wound around an iron core.

The magnetism in the core changes as the electric current does. Surrounding the core is an output wire with fewer coils. The electric current within the wire is derived from the fluctuating activity in the magnetism. If the coils are fewer, the voltage is low. This incidence is called "stepped-down" voltage.

Electrical transformers are used in utility poles of electric companies and in changing the voltage in a toy train set. In the household application, when electricity moves from a power plant, it is placed into a high voltage to enable it to travel long distances. The high voltage lines can range between 155,000 to 765,000 volts to have the capacity to travel hundred of miles.

In order to use the electricity in a household or store, it needs to be at a lower voltage. The electricity should be on a "stepped-down" to a lower level using an electrical transformer.

The lower voltage electricity is placed into local electric wires at a substation, which breaks down the larger amount of power into smaller electricity at a lower voltage. Hence, the voltage is stepped-down.

Now, when the smaller transformers take the voltage down to 7,200, the power leaves such substation. The transformer on a utility pole or underground wires transfigures the 7,200 volts into 220-240 volts, which is then sent into your household over three wires.

These three wires go through the electric meter that measures the amount of electricity consumed. Two of the wires are electrical-charged and the other wire serves ground. The Step-up transformer contains greater number of windings on the side where it outputs the energy. It increases the voltage as it reduces the current. It is used in appliances that use 220 volts.

The step-down electrical transformer is used to reverse the winding ratio. Examples of its applications include a battery-run device than can be plugged into the wall, so the radio may run on 12v batteries, and on 110v through adapters having a step-down transformer inside.

Isolation electrical transformers have many applications. They break circuits into primary and secondary. They are also used to prevent capacitance buildup between the primary and secondary which causes high-frequency noise.

Business Ethernet - Is It Suitable For Your Organization? http://www.articletrader.com/technology/business-ethernet-is-it-suitable-for-your-organization.html http://www.articletrader.com/technology/business-ethernet-is-it-suitable-for-your-organization.html Thu, 11 Feb 2010 09:49:22 -0600
The unfortunate truth of the matter is that basing this particular decision on price alone is no different from anything else where you would put faitth on your determination solely on cost. Would you purchase a 1973 Volkswagen as a substitute for a brand new BMW just because the other is less expensive? Would you get a little pad of paper and a pencil rather than a smartphone to manage details because it's less expensive? Do you consume Schlitz beer as opposed to Heineken because it's less expensive? Would not the component of QUALITY play a part in your decision, together with the basic question of being adequate to meet your needs?

DSL and cable are good … as residential services. They were created for residential use because there is almost no reliability built in. They were created to be over-subscribed, which is the sole method that they can meet the price points they sell it for. You get zero guaranteed uptime, you get zero guaranteed bandwidth availability, you get zero guaranteed repair time if there is a trouble, and you get zero speed guarantees. None at all. Are you ready to gamble your entire organization on something with zero guarantees? In the current fiercely intense market in any industry, that doesn't sound like a sensible move to me.

You claim you are considering FIOS or "business class" DSL or cable? To start with, please note that FIOS is basically only cable with a thyroid condition and still offers zero guarantees. In terms of "business class DSL or cable", business class is still shared amongst up to 60 or more additional clients in your region, it is not dedicated, and also has zero guarantees.

Business Ethernet does not automatically signify fiber, but what it does mean is that you get the exact same guarantees for this DEDICATED circuit as you would with the SLA (Service Level Agreement) that you receive with a T1 or DS3 circuit from a first tier carrier. And you get the guarantees for all the items above that neither DSL nor cable can provide.

Business Ethernet is not available in all parts of the country but it is widely available in most big cities and just about certainly available within major cities in the Us, compared to T1 which is available essentially anywhere you can get a telephone line installed.

When does Business Ethernet make financial sense? Typically it begins to make financial sense for your organization when your bandwidth needs are higher than 5 to 6 MB. In nearly all medium and large cities across the Us, you can get a 10 MB Ethernet circuit for less than what a four bonded T1 (6 MB) would cost.

Business Ethernet is not for residential or home business use. At your home, you do not have the need to put a dozen or more individuals on the same circuit at the same time. Even though it can be installed at home, it is rarely cost effective to do so.

As a final point, do your shopping. Getting Business Ethernet or any other sort of circuit from a second or third tier carrier is a potential recipe for disaster. If you are gambling the long life of your organization on this connectivity, doesn't it make a lot more sense to go with a trusted, proven, and reliable carrier who can maintain your circuit running quickly and efficiently? The couple bucks you save by going with a second or third tier carrier is predictably going to cost you much more than your savings in the long run.

--
If you are shopping for business Ethernet for your business, doesn't it only make sense to go with a leader? Shop from one place from amongst about 30 first tier carriers who can provide service nationwide with a low price guarantee. The Rise, Fall and Rise of Buell Motorbikes http://www.articletrader.com/technology/the-rise-fall-and-rise-of-buell-motorbikes.html http://www.articletrader.com/technology/the-rise-fall-and-rise-of-buell-motorbikes.html Wed, 10 Feb 2010 10:42:55 -0600 motorcycle insurance providers. Yet, after the shocking news in October 2009 that Harley-Davidson had put an end to the commercial production of Buell motorcycles, it didn't take long for the company's founder to bounce back with his focus on racing and the birth of Erick Buell Racing.

It shouldn't take Buell too long to immerse himself comfortably into his new niche, after all it was racing that set him on this track in the first place. In 1983 Buell himself was a top competition racer - and he developed the RW750 using modified Barton parts and his own modifications in order for it to compete in the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Formula 1 Championship.

Shortly afterward Buell left his job at Harley-Davidson in order to pursue his dream to improve on the RW750. The following year saw the launch of the aptly named RW750 number 2 which went on to be raced by the AMU team that same year. Yet, after receiving fantastic reviews by its riders, the AMA later announced an end to the Formula 1 series - and thus an arena for Buell's racing machines.

This didn't stop Buell though. By the 1990s he entered the commercial market with his RR1000, RR1200 and the two seated RS1200 using engines gained via his connections with Harley-Davidson. By 1993 Harley-Davidson partnered with the Buell Motor Company and Buell's organisation with Harley-Davidson as stakeholders came to be known as Buell Motorcycle Company.

The 1990s and 2000s saw significant advancements with the development of Zero Torsional Load (ZTL) disc braking system and the efficient fuel in frame technology used in the XB range, as well as notable Thunderbolt and Cyclone names. 2009 saw significant progress in Buell bikes rode for racing too with Danny Eslick winning their first AMA Pro racing championship on September 9th.

Following this, the decision for Harley-Davidson to stop the production of Buell motorcycles was no doubt surprising and saddening to many, but Erik Buell's return to focus on Erik Buell Racing is apt and well timed. 2010, therefore, could really see the Buell 1125R make some serious progress on the racetrack.

The S1000RR - BMW motorcycles in good stead for 2010 http://www.articletrader.com/technology/the-s1000rr-bmw-motorcycles-in-good-stead-for-2010.html http://www.articletrader.com/technology/the-s1000rr-bmw-motorcycles-in-good-stead-for-2010.html Wed, 10 Feb 2010 10:22:05 -0600 bike insurance, will want to appeal to new potential customers. BMW will arguably be in a fantastic position to make the most of any positive trends in the industry, especially after acknowledging the manufacturer's comparably good performance (dropping only 22 percent, when the entire market fell by 41 percent) in the US over the last year.

The hotly anticipated S1000RR looks set to push boundaries and to really adopt the position of market frontrunner. Since its launch in 2008, 1,000 production models were made in the following year with the bike being taken to impressive success in the Superbike World Championship by Troy Corser in the Czech Republic and Ruben Xaus in Italy respectively.

2010, however, sees the first of the S1000RR to hit the dealerships - a development in the company that even the project leader, Stefan Zeit, hadn't anticipated when he suggested a BMW sportbike when he first took up the job and was subsequently assured that BMW would never produce one. The fact that the model looks to be the most powerful 1000cc bike on the market has got more than a few heads turned - and a few deposits already laid down too.

So what else does the S1000RR have to offer? Aside from being incredibly powerful, the model also boasts the best power-to-weight ratio available at 183 kg (400 lb) dry and 204 kg (450 lb) wet. There are also many electronic perks such as a ride-by-wire throttle and variable-length intake tracts - as well as optional extras including ABS and traction control. The model has also been noted for its digitally selected sport modes, rain, sport (up to 190 break horsepower), race and slick (for taking onto the track).

Adjustable suspension and ride height also makes each bike easily changeable for each individual rider - and its simplicity is commendable. The model has already entered into the market in high regard, and it seems unlikely that this bike will not remain at the top for some time.

A little history of the iPod

In 2001 Apple Computer introduced the iPod, a small electronic device that is capable of playing MP3 or ACC compression algorithms. The original iPods could store a few hundred to ten thousand songs. The Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), created by Dolby Labs, is based on the MPEG-4 audio video standard technology and AAC supports Digital Rights Management (DRM) which is used to encode songs and music purchased legally with digital signatures which reduces the illegal sharing of songs.

Next, Apple iPod music player was made smaller, they released the iPod mini which was 1/3 the size of the original, and two years after that they introduced the iPod Shuffle, comparable to the size of a pack of chewing gum.

Another difference, the mini used a small hard disk, and the shuffle used what is known as a flash drive. However, it is not like the flash drives used with PCs. The shuffle flash drive, when powered off, does not lose its content.

Dude, Where's My Dad? http://www.articletrader.com/technology/dude-wheres-my-dad.html http://www.articletrader.com/technology/dude-wheres-my-dad.html Thu, 28 Jan 2010 14:23:01 -0600
The Alzheimer's Association warns that more than 60 percent of elderly patients afflicted with dementia will wander and become lost at some point in their lives.

One solution many advocates are promoting is the use of personal GPS tracking devices to help locate dementia patients within minutes of the realization they have gone missing.

"Personal GPS devices that can be tracked via an online dashboard can literally be lifesaving devices," said George Karonis, CEO of LiveViewGPS (www.liveviewGPS.com) and a former law enforcement officer with 15 years on the street. "Some devices are so small, they can fit on a keychain, in a pocket or they can even be sewn into clothing if need be. Having been in law enforcement and having dealt with missing persons cases, I can tell you that the first few hours that an elderly person wanders is the most critical, as many dementia patients suffer from other ailments and are on strict medication regimens. If they are without their medication for too long, they can collapse, suffer a cardiac arrest or worse. These devices can be tracked online, meaning you can actually log onto your dashboard online and get an exact position of the GPS holder that is accurate up to the last 20 seconds if they are on foot."

Karonis said that caretakers of elderly dementia patients should look for devices that have feature sets designed to help them track and locate people fast, including:

• Online tracking via the Internet
• Rapid updates, so the location reported is accurate
• Long battery life, and a motion-activated power button, so the unit is only using the battery for power when it is in motion
• Portable, capable of fitting in your hand or on a key chain
• Memory that stores tracking points for future reference

"A portable GPS monitoring system can be an invaluable aid for law enforcement and rescue workers trying to locate missing elderly people before they can be hurt and providing peace of mind for family members," Karonis said. "When used correctly, it can act as a safeguard against tragedy because it enables family and police to find a missing person within minutes."

Give Me Information On An Industrial Circuit Breaker http://www.articletrader.com/technology/give-me-information-on-an-industrial-circuit-breaker.html http://www.articletrader.com/technology/give-me-information-on-an-industrial-circuit-breaker.html Wed, 20 Jan 2010 21:47:40 -0600
Several circuit breakers are classified according to voltage class, construction type, structural features and interrupting type. Under the voltage class, three types of electric circuit breakers can be made. These are the low voltage, medium voltage and high voltage circuit breakers.

The low voltage industrial circuit breakers, containing less than 1000 VAC, are used commonly in residential, commercial and industrial application. There are two sub-types of low voltage circuit breakers, namely the miniature circuit breaker, and the molded case circuit breaker.

The miniature circuit breaker or MCB has a rated current of not more than 100A. It can be operated by thermal or thermal-magnetic operation. However, its trip characteristics are not adjustable.

The molded case circuit breaker or MCCB has a rated current of up to 1000A. Like the MCB, this too can be operated by thermal or thermal-magnetic operation. Its trip current may be adjustable in larger ratings.

Low voltage circuit breakers are made for direct current applications or DC. They have electrical motor operators, which can be opened and closed under remote control. They can be mounted in multi-tiers in low voltage switchboards.

The medium voltage industrial circuit breakers are rated between 1 and 72 kV. They may be assembled into metal-enclosed switchgear line up for indoor. They can also be installed in individual components for outdoors. The characteristics for medium voltage are defined by international standards such as International Electrotechnical Commission 62271.

There are three sub-types under medium voltage. These are vacuum circuit breakers, the air circuit breakers, and the SF6 circuit breakers. The SF6 circuit breaker extinguishes the arc in a chamber of sulfur hexafluoride gas.

The vacuum circuit breakers have a rated current of up to 3000A. They interrupt the electric current by creating and extinguishing the arc inside a vacuum chamber Vacuum industrial circuit breakers are used for voltages up to 35,000 V and tend to last longer.

The Air circuit breakers have a rated current of 10,000A. The trip characteristic is adjustable, which includes configurable trip delays and thresholds. This breaker is used for main power distribution in large industrial plant.

The high voltage circuit breakers are used to protect and control the electrical power transmission networks. Its rated current when used in power transmission is believed to be 72.5 kV, or even higher.

Typically, high voltage circuit breakers are solenoid-operated having current sensing protective relays running through current transformers. They are available with current ratings of up to 765 kV, and are used on transmission systems.

The other two types of industrial circuit breakers are magnetic and thermal-magnetic. The magnetic breakers use a solenoid electromagnet. Its inherent pulling force increases with the electric current. The thermal magnetic circuit breakers are used in distribution boards. They use electromagnet and bimetallic strip to trip the breaker.

All industrial circuit breakers share common operating features. They are set apart from each other in terms of voltage class, current rating and the type of circuit breakers. They are expected to detect faulty conditions.
