Choosing The Right Golf Clubs

Generally, a set of golf clubs off the shelf isn’t likely to be a perfect fit for you. Manufacturers create golf clubs for folks of average build – whatever that is! Not only is everyone different in their physical make-up, but no two players swing exactly the same. So one golf club size definitely does not fit all.

If your clubs are too long or too short, you're likely to have problems. To find the right size clubs for you, try swinging with a few different lengths. Basically, you choose clubs that are about as long as the distance from your navel to the floor. You don't need to decide right away—lots of courses and driving ranges have sample clubs that you can practice with until you find the perfect fit!

You can rent different kinds of equipment, too. Before you invest in a set of expensive clubs, try a variety of types at your local golf course. Test the waters for a few months. See what feels best for your game.

Now, if after you’ve tried out several brands of clubs, and you’re getting serious about the game, it’s a good idea to get custom fitted by a PGA professional at a golf range. Don’t do this until you’re able to consistently repeat a swing. Bottom line – if you can’t hit worth a nickel, you don’t need to be fitted for clubs yet!

A golf pro can help you find which clubs are best for you. As previously stated, everyone has a different physique. Some clubs just aren’t going to feel right to you. This is no reflection on your game and certainly no reason to quit playing. By getting custom fitted for your clubs, you will likely hit the ball more consistently and accurately.

First, the fitter will have you hit a few balls. This is no time to try to impress. Just hit normally, and try to loosen up. Your swing speed will be recorded to determine the right flex of shaft.

Fitters will take into account the length of the club so that it’s comfortable for you. They’ll look at your hands to determine if you need special grip fitting. You may need longer or shorter clubs.

The angle of the club may be adjusted for you as well. When you’re done with the “fitting”, specific recommendations will be made regarding

• Length of club
• Size and design of clubhead
• Lie angle
• Shaft type
• Grip type
• Set make-up

Then you can make a wise decision on exactly what clubs to purchase. You will likely see an improvement in your game overall when you have the right equipment, tailor-fitted for you.

--

Use A Golf Training Club To Quickly Improve Golf Swing Speed

Using a golf training club is one of the most effective ways to increase golf swing speed and power. You can’t get anymore golf –specific than using a golf training club.

There are many golf training clubs on the market and new ones coming out every year; but the one I’m talking about is a weighted golf training club. When you can literally mimic your athletic movement with resistance, you stand the make the biggest improvement…and quickly.

The goal of most strength coaches and trainers is to come up with exercises that closely resemble that particular athletic movement, but with some for of resistance. It could be handweights (dumbbells), medicine balls, tubing, or even a stability ball.

The direct impact on a golfers swing using a golf training club is an almost immediate increase in driving distance. This is because you are training your golf muscles during the movement, through the same (or even bigger) range of motion, with many repetitions.

A secondary benefit of using a golf training club that’s weighted is promoting an increase in backswing and follow through range of motion. This equates in more power at impact. Golfers are always trying to find ways to improve golf flexibility and power; and this is one way to do it.

Using a golf training club won’t be the cure to all your physical ailments and limitations, but will give you a head start on swinging with higher clubhead speed.

Just think about it! Swinging a golf training club won’t improve hamstring flexibility, nor will it strengthen your lower back. There are many specific areas of the body that don’t get worked when swinging a golf training club.

This is where you would do specific golf exercises, stretches and drills to isolate those weak areas to greatly improve your overall golf performance and prevent future injuries.

Another benefit of a golf training club that’s weighted is a quick warm up before you hit balls at the range or even play. Swinging it 20-30 times will quickly get your golf muscles prepared to hit balls more effectively.

Just beware! When you swing it before practicing or playing, you’ve got to swing your regular clubs, and hit balls with them, to make sure your sequence of motion is correct, before you hit the course.

As you can see, there are many benefits of using a golf training club; so go out and get one. They are a great training aid as part of your ‘off-season’ training program.

--

To begin golf game, your golf practice game or your golf putting practice; study the art of keeping your eye on the golf ball.

When putting it seems to be just natural to let your eyes follow the backswing. To correct this you might turn the golf ball until the brand is on top. Then just keep
your eyes on that.

When putting, think of the golf swing as a pendulum and as you move through this area, strike the golf ball with the sweet spot only. What? Huh?

How do you find the sweet spot? Hold your putter using the thumb and forefinger. You are dangling it now and letting it swing.

With the other forefinger tap the putter blade until the putter head rebounds straight back in perfect alignment. That is the sweet spot for this putter. Some players mark it.

To judge the distance of the backswing try this exercise. Use your right big toe as a guide and take the putter back to your right big toe.

Now, being consistent with your speed accelerate the club head through the ball and watch how far that ball rolls. You
might try this in both wet and dry conditions. This gives you the feel to gauge from there how long the backswing should be for the putt you are facing.

If your distance is shorter, adjust for how far inside the right big toe your swing should be. Adjust outside the toe
for a longer putt. Get a feel for this and you will know how far to take the putter back.

Again, it is a feeling. Accelerate through the ball and make sure your follow through is longer than your backswing.

Concentrate on feeling the putter accelerate through the putt.

In summary; You are trying consciously to get a feel for the art in your golf game. You will succeed. It just takes practice.

--

Correcting a Golf Slice

Slicing the ball is a common problem among golfers. A slice is when the ball travels from one direction to the other [depending on the left or right-handedness of the golfer], generally not in the direction you want it to go. This contrariness of the ball not to go straight toward the hole is the bane of the golfing world.

Correcting a golf slice is not difficult, but may require plenty of practice, patience and more practice.

There are three ways to correct a slice. Hire a golf instructor, purchase some DIY books and/or grab a golfing buddy to follow you around the fairways and tell you what you're doing wrong.

In the meantime, practice these simple guidelines in the backyard or out on the course.

1. Line your feet up correctly - square yourself up with your feet approximately shoulder width apart and the golf ball about half way between them

2. Point your leading shoulder in the direction of the hole. Wherever your shoulder points is where the ball will go

3. Keep your swing even and relaxed, knees slightly bent. Don't try to hit the golf ball too hard, jab at it or over-correct

4. Head should be down and eyes fixed on the ball. Don't look to see where the ball is going, your aim should already be lined up with your body positioning. Lifting your head will destroy your aim

5. Always remember to follow through. When the ball is hit and the club is over your head, then you can look up

Afterward, don't forget to shout your golf buddy some liquid refreshment at the clubhouse. Important tips can be traded and your golf slice discussed with all the minutiae a relaxing cold drink allows.

--

Learning The Correct Golf Instruction Swing Sequence

There are three segments of the golf instruction swing sequence. They are namely the back swing, the down swing and thirdly the impact and follow through.

The first golf instruction swing sequence is the back swing, which is very important to the entire golf swing. This is because if the technique is not correct at this early stage, the other parts of the golf instruction swing sequence will not matter and the result will be a very poor drive. The main focus at this stage of the golf instruction swing sequence should be on body rotation and club and arm extension.

The downswing golf instruction swing sequence actually starts with the legs and hips rather than the arms, which does the actual swinging of the golf club. There should be a clear transfer of body weight from back to front with the knees, thighs and hips all starting to move forward. This is the correct instruction for the downswing segment of the golf swing sequence.

Finally at impact the body weight should be on the outside of the forward heel and the inside of the rear foot. This is the only correct golf instruction for this swing sequence.

Getting the golf instruction swing sequence right is really impossible without golf-specific exercises to condition and strengthen the relevant muscles. What you should remember is that the golf swing is usually a very alien and unnatural movement, which the body violently resists. This is the reason why it is so difficult to get right the golf swing, something that looks so simple and easy to master when you look at it from a distance.

Golf specific exercises are a very effective way of getting the body to adjust so that it will be a lot easier to master the golf instruction swing sequence.

--

The Best Golf Training Aid

The best golf training aid is pretty basic.

But first let us answer a simple question so that we’re all reading from the same page.

What makes the best golf training aid? In other words what qualifies it to be the best?

I believe that the fairest answer to that question is that it must be the sort of golf training aid that has the best impact on your golf game. It has to be the sort of equipment that produces the best results in terms of improvement in your golf game over the shortest period of time possible.

Having laid down the ground rules, or made them clear, let me add that there are a number of different training products that can qualify to be the best golf training aid. But for the purposes of this article, we will focus on only one.

One of the best golf training aids has to be a weighted club. A weighted club has several advantages that makes it so effective in helping many golfers improve their swing technique and thus their golf game.

To start a weighted club enables a golfer to accomplish or practice two different aspects of their golf swing at the same time. With the limited time most golfers seem to have, this has got to be the most favored plus point that this golf training aid that is contention of being the best has.

Firstly because of the additional weight, a golfer is able to exercise and condition the muscles they use for their golf swing. Secondly the weighted club also enables the golfer to work on their swing technique. Right from the set-up to the backswing and follow-through.

Considering what most trainers say is the most common mistake made by poor or bad golfers, the weighted club can go a long way in correcting it. Some experts in golf training say that the most common mistake made on the course is golfers trying to hit the ball as hard as possible. This not only causes tense muscles and the opposite in results, but it can also quite easily result in injury.

A weighted club will help condition and strengthen muscles so that the golf swing is executed in a more relaxed and yet extremely powerful manner, which is bound to produce the best results.

Despite the fact that there are so many different types of equipment, challenging the weighted club for the title of the best golf training aid is not easy.

--

Flexibility Exercise For Golf

Flexibility exercise for golf is a critical component to performing a repeatable, powerful, and mechanically sound golf swing. Senior golfers are the prime target to benefit the most from flexibility exercise for golf. With a declining level of both flexibility and strength, the muscles of the senior golfers are not as pliable and responsive to the physical demands of the golf swing.

The golf swing requires a higher level of flexibility to produce maximum power. Turning your upper body (shoulders) 90 degrees, while maintaining less than half that with your hip turn takes a tremendous amount of dynamic strength and flexibility.

It always surprises me when I speak to a golfer and really spell it out to them. I’ll even go through the swing visually and explain and certain points where physical restrictions can ruin your golf swing. I think the combination of my showing the golfer and explaining it really hits home for them.

It’s tough via an article like this, or any of my websites to get the golfer to understand these physical demands on flexibility (and strength). I can, and will do my best to always explain it in a way that gives you a good visual.

The sooner you realize flexibility exercise for golf is a necessity, the sooner you will see improvement. I’ve been fortunate enough to experience total “golf transformations” with the golfers I’ve worked with.

Testing them before they started, on backswing range; follow through range; initial posture set up and restrictions: I’ve seen miraculous results with golfers. The senior golfers are the ones who see the biggest improvement. That’s mostly based on their initial level of fitness when they started.

That’s why I always tell golfers I come intact with…”it’s NEVER too late!” Never! Everyday that goes by is another day you’ll have wished you would have started. Don’t let one more day go by. Get started right away!

Now…to define flexibility exercise for golf you just need to take a look at the golf swing. Get in your golf posture right now, and bring the swing down into phases. Imagine taking a club back just a couple of feet.

Where do you feel the tension so far?

If you’re really paying attention to your body, you will feel the back of your legs (hamstrings), your left hip, the back of your left arm, and even your lower back. This is if you are a right-handed golfer.

Now take it back further. Where do you feel it now?

You’ll start feeling tension in your right shoulder, your core (from rotating), more in your upper left back muscle and shoulder.

Isn’t it amazing to slow the swing down and realize how restricted you are? It’s a wake-up call to embark in flexibility exercise for golf right now.

I don’t want to spend 5 more pages going through the entire swing, but hopefully you get the idea of the muscles that need to be stretched regularly to release the tension in your golf swing and improve the power you can produce.

The key now, is to start stretching those ‘golf muscles’ we just talked about. Get back in your posture, make a partial swing and stop. Take that position just a little farther and hold for 15 seconds. You can literally do this throughout the entire swing. This is called static (holding) stretching. You will definitely want to incorporate some dynamic (moving) stretching as well.

I hope you new realize the importance of flexibility exercise for golf.

--

Understanding The Physics Of The Golf Swing

Some golf players have been able to increase their game tremendously by studying the physics of the golf swing…by capturing and analyzing the biomechanics of their golf swing on video.

Biomechanics or Motion Capture Technology (MOCAP) is the mechanical analysis of body motion. Studying and understanding the physics of golf swing by analyzing the biomechanics of your swing can help improve your golf game. This is usually achieved with the help of high speed video technology.

The fact is that it is not always very easy to identify specific problems for correction in the golf swing. However if the physics of the golf swing is clearly captured and studied, it makes everything a lot easier and the correct improvements can be quickly carried out.

Actually one of the most effective correctional techniques these days is the use of special conditioning and golf-specific endurance exercises. The exercise work miracles in strengthening the muscles being used in specific stages of the golf swing, making correction extremely simple after a careful study of the physics of the golf swing.

After all it is widely accepted that the correct physics of the golf swing is a complex, awkward movement that is far from being natural for the body and which one can only get right through constant practice and exercise and conditioning specific to golf and designed to perfect the physics of your golf swing.

The proper or perfect golf swing is really a study in physics. Starting from the motion to the impact and flight of the ball through the air.
