With the advent of online flight reservation, flights booking in India increased dramatically, acting like catalyst in a market dominated by the state-owned carrier, Indian Airlines (now Indian). With the repealing of the Air Corporations Act of 1953, Jet Airways showed the way, gaining scheduled airline status in January 1994. This opened the door for a new breed of domestic airlines, such as Air Sahara, and many others. Online flight reservation - with its wide-reaching connectivity, speed, as well as reliability - enabled airlines and ticketing agents to better communicate, and connected the consumer directly with the airline. This allowed airlines to correctly assess the burgeoning demand for domestic air-travel, resulting in the offering a larger number of flights across more destinations in India, for both business and leisure travelers. Ticketing-booking and management software such as Abacus, and international organisations like International Air Transport Association (IATA), further accelerated the process, providing quick, direct and reliable booking of flight tickets across an array of airlines in the world.

At present, there are over 11 major domestic airlines in India, together providing a vast network of flights across hundreds of destinations in India at economical rates. These include full service airlines such as Air India (India's national flag carrier), Indian (India's domestic flag carrier), Jet Airways (market leader), Kingfisher Airlines (UB owned airlines), Jagson Airlines (Pioneer of Air Taxi operations), MDLR Airlines (quality regional air service) and Alliance Air (state-owned), as well as cheap airlines like Air Deccan (India's first low-cost carrier), GoAir, IndiGo Airlines, JetLite (Jet Airways owned subsidiary), Spicejet Airlines, and Kingfisher Red (low cost subsidiary of Kingfisher Airlines).

India's first low-cost carrier was Simplifly Deccan or Air Deccan, and is now known as Kingfisher Red. Air Deccan was formed in 2003, successfully capturing a hitherto untapped segment of the market, offering airfares that were level with railway prices. Air Deccan did all this with the vision to empower the Indian traveller, offering him the opportunity to fly at the lowest airfares to a large number of destinations across the country. Air Deccan showed the way for all low-cost carriers to come, such as the immensely successful Spicejet airlines, GoAir IndiGo Airlines, and JetLite. Air Deccan has recently been taken over by the UB Group, and in its new avatar as Kingfisher Red is based out of Bangalore International Airport, along with a secondary hub at Chennai International Airport.

Now you can book flights for all the Indian airlines like Air India, KingFisher, GoIndigo and Paramount Airways online.

--
Abhishek Sinha

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Private jets offer ease of booking, ease of use and luxury travel at a time when commercial airports are becoming crowded and extreme time-wasters.

Private jets are becoming ever more popular and it’s easy to understand why as hiring one has never been so easy. They can be browsed and booked online with a few clicks of your mouse!

Large commercial airports have become difficult to enjoy in recent times. Queues are long and wind confusingly across concourses. Passengers are treated to vigorous safety and security measures, causing delays and discomfort for passengers.

To avoid all this, consider hiring a private jet flight.

In many cases of hiring a private jet you can use a small airport, hopefully located conveniently for you, to avoid these frustrating crowds. The convenience of using smaller landing sites, not burdened by commercial flights is giving private jet hire a great advantage. You won’t have to fight through the traffic that blights main roads. Small airports get you away from the congestion and chaos of a large commercial airport, enabling you to arrive for your private jet flight just half an hour before the plane takes off. Even better, when you have landed you won’t have a frustrating wait for your bags to appear on the carousel; they are right behind you in the plane!

Private jets can provide you with luxury travel and a happy flying experience that you won’t get on a commercial flight. Your journey is planned for your convenience; you go straight to your seat in your own time, alongside friends or colleagues; with professional staff in attendance.

More and more companies and individuals are beginning to understand the benefits of travelling by private jet. Real benefits outweigh the costs as airports become overcrowded, wasting more precious time. Using a private jet can means you can visit three countries in a day and still be home in time for the evening news on TV.

Private jets provide ease of use. All you have to do is to turn up. If you are looking for luxury travel want safety and quality of service without the hassle that accompanies commercial flights, then a private jet is for you.

--
money and car enthusiast.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

What? Wireless air travel? Yeah, It's coming soon

The Ability to Use Wireless Technology during Air Travel – It’s on Its Way

In early 2007, OnAir will arrive. OnAir is a service that uses satellite technology to enable air travel passengers to use wireless devices such as mobile phones, Internet connections from computers and Blackberries during a flight. The debate over the use of wireless technology during flight has been going on for years, and now that it’s about to happen, the debate is likely to heat up.

First of all, you should know that the first wave of this will not be happening on US flights. Airbus, the plane manufacturer who is creating this technology, is selling it to AirFrance. AirFrance is expected to have the service available to passengers in early 2007. Whether passengers will have to pay for the service like they pay for headphones for a movie is not known yet. Two other airlines, the British airline bmi and TAP Air Portugal are both considering using OnAir, but nothing has been finalized, yet.

So what is the debate all about? Who wouldn’t want the convenience of using their cell phone during a long flight, getting important e-mails on their Blackberry or having the luxury of surfing the Internet to pass the time? Apparently, lots of people and for some very valid reasons.

The Safety Consideration

There has been an ongoing concern that the use of mobile phones (cell phones to us Americans) and other devices that use wireless technology could interfere with the plane’s navigational equipment. Recent technological advances in both navigational equipment and cell phone technology seem to negate this concern, but not everyone is convinced. There is concern that the navigational equipment on older planes may still be affected.

The Mobile Phone Debate

Okay, suppose the safety issue is taken care of and there is no concern that wireless communications technology will interfere with the plane’s navigational equipment. What objection is there to the use of mobile phone’s during a flight?

Surveys have shown that the majority of air travelers are against the use of mobile phones on an airplane because it would be downright annoying to sit next to someone who is receiving and making phone calls for hours on a flight. They imagine being stuck between two incessant talkers.

Common sense would seem to tell you that people wouldn’t really be so inconsiderate as to have hour’s long conversations on their mobile phone during a flight. But experience has shown us when it comes to mobile phones, most people loose their common sense. People will hold loud personal conversations in restaurants and grocery stores and on buses. They will drive using a handheld mobile phone even states where it has been made illegal. So does anyone really believe that people will use common sense and consideration during air travel? Not really.

It’s easy to see the scenario. Business people who intend to be considerate will receive what they deem to be a very important business call and end up talking longer than they expected. Or, a mom who just wants to check on her children for a minute will end up having to chat with each one of them before she can hang up.

It’s no wonder that air travel passengers are concerned that the use of mobile phones will become an annoyance during flights. They already are an annoyance down on the ground. Another concern some air travelers have will be the tension that all of this annoyance will create, perhaps making already jittery flyers more frustrated and pushing them over the edge.

Some people are already nervous just about flying. Add a cramped, overcrowded plane to the mix, the constant threat of terrorism, the restrictions on what can be carried on, and now the addition of an inconsiderate mobile phone user sitting right next to that nervous flyer, and someone might just snap.

What about Internet connection?

Travelers aren’t as adamantly against the use of Internet connections for computers and pda’s such as Blackberrys. Those devices are quiet. Many passengers already use their laptop computers on a flight; it’s just not connected to the Internet when they use it. Being able to send and receive e-mail messages while on a flight could be convenient to most people, particularly business travelers. There doesn’t seem to be much of a debate over these devices as long as safety is not a concern.

What Can be Done?

When should you start being concerned with this issue? As of right now, US carriers don’t seem to be considering using OnAir or any service like it. A report on MSN Travel said that the airlines that they asked – AirTran, Spirit, and US Airways – all said that they have heard their passengers say they don’t want mobile phones used on planes and are against adding the services. However, the question is, if these services do catch on in Europe and prove to be a money maker for the carriers who use it, will the US carriers jump on board? In an era of shrinking profits, will they be able to resist?

So if the trial that AirFrance is giving OnAir proves to be successful and the US carriers jump on board, what can be done to make sure that mobile phone usage does not become a problem on board?

One solution is to have no cell phone usage times. Perhaps next to the little light above your seat that lets you know if you need to have your seat belt fastened or not, there could be another light that lets you know if it’s the proper time to use your cell phone or not. Cell phone time could be restricted on long flights and on flights that are overnight when most people would want to sleep.

Another solution is to give the crew the ability to disable the voice function on devices during restricted times. During those times text messaging and e-mailing would be allowed, but talking would be disabled.

--
This article on wireless technology and other travel information can be found at daily
air travel

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Becoming an Aircraft Mechanic

You have made the wonderful decision to pursue a future in aircraft mechanics, right? So, what’s next? Good aircraft mechanics are always in demand because of the growth in the number of new pilots. No airfield can function correctly without aircraft mechanics to keep pilots safe.

The first thing you need to do to become an aircraft mechanic is determine what kind of planes you want to work with. Similar to an automobile mechanic deciding whether he will work on foreign or domestic vehicles (or even farm equipment), you must have a general plan of what you want to do with your mechanic's license. Do you have a desire to work on commercial airliners, small personal aircraft, helicopters, or even military jets? Once you have figured out what your goal is, you can enter an appropriate study program.

Secondly, you should make sure you choose a competent aircraft maintenance school. Schooling prepares you for successfully completing the practical, oral, and written exams required to receive a FAA Mechanic Certificate. However, keep in mind that it is crucial that you enter a school that is right for you. Is a four-year diploma the goal you are after? Then you should attend a four year university, which features a great maintenance program. Degrees in aircraft engineering or aviation management are offered in conjunction with aircraft maintenance programs at many universities. Would you prefer to get a certificate instead of a degree? If so, a program at a private technical school or public community college could be a great choice.

Before entering any program of study, you need to conduct some research on it. As in any field, to succeed in your chosen career after graduation you must find the correct program for you. Certified mechanic schools must offer their students 1,900 class hours at a minimum to meet FAA standards, which are established by law. Coursework in schools normally goes on for 18 to 24 months and prepares students using the tools and equipment that will be used on the job. A good school program will consist of qualified instructors supervising your learning of useful, on-the-job skills. You should be spending at least 80 percent of your time on this practical learning. Opt for a school that is up to date on all the industry-standards so you can become comfortable with how all the modern equipment operates. In the long run, you will not benefit from the use of old tools.

Unlike other subjects you might study, becoming an aircraft mechanic involves a lot more than just attending lectures and passing tests. You will experience dismantling and reconstructing of complete systems, such as the engine, as aircraft mechanics have to completely understand how the aircraft works and how it is built. Students become experts in aircraft repair and maintenance through lecture and practical course combinations, learning all parts of an airplane in aircraft maintenance school.

You won't qualify for your license even after school is completed. In order to take the powerplant or airframe licensing tests, you must have 18 months of supervised work experience, and for the combined A&P test you must have 30 months of work, according to FAA regulations. After your work time is complete, you must either have your work time documented and signed off by a supervising mechanic or obtain from your employer a notarized statement.

You will possess the education and hours of hands on experience required to apply for your license after innumerable long work days experiencing all aspects of aircraft. You should be proud of that license; it makes you the most important person on the airfield. Lives are at stake every day, and they are counting on your expertise. Therefore, excel and take pleasure in your selected profession.

--
James Bunter is an avid aviator who knows the importance of finding a good aircraft mechanic. He needs mechanical work done on his plane, he goes to TGH Aviation. TGH has avionics mechanics who do aircraft instrument, as well as certified A&P mechanics who can tackle any type of problem. These men work hard and carefully, knowing that your life is in their hands.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Aviation - How To Succeed

History

Aviation refers to the activities involving aircraft, including the people, various support, operational and manufacturing organisations, and regulatory bodies associated with them.

Many individuals and societies have built devices with the aim of being able to travel through the air. Such manifestations range from the earliest projectiles, such as stones and spears, to more sophisticated, buoyant or aerodynamic structures, such as the mechanical pigeon of Archytas in Ancient Greece, the boomerang in Australia, the hot air Kongming lantern, and kites.

There are ancient tales of human flight, such as the fanciful story of Icarus, to the more credible claims of short-distance human flights, such as a kite flight by Yuan Haungtou in China, and the parachute flight and controlled glider flight of Armen Firman.

The true age of aviation began in 1783. Up to then, attempts had involved machines linked to the ground by ropes. However, this represented the first untethered manned flight, in a hot air balloon, designed by the Montgolfier brothers.

Since balloons had the limitation of being only able to travel downwind, then it was quickly realised that a steerable, or dirigible, balloon was required. The challenge was taken up by Jean Pierre Blanchard who, in 1784, flew the first human-powered steerable balloon. Then, in 1785, he went one step further by crossing the English Channel in one.

These machines were subsequently developed further, with such innovations as machine-powered propulsion, in 1852, the addition of rigid frames in 1896, and improved speed and maneuverability by 1901.

Whilst there are many conflicting claims with regards the earliest powered flight, the consensus is the 1903 flight by the Wright brothers. However, this aircraft was impractical to fly for more than a short distance due to severe control problems.

The introduction of ailerons made aircraft much easier to handle, and only a decade later, World War 1 powered aircraft had become practical solutions for reconnaissance, artillery spotting, and even attacks against ground positions.

Soon, as they developed into larger and more reliable machines, aircraft had begun to transport people and cargo. In contrast to small non-rigid blimps, which are airships without an internal supporting framework or keel, giant rigid airships became the first aircraft to transport passengers and cargo over great distances.

The best known aircraft of this type were manufactured by the German Zeppelin company. Probably the best known and most successful Zeppelin airship was the Graf Zeppelin which flew over a million miles, including an around-the-world flight in 1929. However, as airplane design advanced, the dominant position of the Zeppelins over the aircraft of the period, even though they had a range of only a few hundred miles, was steadily being eroded.

The "Golden Age" of the airships finally ended, on June 6, 1937, when the Hindenburg caught fire, killing 36 people, whilst it was in the process of landing. Even today, there is no clear evidence to suggest the cause of the conflagration.

Although periodic attempts have been made to revive their use, the efforts have mostly been in vain, and limited to niche applications. Could the fate of the Hindenburg be a contributing factor?

--
Peter Radford writes Articles with Websites on a range of subjects, under the heading: Subject - How To Succeed. Aviation Articles cover Background, Civil, Military, Aircraft Types, Air Traffic Control.
Many times I used the airport parking facilities at Aberdeen airport if I had to catch a flight out there to attend business meetings. Every time I parked my car at one of the parking firm’s over there. It is not exactly cheap to park your car at Aberdeen Airport itself unless you can afford the expensive short stay rate. There are much more economical options available which I found using the internet, which is simple and quick, and having used most services I’m not really bragging when I conclude that by now I am a specialist. Telling you my experiences might be useful.

I have honestly tried all sorts of other options in terms of off-site Parking at Aberdeen airport. I’ve experienced mixed results. All the car parks are well-secured and man patrolled and really professionally run. However, when the day ends it is most important how much time you have before your airplane leaves and which county you are coming from. Parking admission varies accordingly.

The smoothest option, if you really want to make it comfortable for yourself is the chauffeured parking option. All you have to do is to drive your vehicle up to the airport, take your belongings out and let a representative move your car away. You just have to call them when you return and they will be waiting for you! How much easier can it get? Aberdeen Airport Meet and Greet and Aberdeen Airpark Parking are the firms which offer this extremely comfortable service – but please remember that their rates are a bit more expensive.

The closest parking facilities to Aberdeen airport are Aberdeen Airport Meet and Greet (just two miles, five minutes), and Aberdeen Airpark Parking (two miles, about five minutes), but it might happen sometimes you loose about ten minutes while waiting for a shuttle bus to arrive. The car park runs a shuttle service to the airport/car park on demand. The duration of the trip is just a few minutes.

Both of the facility’s services are kind alike parking at Aberdeen airport. Each time I had to fly out of Aberdeen I have been back to Aberdeen Airpark Parking. The companies are reliable and efficient and do not waste time on of paperwork to fill in. Returning isn’t very difficult as well, no long waiting or problems getting your car out. It might occur that something they ask if they can keep your car key so they can move it if necessary, which is no hassle for me.

I guess it really has to do with knowing the area or not, the parking service might be hard to locate, when approaching from a certain destination one but quite difficult when coming from the opposite way. For sure the rate you have to pay is a consideration too. The cheapest parking spaces can be found the furthest away so you should arrive at the facility with considerable time the check in for your flight. Using the valet parking service is without a doubt the best thing to do as it will give you peace of mind and additionally it is incredibly convenient.

The best advice I can give travellers is to pre-book your parking space online. Today the internet service is reliable, easy and efficient, and usually it will save you some money too! There is absolutely no reason to distrust the online services and particularly the aggregated ones offer the most lucrative deals across all the available options. All in all, online booking is guaranteed trouble-free. Below are several of the most reputed and well-established airport parking services for your benefit.

--
Andy Burrows is a travel writer who has used Aberdeen airport on several occasions and recommends the following online booking
Convenient online airport parking at Aberdeen
Immediate cover on Travel insurance

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

On September 20, an Air Combat Command RQ-4A Global Hawk unmanned aircraft system from the 9th Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base crossed the Atlantic with the help of Navy officials. The flight from Patuxent River Naval Air Station to Southwest Asia took 19 hours. Air Force and Navy officials worked side by side in order to save time and resources.

Airman 1st Class Matthew Milles, an avionics specialist, said, “The Navy has all of the supplies that we have, plus contracted support. It's a lot easier than just going to a remote location. Working hand in hand with the Navy moves the plane faster to the deployed location.”

Going east has its own significance and also shows that the Air Force is committed to providing global vigilance, reach and power in the future by exploring new options.

“Going this direction, specifically allows us to cut out a lot of different stops in a lot of different areas,” stated ACC Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Division chief Col. George Zaniewski. “Overall, it gets the aircraft over into the area of responsibility much easier, and more importantly than that, it allows us to work with the Navy, who will be doing more and more in the Global Hawk environment.

“Specifically for the Global Hawk, we are getting more and more into maritime environments, so we are going to be able to work with the Navy much more than we ever have.”

The Global Hawk's trans-Atlantic flight is just the beginning of an increased relationship between the Air Force and the Navy. It is also a step toward the chief of staff's initiative to increase unmanned aircraft system capacity for the joint flight.

Col. Zaniewski added, “What I hope for the future is that it becomes one common way... that we work with all our sister services, to where we can streamline both the acquisition process, but also the operational process.”

Working with another service may not always be easy, but the Patuxent River NAS mission was a win-win for both the Air Force and the Navy.

“There is a bit of a different language, different process, but overall we are still the same airframe,” stated Navy Lt. Cmdr. John Tracey, the Naval Global Hawk project officer. “We are kind of the smaller, kid brother of the Global Hawk community, so it's nice to work with everybody else.”

--

Source: community.warplanes.com

Skye Lanse is an avid aviation fan who loves to spend her free time reading about aircraft and collecting scale model planes.

Warplanes.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com
