Egypt Will Soon Announce DNA Test Results of King Tut

Egypt's antiquities department will soon reveal the DNA test results from the young Pharoah Tutankhamun, the world's most famous ancient king, in a hope to solve lingering mysteries over his lineage. The results of DNA tests and CAT scans will be announced on February 17th by archaeology chief Zahi Hawass, and will be compared to results from Tutankamun's possible grandfather, King Amenhotep lll.

The tests, which are part of a broader program to check the DNA of hundreds of mummies to determine their identities and family relations, have the possibility of helping decode the mystery of Tutankhamun's family lineage. As part of the program, Hawass has ambitious plans for DNA tests on Egyptian mummies, including tests on all royal mummies and nearly two dozen unidentified ones stored in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, and expects that the tests may show that some royal mummies on display are not who archaeologists thought them to be. The task of finding the mummy of Nefertiti, the queen legendary for her beauty, is one of his top goals.

For a long time now Hawass has reject DNA testing on Egyptian mummies by foreign experts. He recently allowed these projects on the condition that they are done exclusively by Egyptians, and consequently, with funding from the Discovery Channel, a $5 million DNA lab was created at the Egyptian museum.

With the identity of Tut's parents not firmly know, some experts believe he is the son of Akhenaten and one of his queens, Kiya. But some believe he is the son of a pharaoh who followed Akhenaten and was lesser known. Akhenaten is well known as the pharaoh of the 18th dynasty who tried to introduce monotheism to Egypt. Tutankhamun was one of the last kings of the 18th Dynasty and ruled during a tumoil-filled period when monotheism was ended and powers were returned to priests of Egypt's deities.

The DNA Identity Testing Center of Bio-Synthesis Inc., headquartered in Lewisville, Texas, is the global leader in DNA testing including, Paternity, Maternity, Siblingship, Avuncularity, Grandparentage, and Forensic Samples, in both Private and Legal Cases since 1995.
