Let me first tell you why dissertation layouts are so important?

It is the first thing your supervisor will notice in your thesis and will provide him a clear idea on how professional your approach is toward the field you will work for. It is a predefined idea on how you will jot down your thesis. There are certain requirements of writing a thesis ordained by your university that you have to comply with otherwise you might get penalized and lose your precious degree on time.

High quality standards are strictly followed by the university indicating the level of research work it is promoting and also lends a helping hand in building a good reputation of a university. This is why; dissertations layout is given top priority to ensure a flawless thesis in the end.

It is thus mentioned in a comprehensive style guide provided to the student by their supervisors. Some of the basic elements will include:

1-Margins width
2-Quality of the paper
3-Line spacing
4-Fonts style and size
5-Method of binding
6-Numbering
7-Words count

Due to such an advanced technology, there are very few chances of the students to fail to comply with the preceding rules.

How to structure a layout?

Correct way to come up with the outskirts of thesis in terms of structure is clearly mentioned in the style guide provided by thesis supervisor. However, if you are still facing confusion then you can consult the suggestions given below.

Title page:

Title page as the name indicates will comprise of the thesis topic in the first place, the degree you are pursuing, submission date and academic institution is name.

Index page:

This is a page where you will correctly position the page numbers of every subject that is used in the dissertation. Make sure you have included every topic comprehensively.

Abstract:

Abstract should never be more than 250 words but that is of course not the standard. Its basically the central idea of entire thesis in a short glimpse, therefore, make it as concise as possible otherwise it will not look like an ideal abstract.

Preface:

Preface is a place where you will acknowledge every person who helped you throughout the writing process and thank them for their valuable contribution because without their help you could not have come up with this project.

Introduction:

As the name indicates, it is a place where you will introduce the subject in a clear and concise way. The greatest part of an introduction is a thesis statement which is short statement depicting the whole idea of the project. An ideal way to begin an introduction is with the background information about your topic.

Chapters:

The titles will be listed in a sequence while using Arabic numerals.

Conclusion:

It is a recap of your project that should not be more than a paragraph ideally but at the end of the day, it depends on how long your project was. Conclusion should also reconnect with the introductions and restate the thesis statement so as to remind a reader about what was the core subject of your project. Again, depending on the need, you may mention some recommendations for future research work in the same context.

Appendices:

Appendices will consist of all the complimentary information which you did not provide in the project centre.

References:

Reference section will consist of proper documentation of all the resources you used during your project in an alphabetical order.
That was an ideal way on how to layout a dissertation so that students can proudly come up with a flawless dissertation in no time.
