About Writing Services - Need To Know ChecklistSubmitted by conniewatson Tue, 12 Jul 2011
The difficulty in finding good writing services arises from the fact that people who need them usually don't know much about writing or writers. It's not really difficult to identify good writing from bad. But the thing is that there's a whole lot more about professional content writing that buyers don't usually know.
Originality: Even writers for esteemed media outlets like the New York Times have been known to plagiarize. It is therefore essential that every line, paragraph and article be checked for originality. To paraphrase Reagan's famous quote, "Trust your Writer, but Verify with Copyscape". Most writing services already use copyscape to verify every article submitted by their writers. Even so, it won't hurt to let it be known that every article provided will again be verified for authenticity. Range: There are content providers who focus solely on providing content for web sites. Some provide translations, others are experts at blog posts and press releases, and yet others focus on educational material like essays and resumes. The best ones are those that have a wide range and are capable of providing whatever the client needs, whenever required. Rights: The provider needs to hand over to the client full copyrights to all content provided. The client needs to have the right to publish on multiple sites as required and to redistribute. To be noted that the writing service also needs to have the same iron-clad contract with their writers. If not, the contract between the client and the writing service provider is worthless. Search Optimization: Other than lack of time and talent, one of the main reasons that people hire writing services is for the search engines. Writing search optimized articles needs special talents. It requires considerable writing ability and a fair amount of research to produce a page with keywords that don't stand out or break the flow. Message: The primary purpose of hiring a writer to produce content is to convey a message. The article needs to communicate (and sell) a clear story with a beginning, middle and an end. A writer can produce an error free article that is exactly what the client asked for, and yet it may not be what the client needs. The client needs to convey clearly to the writing service what this story and purpose is. The writing service needs to make sure the instructions given to the writer don't leave out this message. The writers need to be talented and experienced enough to recognize and distill the message into the article. Reviews & References: The internet is still the wild west, and it's essential to run some background checks before hiring someone online. It is even more essential for writing services, where there are a lot of new companies and very few trusted brand names. It's a lot safer to google the firm's online reputation and verify references. In summary, it's not enough that the writing service knows how to string together a sentence. The service needs to be professional with a clear idea of their legal obligations. There needs to be originality in the text and the ability to convey the client's message. Each article needs to be able to strike a chord with the audience and hit the charts on the search engines, given the right circumstances.
