CLEP and the Pursuit of an Online Degree Go Hand in Hand

Thanks to the advancement of technology and the wonder of the internet, you can receive a degree from an accredited college without ever stepping foot on campus. In fact, a person from South Dakota can receive a degree all the way from the Pennsylvania Institute of Health and Technology. Of course, these programs are not necessarily cheaper than taking classes the conventional way. This is why utilizing the CLEP program is a great way to get your degree online faster while saving a ton of money.

Hundreds of accredited colleges and universities now offer online degrees. Visit this directory of schools to find various programs from colleges around the country. Many students get degrees in the healthcare, engineering, education, and business fields. Taking CLEP exams helps students succeed in their online studies in two ways: 1) Studying and taking CLEP exams helps them acquire the self-discipline and study skills necessary for successfully completing an online and programs. 2) Getting mandatory general education courses out of the way through CLEP testing opens up the possibility of taking more specific and interesting classes better suited to individual interests.

CLEP, or College-Level Examination Program, is an affordable alternative to taking lower-level college courses. By successfully completing a CLEP exam, a student can earn up to 12 credit hours. Over 2900 colleges and universities are CLEP testing centers and gladly accept credits based on excellent CLEP examination scores. (Specific colleges and universities have different policies. Schools may accept fewer credits from students who achieve lower CLEP exam scores.)

Those who are interested in pursuing online degrees are exactly the type of people who would benefit from the CLEP program. Generally, students who take courses online are older, busy with work or children, and are people who prefer interacting with their studies, their professor, and even other students within the confines of their own home. Because they are generally pressed for time, advancing through an online degree quicker with the help of CLEP exams makes sense. Since there is no urgent timetable for preparing for any one of the 34 available CLEP exams, students can ease their way into a self-motivated system of study.

Students pursuing online degrees are also people who already have job and life experiences under their belt. Knowledge and experience accumulated from pursuing different interests, studies, or careers gives these students an edge when studying for various CLEP exams. For instance, someone who has followed the economy, invested in the stock market, and who enjoys reading the Wall Street Journal will find studying for the CLEP Principles of Macroeconomics exam a summation and helpful review of information they already know.

Because location is not a factor in choosing a school when pursuing an online degree, students can be flexible about choosing a school that recognizes the CLEP program. Students can also shop around and choose the school that will accept the most credits for successful CLEP examination scores, saving themselves thousands of dollars in tuition fees.

The CLEP program and the pursuit of an online degree go hand in hand. Taking CLEP exams helps students save money, study from home at the college of their choice, and allows them to choose classes that are relevant to their future careers and that cater to their individual interests.

Each CLEP test costs $72 to take plus a small administrative fee. CLEP tests cover material taught in lower level or general education college courses.
