Submitted by Anne Jones
Tue, 23 Mar 2010

Truth be told, mothers who chose to abandon their college dreams are in for more struggles in the future. No college diploma means less-paying jobs and that almost always leads to three jobs a day. Though it is not already necessary to say, having a college degree can help single mothers find better employment opportunities and a give them a good fighting chance to make it better in life.

Fortunately, there are college scholarships and college tuition grants reserved solely for single mothers. Given out by institutions that believe in the power of women in shaping the world, these scholarship might be your ticket towards a brighter tomorrow.

Several states in the United States have created academic programs that would either give single mothers tuition free status or reduce their college tuition costs expenses. For instance, the state of Arkansas has the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund, which not only open doors for single mothers, but for single fathers as well.

For single mothers who are 35 years old and above, the Jeannette Rankin Foundation Scholarship program is perhaps the best option for you. Designed not only to create college opportunities for women who weren't able to acquire their college degrees during their younger years, the program itself is an empowerment for women, to make them believe that anything is possible.

The scholarship programs and college tuition grants mentioned are just tip of the iceberg. There are still a number of scholarships out there that are created to provide financial aid to single mothers who want to get more out of life for themselves and their loved ones.
