College Scholarship Options For Disabled Persons

Submitted by Anne Jones
Thu, 25 Mar 2010

There are a significant number of people with disabilities in the United States. And while some of them can perform better than people with no disabilities when it comes to professional work, the options for disabled persons are somewhat limited if they do not have a college degree to their name. And while many are now viewing them as a normal part of the business landscape, the majority of them still struggle if they lack the proper college education.

Fortunately, there are several institutions that offer college scholarships and academic tuition grants for people with disabilities. These groups have been providing a number of opportunities for disabled persons and rightfully so because the disabled minorities are often placed under several minority groups and are overlooked when it comes to educational benefits.

For disabled women who want to achieve higher learning, the Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation offers post-graduate scholarships that are two-fold in their approach. First is to aid disabled women who want to pursue further studies by giving them benefits such as financial grants and reduced college tuition costs. Second is to empower women in general and encourage them to become active members of the community and let them know that women are now a significant minority.

Another organization that offers scholarships and grants to the disabled minority is the Learning Disabilities Association. Apart from the usual financial assistance, the Learning Disabilities Association also aims to help people with learning disabilities like dyslexia and ADHD to overcome their disabilities and become more productive individuals in the society.

You can check other disability organizations and their different educational programs and college tuition grants for the disabled person. If you have a disability, it should not stop you from pursuing your college dreams. Apply for a scholarship and take command of your future.
