College Scholarship Options For People With Hearing Impairments

Submitted by Anne Jones

Having a hearing impairment should not stop you or anyone from fulfilling your dreams of obtaining a college degree. It's a good thing there are academic initiatives created to help those who are riddled with hearing impairments in acquiring their college degrees through college tuition grants and scholarships.

The Gallaudet University is among the premiere schools for the deaf and those who are diagnosed with hearing impediments. Also, a number of the university's college scholarship programs are created to financially aid people who are looking to provide better methods of treatment and education for the deaf people.

The major college tuition grants support various programs such as research, development, and training programs in visual language and learning, easy methods of communication for deaf people as well as technological advancement. The Gallaudet University, together with the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center, has provided a number of college scholarships to people who are looking forward to further enhance the living standards of the deaf and hearing impaired people.

Another well known organization that has funded various scholarships created for the deaf and for their benefit is the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf. Through the said institution, there are now hundreds of deaf people who have excelled in areas usually dominated by people without any disabilities or impairments.

There are still several groups that provide financial aid and college scholarship assistance to deaf members of the society. Included in the list are the Ear Foundation, the Children of Deaf Adults, and the Cochlear Corporation. The latter annually awards the Graeme Clark Scholarship for recipients of Cochlear's implants.
