College Tuition Grants And Scholarships With A Twist

Submitted by Anne Jones

Some things are destined to be bizarre, but college scholarships? Scholarships and college tuition grants have an air of seriousness when you talk about them with your friends and parents. After all, a college scholarship can take you all the way to your college graduation day. But that kind of gravity may not be so existent when some people decided that your knowledge of the Wookie tongue or that you are left-handed makes you worthy of a college scholarship, or at least some college money to get you started.

The Tall Club International offers an annual college tuition grant to their members. And while it is a very generous offer, there is one catch if you want to nail this scholarship. You need to be tall, really tall. For males, you need to stand at least 6'2 and 5'10 if you belong to the female of the species. Aside from your height, you also need to be creative with your writing as you need to submit an essay entitled, "What Being Tall Means to Me."

Granted the most scholarships and academic grants are given based on a student's academic merit. But have you heard of a scholarship being given that is based on a name. If your last name is Van Valkenburg, or has the slightest variation of that name, then perhaps you are eligible to apply for the Van Valkenburg Memorial Scholarship. It's worth $1,000 and not restricted to specific colleges and universities.

If you are left-handed, then you could coast all the way through college. The Frederick and Mary F. Beckley "Left-Handed" Scholarship is dedicated to deserving sophomores, juniors or seniors attending Juniata College. Aside from the proof of financial need, you also need to demonstrate that you are indeed, left-handed.

You can still check other scholarships and college tuition grants with strange, bizarre twists. Of course, you also need to demonstrate that you deserve such strange scholarships if you want it. Now, who said, being Trekkie won't get you anywhere?
