Deciding On An MBA Dissertation Title

Submitted by alicemorrison

Many students struggle when looking at choosing an ideal MBA dissertation topic and are unsure of where to start. This short overview provides MBA students to realise there is much scope for their research paper.

When you are on your MBA course you will be reviewing a number of operational and managerial roles within your organization and writing relevant essays and papers for your course. You will also need to concentrate on the same instance when you are thinking about a dissertation topic and question, as you will need to understand that you will need to choose something that has meaning and relevance to your organization.

Completing a business degree means that you will be able to choose from a range of different topics within your field and also ones that overlap to others. Your department may be able to assist you with choosing your topic and can help you refer to the different areas that you could look at and research within your dissertation.

You should realize that your dissertation is going to be a hard and difficult task for you to complete and thus you should complete a dissertation topic that is going to be of interest to you. It may be that you have a particular area that you want to concentrate on or that you want to learn about and discover some more information on a different part of your organization.

What you should try to resist is higher management dictating which area, department or topic, should be chosen; whilst you should look at including some of their thoughts and thinking, behind your research, you should complete the research paper on a subject that interests you and will challenge your train of thought.

The paper should cover all usual dispensable sections required for discussion in scholarly research and each section should be adapted so that it can be read by non-academics. Therefore, filled with enough theory and conceptualization for other members in your organization to understand. The topic of the research should also reflect a broad overview and prospective towards the elements that you are trying to discover/research.

You should look at how the decisions you make on your chosen topic will affect your ability to conduct primary research with the people you want to. This may be through interviews with experts in your field, industry, or organization. It can also be through primary research conducted with operational employees across your organization too, so your topic may depend on the logistics that you are able to implement to gain views and answers that you can analyze.

From this point, you should be able to plan where your dissertation paper is going to be and how you envision it all fitting together. However, this doesn't mean that you will know what the end result will be or that you can see what is going to happen, but that you can see the building blocks ahead that will form the different parts to your dissertation research paper.

Completing a research paper for your MBA degree will be a complex and challenging part of your time on the course. You will need to understand your own viewpoint and that of the organization, yet you will need to find all of the different blocks and fit them in place. This will then, hopefully, result in a more effective research paper that will influence both yourself and the organization to move forward.
