There are several essay formats that you can choose from when you want to write your essay paper. The most popular one and the one I will focus on is the APA writing format. Unlike the other formats, the APA is the easiest and the most popular to use.

The reason why most student prefer APA format is because the style allows the student to have a flow of ideas in the whole essay. The essay has a simple structure that allows for this. The essay main focus is usually the referencing that must be followed to the letter. There are however many students that forget to follow this strict reference rule. Every quotation and paraphrase in the essay must be well referenced. It is also very important that you mention the names of all the authors that you use in your essay and the years of the books. The format allows you to use a parenthesis in the article but it is limited to only forty words. If the words are more than forty then remember to indent it. You can check the essay examples that are available over the internet or the books to find out how this is done. The block writing is the recommended one in this type of format.

The format best applies where you have used materials from very many authors. If one reference book has been written by more than one author, then you separate them with commas. If you do not want to do this, then you can use the term ´et al´. In most of the cases, you will find that you are using a reference text that has only one author and the name of the institute. In such a scenario, always remember to mention the name of the institution. There are some cases that you will use a journal or a book that does not have an author; in such a case, just mention their names and the years when they were published. You can also include all the multiple sources that you have used; all you need to do is separate the sources using semi colons. You may also have the same author that has written different books; arrange all their books in an alphabetical order. You can just mention the name of the other at the very top and then list all their books that you have used still in alphabetical order.

The format is the easiest to use and this is the reason why so many lecturers advise their students to use it. It is not complex as some people may make you believe; all you need to do is to follow all the rules that the format has set. Remember to always include the header on the essay paper; the header is located on the top right corner of the paper. How you present the paper is also very important. Arrange the paper starting with the header, abstract and so on; the final page should be the reference page or the appendix if you have any.
