The recession has left many experienced people out of work and looking for employment. People with years of practical experience in a particular field are just the sort of people who could be perfect at turning their hand to teaching and sharing their wealth of knowledge and experience with others.

There are currently many teaching jobs available with a shortage of the right candidates, which makes jobs in education appealing to many people.

If you think that teacher jobs might interest you, you can apply to become a teacher by first achieving your QTS (qualified teacher status). This will allow you to find jobs in education in schools in England and Wales. To do this you would normally have to complete your ITT (initial teacher training) which will prepare you for being a qualified teacher.

As there is a shortage of quality teachers in England and Wales, there are many funding options available to train as a teacher. You could be eligible for funding for undergraduate or postgraduate initial teacher training, or you could receive funding for employment based initial teacher training.

There is even a ‘Golden Hello' scheme for new teachers whereby you would receive a taxable lump sum after the completion of your first year in the job. Depending on your subject this could be as high as £5,000 making teacher jobs even more attractive.
