Scholarships And College Tuition Grants For Video Gamers

Submitted by Anne Jones

If you are hardcore gamer who knows the dynamics, aspects, and the fundamentals of game designing and programming, then perhaps you could play your way to getting a college degree. There are various scholarships and college tuition grants dedicated to help game hobbyists to take their passion to the next level.

The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) has created a college tuition scholarship program for future game designers. The Masters of Science in Game Design and Development is RTI's response to the growing market of digital games and the program will provide academic schemes that will grant tuition free status to recipients as well as reduced college tuition costs.

The International Game Developers Association (IGDA), a large global community of game designers and game enthusiasts, provides scholarships and academic assistance to their members who are enrolled full-time in game design and programming degrees. The applicants must also attend the Game Developers Conference prior to application. For women who want to pursue a degree in video game design and creation, there is a scholarship for you. The Karrlin Field Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to help women start their careers as game developers.

Just recently, Reggie Meisler, 19, has been awarded a $60000 Video Game Scholarship by the DigiPen Institute of Technology in Redmond. His creation, the Final Revelation, has been given the first prize by judges against other competing video games.

Most people say that video games are for bums. But who would have thought that being passionate about video games could land you a college degree? If you are a video game buff, then you better raise your passion to new heights and you just might end up a game creator.
