Despite Slowing Sales, Air Conditioning Industry Looking Forward to a Bright Future

According to a report by the Heating, Air conditioning and Refrigeration Distributors International (HARDI) summer 2009's air conditioning sales were like the weather, not so hot. Summer weather and air conditioning sales generally go together in California. When it is hot outside for weeks on end, people need an air conditioning unit which can keep up with the demand. Extended heat during the summer month can also lead to older units burning out. With a more mild summer, these issues don't pop up. Because of this, it isn't much of a surprise that air conditioning sales were down.

Economy, Repairs, and Ecological Reform Creating Buzz

As with everything else recently, some blame falls on the economy. People are currently less willing to replace an aging air conditioner if it isn't completely broken. While this causes a short term problem for the HVAC industry, it isn't a permanent one. Air conditioning units will keep aging, and every year, many will reach the point when they don't work anymore. The bottom line is even if Californians aren't replacing their air conditioning units today, they will have to do it eventually.

Because Californians are more reluctant to replace their air conditioning units the repair rate in California has gone up. Repairs only hold up for so long, so an increase in repairs doesn't mean there will be fewer air conditioning units sold later. A healthy amount of repair work can be good for HVAC companies because it helps them stay in contact with customers and build loyalty during slow periods.

Another factor which can help the HVAC industry down the line is the conversion to the R-410A coolant. The changeover won't be a world changing event, but tax credits could provide enough motivation to encourage Californians to replace their air conditioning unit before it is completely broken.

HVAC School Graduates Looking Forward to the Growth of the Air Conditioning Field

These factors are encouraging to students enrolled in a Southern California Air Conditioning School because it means that soon after graduation there will be a high demand for their services.

It's not too late to get involved in the world of air conditioning repair and maintenance. Many Southern California AC training programs can be completed in 6 months or less. Contact a HVAC school today to find out more information about this growing field.
