It gives shelter to the pedestrians, gives fruits to the birds, its leaves are used as animal fodder; its flowers attract wasps for pollination, it produces special type of rubber and it's the home of many other creepers. The wood and bark of the banyan tree are suitable for making paper, and the roots are often used to make ropes to secure wood bundles. In the Hindu religion also, banyan tree has acquired special space. This tree stands with pride amongst other trees and pulsates a tranquil feeling to the passerby.

Taking the characteristics of this enormous banyan tree as the path illuminator, The Banyan Tree School was established in the Lodhi Institutional Area, Delhi.
