Carbon Footprint is the total set of greenhouse gas emissions caused by an individual, event, product or organization, either directly or indirectly. It is nothing but a measure of the human activities on our environment, particularly climatic change. Carbon footprints are strongly related to the amount of the greenhouse gases produced due to the burning of the fossil fuels in our day-to-day life.
Carbon Footprints are identified as two types, basically the primary footprint and the secondary footprint. The primary Carbon Footprint is the measure of the direct carbon dioxide gas emissions caused due to the burning of the fossil fuels. This also includes transportations and domestic energy consumption. We can control these types of footprints directly. Whereas the secondary Carbon Footprint is the measure of indirect carbon dioxide gas emissions that is caused form the entire lifecycle of the products that we use. For example, the ones that is associated with the manufacture and eventual breakdown. Simply, to say, the more we purchase, the more we do contribute to the emissions on our behalf. The measurement of Carbon Footprints is an influential tool to realize the effects of personal behavior in the process of global warming. Surprisingly, people shocked when they see the amount of carbon dioxide gas released in the atmosphere as a result of their activities. If you personally wish to contribute to control global warming, monitoring your personal Carbon Footprint is very important. Below is a list of simple things that you can do instantly to reduce global warming and hence your footprint. These ideas will cost you no money, but in some cases may save you money improve your health and protect the environment; • Turn off your TV, lights, fans, computer, DVD player, etc when not in use. • Decrease the temperature of water heating setting by up to 2 degrees and it will make significant savings. • Instead of driving to the gym, walk or run. • Defrost your refrigerator regularly. • As soon as your mobile is charged completely, unplug it • Carry out your weekly shopping in a single trip by listing of the required items at once before you go out for shopping • Dry your clothes by hanging them in direct sunlight instead of using a tumble dryer. Turn down the central heating system to at least 2 degrees • Fully load your washing machine and dishwasher to save electricity, water anddetergent powder. These types of tools provide a better idea regarding what is the individual’s impact and what type of lifestyle changes are required.
