In an outdoor environment where the weather can get cold or hot, possible things may occur to outdoor people. When the weather is extremely hot, it may not be advisable to exercise under the heat of the sun as this could cause hyperthermia. A contrary to hyperthermia is hypothermia. This is characterized by a drop in body temperature. People could experience shivering and numbness in some parts of the body, mild confusion, and quick and shallow breathing.

When a person reaches the last stage of hypothermia, he could experience extreme shivering, irregular heartbeats, poor muscle coordination, sluggish thinking and incoherent behavior. Treating hypothermic patients can be made by sheltering and applying gradual heat. Close body contact with a companion and sipping warm sweet liquids can help the patients re-warmed. Hospitalization may be needed to persons that experience moderate or extreme hypothermic condition. Medication should be made by qualified medical personnel.

Meanwhile, hypothermia can be prevented by wearing wool fabric or synthetic clothing. Covering the head could also help prevent a person experience severe shivering. Wearing of dry suits when engaging in water activities particularly scuba diving, snorkeling and kayaking can bring warmth in cold water environment.

Hypothermia education is significantly needed particularly to individuals engaging in outdoor activities. This could help individuals survive an extremely cold environment. Cold weather could be experienced particularly at nighttime in the wild.

Managing the risks that could come in outdoor activities could be a part of hypothermia education and survival training. Individuals should realize that aside from the fearsome creatures and hostile environment, harsh and cold weather condition can also be an adversary in the wild. It would be significant to know the basic and important things of survival skills with regards to hypothermic condition.

Hypothermia education may include information about the condition, causes, signs and symptoms, risk factors, complications, treatment and prevention. It may also involve knowing the stage where medical attendance should be needed.

The signs and symptoms that can be experienced from extreme loss of body heat of the body can be prevented during times of extreme coolness. Survivalists and people prone to extreme adventures should know the benefits of hypothermia education.
