Every single person leaves a carbon footprint. What is a carbon footprint? It is the release or the emission of elements that we release into the world such as carbon dioxide. As these elements are being released, these emissions affect the Earth and produce worse effects on global warming . If you are interested in reducing your carbon footprint and reducing those of others, try to follow these suggestions.
Depending on where you live, sometimes it is necessary for both heating and air conditioning. If you live in an area where the two are not necessary, try to get rid of the system that you do not use or do not be tempted to use it when you do not have to. If it is necessary for both appliances use them sparingly. If you are not going to be home for a few hours or if you are going away for the weekend, why leave these appliances running? No one is enjoying their affects and you are just wasting unnecessary energy. Also there is no need to turn them onto the max. If it is winter do not walk around the house in a t shirt and shorts and say that it is cold. Turn the heat on but wrap yourself up in warm clothing. This way you are helping the Earth and cutting down on your electricity bill.
Something related to the previous suggestion is turning off all appliances that may not be necessary to use. If you are going to the store, even if it will only be five minutes, turn off the television and lights while you are gone. That is five minutes that you have contributed to saving the environment. Turn off the lights that are not in use and use energy saving light bulbs too! If you are bored, try not to turn right to the television, computer or radio; read a book, do some exercises, go running or learn something new, like an arts and craft project. Also if you live by a store, kill two birds with one store. Try walking or running. You will not emit dangerous fumes into the environment and you will be keeping up with your cardio health.
The final suggestion is even though many people do not want to live completely without electricity and energy, one can at lease change electric companies. There are energy companies which are referred to as being "green" energy companies. They are named "green" companies because they use alternative sources to supplying energy such as wind and water rather than nuclear generated power. "Green" companies are very reliable because they use natural elements that are always available.

These are only a few suggestions to reducing one's carbon footprint but as you can see, they are very simple recommendations to follow.
