By Celeste Yates - Green Building Media

Tiffany Tsui is the International Team Leader for Sustainability and Innovation for the DHV design and engineering group. For almost ten years she has been striving to bring knowledge and insight to the Asian market regarding the benefits of becoming ‘green.'

She started her quest at the EMSI, the first international firm providing green building design & consultancy services in China. She managed successfully to introduce the concept of ‘green' buildings to the Chinese real estate developers and companies, initiating the LEED certification process in the region. She was at the forefront of the first LEED projects across China which served as the foundation and model for other companies to go ‘green.' Currently there are over 150 projects registered for LEED in China.

Since 2006 Tiffany moved to DHV and become the team leader for sustainability, working on international business development for the company. She leads the effort to develop integrated solutions and innovative business models for ‘green' buildings and eco-city developments in China and internationally.

This year Tiffany will be presenting "Business Cases of Building Green" at the Green Building Conference 2009, which will be held the 7-8th of July 2009 at the Sandton Convention Centre. The subtitle of her presentation will be "In Good Times and Bad Times - Cross Country of Perspectives and Case Studies."

She will be reviewing the international trends of green building developments with cross country perspectives on the US, China and Europe. Case studies of green building and eco-city developments in China will be used to illustrate the trend of building ‘green' in an emerging economy in a global context. Key lessons and future trends of significance to South Africa will be explored by looking at how MNCs are responding to the ‘green' challenge as well as how effective business and marketing strategies can be used as an integral part of making ‘green' buildings work.

Tiffany will be joined by other leading international speakers such as Emilo Ambasz - Emlio Ambasz Associates, Inc - who will be presenting on "Green Over Grey" and Kam Sing Wong - Director of Sustainable Design from Ronald lu & Partners, presenting on "High Density Sustainable Urban Design: Hong Kong, Mainland China & Beyond."

The Green Building Conference and Exhibition is geared towards architects, engineers, property owners and construction professionals and seeks to provide valuable and applicable insights from a select group of local and international speakers to present on the future of ‘green' building, within the South African scope. The conference hopes to achieve this through case studies, spreading the knowledge on the practise of ‘green' building and giving the latest on national and international trends, technologies and materials available in the green building movement.
