Drug Addition Symptoms and Advice

Submitted by Simmons

It is one that takes over your entire life and has to be dealt with in order for you to live a normal lifestyle again. This article will discuss both some of the symptoms and ways for you to find help to begin getting off of drugs.

The first and major sign that you are suffering from a drug addiction is when you deny it or tell others who confront you that you are in control of what you're doing. Nothing is farther from the truth, for drugs can chemically alter your mind and make you a slave to taking them on a regular basis. If the drugs are the primary concern in your life to the detriment of your job, your family, and daily tasks, then you have a definite sign of a problem. Also, your appearance can be altered in the form of poor dental health, loss of appetite, reduced motivation, and the willingness to do whatever it takes to get the drugs that you need. When you see these signs, you need to get help.

Finding help is not as hard as it may seem, as there are many organizations that are nonprofit that can help you to get on the road to recovery. One of the more well-known is Narcotics Anonymous, which is similar to Alcholics Anonymous. NA will have regular meetings at a predetermined site which are advertised at local places such as a library or community center. These meetings are confidential and there will be people with similar problems to yours who are also trying to get rid of their addictions. Is it an open, supportive environment that will aid you in getting a new start in life. People will often get up and tell their experiences and struggles, and you will be surprised to learn that you are not alone in your fight to be free of drugs. You also may have someone who mentors you through recovery, usually someone who has become clean in the past and can relate to your needs while giving you the advice and support that you require.

If your problem is severe, you may have to be placed in a detox center in order to help you get through the withdrawal symptoms and provide a safe, supportive environment for you to start recovery in. You can be referred by your doctor, and your insurance will help to pay all or some of the costs for your stay. If you do not have insurance, there are many charitable and nonprofit organizations that can offer you help in getting the services that you need.

The first step to getting help us to recognize the signs of drug addiction and admit you have a problem. If you are willing to deal with the problem, the tips discussed above should get you started on finding the help that you need to recover from your addiction.
