Getting Comfortable with Being UncomfortableSubmitted by workingmom Wed, 5 Aug 2009
Note from Melanie
Wow, a lot has happened this last month. As all of you know, I hosted The Spirituality of Wealth Telesummit last week. It was quite the stretch for me personally and professionally. I have spent the last 2 months walking way outside of my comfort zone. I had to learn to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I took risks, made a financial investment, asked for what I wanted and openly shared my story. Because I was willing to step out of my comfort zone, I interviewed 4 amazing women, connected lots of committed healers and found support in unexpected places. I have emerged more mature and more committed to my purpose to help healers and service professionals integrate spirituality into their businesses so they can make a difference in the world while creating a profitable business. I want thank everyone who participated in the telesummit through your interest, support and feedback. Warmly, Melanie PS: A great big "Welcome!" to all the new readers who joined our community in the last two weeks! You're going to love the resources you'll find here to help you shift your mindset and build your business...Enjoy! Feature Article Getting Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable We all want to be comfortable. We go to great lengths to buy comfortable clothing, create comfortable environments, drive comfortable cars and make comfortable decisions. We hang out with the same people, go to the same places and do the same things - all in the name of comfort. We create our comfort zone and are very reluctant to leave. Unfortunately in our business (and in our life) comfort equals stagnation. Alcoholics Annonymous defines insanity as "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result". In order to get different results, you have to do different things. More importantly, if you want to get some place you have never been, then you have to do things you have never done before. That means leaving your safe comfortable nest and stepping out into the possibility of life. If you have a big vision for your business or your life - increase your income, help millions of people, have your art hanging in museums, be able to travel the world and work your business from anywhere - then you have to step out of your comfort zone. Your big vision and your fulfillment of your life's purpose always lie out there - out of the realm of feeling safe and secure. Stepping out of your comfort zone and into your passion and purpose and living your big vision is a hero's journey. No hero ever completed their journey from the comfort of their living room. They have to travel to far away lands, battle evil forces and slay fierce dragons. But along the way the way they also get to see beautiful sights, meet new friends, learn new things, receive unexpected gifts and find out how bright, beautiful and strong they really are. As their world expands, so does their consciousness. They get to do, be and have things they only dreamed about while inside their comfort zone. So, if you are feeling stuck or stagnate in your life, open the door of your comfortable life and step outside. Get uncomfortable and see what possibilities open up for you. Homework: 1. Do something different every day. Drive a different way to work, eat somewhere new, turn off the TV, talk to strangers, wear a bold color. DO something different! 2. Write down your big vision for your business and your life (income level, how many people you serve, where you want to live/travel, how you want your business to run, experiences you want to have) 3. Take 1 step every day that is uncomfortable and moves you toward your goal. Ask for what you want, talk to someone new, market in a different way, make a financial investment in yourself, go to a workshop, consult with a coach. Stretch yourself Take action on your homework - it will help! If you do nothing, nothing will ever change. Let me know how you did! Email me melanie@melanieyost.com
