Getting what you really wantSubmitted by jamesburgess Mon, 11 May 2009
Despite abundant propaganda from parents, religions, governments, and agencies of commerce, each of us can know for ourselves what is suitable for us and what we had better choose to reject. The body knows if something is wrong for us and even before physical discomfort or illness makes it crystal clear, [there] are subtle tells in various places - gut feelings, heart clouds, muscle tension and a dozen other clues that we can learn. The process of getting what you really want begins with clearly rejecting what is not acceptable, and being true and firm about this.
Next we have to expand the horizons of imagination to reach out to new possibilities, to think outside the box, to embrace new ideas, meet new people, learn new skills and be less fixed in our sense of what is suitable and doable. The world is multi-faceted all-encompassing; our own little bit of it has been more limited than it could be and our mind-set of possibility has been blinkered by the boundaries of our small experience. From the wealth of future paths that open before us, some are significantly more attractive than others, because they touch the heart. What we appreciate and value are registered in the feelings we have - of relaxation, of love and, in essence, of 'rightness'. The heart knows that its true path will lead to joy and away from the [ugliness] and bitter pangs of either a drab mediocrity or highly-stressed lifestyle, that seems forced upon us by an unjust system, which we are powerless to overcome. Our life path can be dressed with beauty and peopled with loving friends if we want this with clear focus and passion. Our process of change is a journey. Basically it moves us away from something we feel we must reject towards, and until we arrive at, a position that allows us to say Yes. It is true that the journey from No to Yes requires various other stages - Hello, Thanks, Goodbye, Please and Sorry - and yet the push forward of our Vision was simply an effective tool to move us. The realization of a vision is only ever temporary just as horizon is only ever an illusion that we [travel] towards. In the end we have to learn the skill of how to surrender gracefully to that which we cannot change. Even great warriors surrender to Death.
