Why Can't You Let Go?: Analyzing the Underlying Reasons Why You Are Desperately Hooked on Your ManSubmitted by gonzaga.marco Fri, 12 Dec 2008
He has cut you off from his life completely. When he left, your heart went along with him, leaving you empty and alone in a lifeless shell that is your body. Such is the tragedy when love falls apart between a man and a woman. Contending with the pain of separation due to the strong emotional bonds you have formed with him, you now find yourself helplessly wracked with anxiety and an overwhelming sadness. Rejection has never been easy for anyone to accept, especially if it is from someone they are emotionally adhered to. For lovers who split up, letting go and learning how to move on to a new life without each other is the most formidable demand each party is forced to swallow.
You have girlfriends who had undergone the same dilemma and were able to move on. Although it was hard, they made it through the painful ordeal. But why can't you? What is holding you back from moving on? Why is letting go such a pain for you? Although love cemented your relationship with him, there are other underlying reasons behind it that explain why letting go is so hard for you. He is your knight in shining armor; the prince charming who introduced you to a life filled with wonders; the man you have always dreamed of. Having allowed yourself to indulge in fantasies of spending eternity with him because he is the “one” for you has catapulted your emotional attachment to debilitating heights. The more people fantasize about spending their life with someone, the more emotionally attached they become to him/her. Thus, when the fantasy comes to a close, anxiety, the other face of attachment, takes over. You believe that there is no other man for you. Do not let yourself be cornered by this mentality. Many other people who have had their hearts broken also thought of the same thing but eventually found the right one for them later on. The pain of losing him is severe, but you also have to keep in mind that there are others out there who could love you more than he did and are more deserving of being loved by you in return. You could never have the chance of finding a better relationship. Nor can you find a better man. Letting yourself be governed by this poisonous way of seeing things would only drive you to ruin. Remember that all of us are capable of forming happy relationships. Each of us has the right to be happy with the kind of people who could satisfy our needs. You have shared to much of yourself and your life with him. Emotional attachments are strengthened and deepened by the moments people share with their special someone. Because you have learned to be emotionally and personally intimate with him, imagining how life would be like without him is enough to make you go crazy. Going through with the automatic playback of these memories that would haunt you from time to time after the relationship has ended is the most difficult part of learning to get over him. But in due time, given that you no longer hold out for him, thinking that there is a chance for your love story to have a continuation, your hurt feelings would wane until the pain disappears. Looking on the bright side, since you have learned how to be emotionally intimate with him, you can now have a better chance of forming a deeper and better intimate relationship with somebody else.
