One of the great on-going debates in the field of Psychology centers around what happens to those habits that no longer control us because we were able to reverse or replace them. I subscribe to the position of Gary Craig, founder of the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). He proposes that the old habits never depart once they have entered the subconscious mind. They kind of fade into the background and become less active or inactive. Given the opportunity, however, they will fully re-assert themselves and derail your attempts at mastering your mind power just as a garden will be re-claimed by useless weeds, grasses, and shrubs if not frequently cultivated.

I agree with the position of Mr. Craig. Based on the preponderance of information coming from numerous hypnosis experiments, especially those experiments in the area of age regression, I believe the evidence is clear. In some instances, hypnotists have succeeded in regressing patients to a time when they were still in the womb, and the hypnotists were able to elicit clear memories of that time from the patients.

Please remember that even though this and other articles may point to the negative side of habits, there are many habits that are extremely helpful to you. We all have a multitude of them to which we have become slaves. Since that is the case, why not follow the advice of Og Mandino (author of The Greatest Salesman In The World), if we are going to be slave to habits, commit to forming good habits and become their slave! Good habits are those that support you in your efforts to be, do, and have what you desire.

Even though you may have many habits that do not serve you well, the good news is habits can be changed or replaced! Even the most recalcitrant habit cannot resist the power of a commitment to remove it from its control over your behavior and your life. One of the best ways to weaken the power of unwanted habits is stop spending so much time living in the past. You tend to give them your emotional energy and strengthen them when you mentally re-live past events over and over in which the various habits were involved.

I know that it might seem unfair to you that you have to put so much work into changing habitual behavior that you had very little to do with (consciously) developing, but those are the cards you and 95% of the population have been dealt. The questions I put before you is: What are you now going to do about your situation? Are you going to do nothing and continue to have the same kinds of life experiences day after day, year after year, or are you going to make a commitment to change the habits that need to be changed in order to experience more of what you want from life?

This I know for sure. You can claim or re-claim control of your own mind power. You are the most miraculous of all living beings on earth. You are the owner of a mind that is so stupendous, that as you truly begin mastering your mind power and consciously using it, there is no dream that you can dream that you cannot achieve.
