Stay motivated when setbacks occurs

How do you deal with life's curve balls? What do you do when your life's path suddenly takes a nasty turn and throws you into a ditch? Do you pick yourself up grumbling or perhaps just stay down? Do you think about how unfair it is, or do you see it as an opportunity for you to learn how to take the twists and turns better for the next time around?

Seeing everything that happens in your life as an opportunity does not change what happens to you, but it can give you a much better perspective on things. It's a different way of looking at the same situation but with a more positive outlook and we all know that we can achieve a lot more in life when we are being an optimist and not a pessimist.

Yet we constantly find ourselves spending our time complaining about things that go wrong. We didn't get the job we had hoped for, we missed out on being able a go to the college of our choice so we end moping around for days.

We sometimes get so self-absorbed in our own misery that we fail to see the opportunities that are presented in each and every situation. We tend to focus on the wrong things such as what a hassle everything is and end up spending the whole day complaining about how bad things are in our life rather then rising up to the challenge.

Changing your mindset may not make much of a difference to what happened to you. You will still be hungry at lunch time, you might still be late for lunch, you will still have missed out on the sales commission and have the possibility of losing your job and you will certainly still have that bruise from the cyclist.

The only thing that will change is how you experience this. It might seem difficult to put a positive spin on everything happening in your life. We are generally so used to grumbling about things going wrong in our lives that we find it quite tiring and strenuous to be positive all the time.

Yet, wouldn't it be easier to cope with these setbacks if one were to see them in a more positive light rather than by complaining all the time? It's not even difficult to do. Just change your attitude to one of optimism from pessimism. Instead of seeing the bad all the time, see something good happening to you, even if it's a cyclist knocking you down. The easiest way to do this is learning how to laugh at your self.

It makes life so much more interesting to live when you learn how to meet your setbacks and challenges with a sense of humor. Learn how to lighten up in life and you'll soon be floating on cloud nine.
