Realizing Our Self-WorthSubmitted by gonzaga.marco Wed, 17 Dec 2008
Have you ever felt so small in your life?
Since none of us are born into this world clothed, all of us had to contend with learning the ropes of living the hard way: overcoming our inherent feelings of inferiority by realizing our potentials without having to step on other people's toes. Sounds easy? Nope. Seeing our true worth as a person and where we really stand in the big wide world can be so daunting that it is hardly surprising why there are some of us who cannot help but be overwhelmed by it all. Developing a healthy self-image and self-esteem when we are surrounded by seemingly impeccable people can be quite a hefty challenge. Having to confront and handle this issue can make us feel small or worse, downright worthless. Dealing with the anxiety and sadness that comes with this dilemma, we could either end up finding our true self-worth or being buried deeper into our feelings of worthlessness, which eventually develops into an inferiority complex if ignored. And once our feelings of inadequacy balloons into an inferiority complex, we instantaneously run the risk of coming down with depression. Confronting depression due to an inferiority complex necessitates us to face the heart of the matter: our very poor self-image. In doing so, it is imperative that we deal with the issue of our having a very low self-esteem, which goes hand in hand with our poor self-image. Raising our self-esteem means improving our self-image and vice-versa. Consequentially, it leads to eradicating our notions of inferiority. Below are some helpful recommendations to help us see ourselves in a better light. An accomplishment is an accomplishment regardless of how insignificant it may be. We must reward ourselves by celebrating every one of them. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. We should instead focus and develop our strengths than mope in a corner over our weaknesses. We deserve to have fun and enjoy ourselves. Engaging in activities we love is something we owe ourselves. There is nothing embarrassing about asking for affection, for we all need it. Hence, asking for it from our loved ones during times of need poses no harm to anyone. We should value our health. In doing so, we must see to it that we eat properly and exercise regularly. We are only human that is why we falter every once so often. We should accept this fact and learn to forgive ourselves for our mistakes.
