Sixth Sense - Your True ConnectionSubmitted by Keith Ward Sun, 8 Feb 2009
We all know the five senses; smell, touch, hearing, vision and tasting. However, our sixth sense or the sense of intuition is perhaps more important and crucial than all of these put together. Our sixth sense not only protects us at times but also helps us to distinguish between the right and the wrong.
Have you ever gone to a place where you felt things were not right and came away and then you were glad that you did? Have you ever heard the phone ring and known the caller before actually picking up the phone? Has it ever happened with you that you knew what the person was going to say before they actually said it? Everybody has had these instances; sixth sense is what helps us survive in situations. It is what helps us decide our choices when we encounter a fork in our lives or situations. But, what is this sixth sense? Scientifically speaking, the sixth sense is also known as Extra Sensory Perception or ESP which tells us things which may not have a basis in fact but is actually true. The "hunches" or the "gut feeling" that all of us get or have felt at one point or the other is also a part of the sixth sense. Where does this sixth sense come from? Scientists have established that most of our brain forms our subconscious brain while only 1/3 of our brain is actually the conscious brain. The sixth sense is a part of that subconscious mind which in turn is the part of our soul. Philosophers believe that we as souls are a part of the universe hence hold the knowledge of everything. However, this knowledge is not remembered when we take bodies. But sometimes we get a glimpse of this knowledge when we need it; this is known as the sixth sense. There are some people like psychics and clairvoyants who have a sharper sixth sense and can tune themselves to people and the universe and pick up vibrations. Earlier people with this kind of ability were branded as witches and devils and punished. Now a day's people have started accepting ESP as a part of their daily lives. How can you develop sixth sense: We all have a sixth sense because without it no one can survive. However, to further hone your sixth sense, here are a few exercises which can help: o Meditation: Meditation is perhaps one of the best ways to develop sixth sense. All you need to do is choose a quiet place and sit comfortably, then focus all your attention on your breath. Calm your mind and just observe your thoughts. Once your breath is calm, your thoughts will also just flutter away, this is a state where you will get various insights and answers. o Listen to your gut feeling more often: Most of us don't really take time to listen to that inner voice. Pay attention to your hunches and gut feelings, the more you listen to your intuition, the sharper it will become.
