2.1 Million Cribs Recalled Due to Entrapment and Suffocation Injuries

Submitted by scadbury
Mon, 30 Nov 2009

A massive crib recall was issued Nov. 24, 2009 due to a manufacturing defect that could cause infant entrapment and suffocation injuries. The crib recall involves more than 2.1 million Stork Craft drop-side cribs, including more than 145,000 Stork Craft drop-side cribs with a Fisher Price logo. Stork Craft Manufacturing, Inc., is based in British Columbia, Canada. The defective cribs have been sold in both the United States and in Canada.

110 Child Injuries Linked to Recalled Cribs

To date, the defective cribs have been linked to 110 incidents of drop-side detachment — 67 incidents occurred in the U.S. and 43 occurred in Canada. Of these incidents, 15 resulted in infant entrapment, four of which resulted in suffocation. Twenty of the incidents involved falls from the cribs, which resulted in a range of injuries, from bumps and bruises to concussions and other serious injuries.

Crib Recall Based on Manufacturing Defect

The crib recall is based on a manufacturing defect found only in the cribs with the drop-side. Defects involve broken, loose or missing plastic drop-side hardware, metal spring strips and/or screws. Some of the recalled cribs may have hardware installed upside-down.

Do You Own a Recalled Crib?

If you are trying to figure out whether you have a recalled crib, here are some things to look for. The recall includes Stork Craft cribs with manufacturing and distribution dates between January 1993 and October 2009 and Stork Craft cribs with a Fisher Price logo with manufacturing and distribution dates between October 1997 and December 2004.
The model number, crib name, manufacturing date and company's name, address and contact information can be found on the assembly instruction sheet attached to the mattress' support board. The defective cribs were sold in several stores such as Wal-Mart, Sears, JC Penny, Kmart and online at Target.com, Babiesrus.com, Costco.com, and more. For a complete list, contact Stork Craft at (877) 274-0277 or online at www.storkcraft.com

Has Your Child Been Injured?

If your child has been harmed by a recalled crib or another product, it is important to know that you have rights. Manufacturing companies such as Stork Craft have a responsibility to American consumers and should be held accountable for injuries caused by defective products. For information about your infant's injury speak with a child injury lawyer that has extensive experience in handling injury and wrongful death cases involving recalled products.
