Colored diamonds are the diamonds which are very hard to find. These are usually found in colors such as pink, blue, black, orange, or purple. These diamonds are very expensive because they are extremely rare. In addition, they are difficult to find in their pure color.

Grading of a gem is done according to the intensity of its color. Sometimes, a gem is enhanced by putting pink color into it. This process is known as painting. Pink diamonds are mined in Argyle and therefore, whoever visits this place, definitely visits the mines. These exotic gems are also found in the mines of South Africa, Brazil, and Australia. As it an extremely rare diamond, it can cost around millions. A pink diamond is a symbol of love, delicateness, and grace. It is very popular with women worldwide. As it is not easily available, it is a very precious stone.

The blue diamond is also rare as the pink one. The element which makes them blue is boron. These diamonds are only found in Cullian mine near Pretoria. The most famous blue diamond was worn by Gloria Stewart in the film Titanic. This diamond is popularly known as the "Le Coeur de la Mer"---Heart of the Ocean. In the film's much remembered scene, the elderly Rose removes this diamond and throws it into the ocean as a tribute to her first love Jack. In fact, during the Oscar Awards in 1998, Gloria Stewart wore a $20 million 15 carat blue diamond. She has to be accompanied by bodyguards because of the precious gem.

Black diamonds are considered hypnotic as they absorb and retain all the light. This diamond is popularly known as Carbonado. It is found in the alluvial deposits in the Central African Republic and Brazil. These black diamonds are usually found in the young sedimentary rocks. They are very expensive and rare and are supposed to be formed when meteors hit earth. You can invest in the original stones or get the lab created black diamond at a fraction of the price from any good jewelry store. The most famous black diamond is Black Orlov.

Green Diamonds are a result of the gemstone undergoing a natural irradiation process. Therefore, green diamonds are very expensive and rare too like other colored diamonds. Irradiation of a diamond happens when radioactive water percolates through the kimberlite pipes or lamproite formations around the formed diamonds for millions of years. One can easily find yellow-green or green-yellow diamonds in the market at affordable prices rather than the actual green diamond.
The Red diamonds are very valuable and are difficult to find. They come in colors such as red, crimson, scarlet, or vermillion. These are produced in the Argyle mines of Australia in small quantities.

The brown diamonds are also produced in the Argyle mines in Australia but in large quantities. They are less expensive than the rest because generally people are less interested in them. These days though the successful marketing by the Argyle mines and the endorsement by celebrities have brought them into the limelight.
The yellow diamonds were originally found in South Africa. The most famous yellow diamonds are The Red Cross and The Allnatt. These diamonds get their color from nitrogen.

Orange and purple diamonds are extremely rare and hard to find in their pure color.
