Beds Buying Guide

Submitted by John Lewis
Thu, 8 Apr 2010

It is highly recommended to try out the bed before buying it online or over the phone. A bed that is comfortable for you might not be the right choice for your partner. Trying a bed would enable you to understand if it is too soft or too hard for your personal liking.

Moreover, as you spend almost a third of your life in bed, it is of the utmost importance that you choose the right bed to lie on. So, it pays to do your research first.

When choosing your new bed, it's important to think about the style of furniture you would like to include in your bedroom. It can be a stunning centrepiece for your bedroom or a basic piece of furniture just for sleeping on. There are many different types of beds available:

• Bedsteads: These are the most popular type of bed and offer the widest range of styles and designs. Depending on your preference, you can buy a bedstead in solid wood, metal, leather or even fully upholstered fabric.

• Divans: If you are looking for extra storage for your bedroom, you can consider buying a divan. These are available either with 2 or 4 drawers, which are ideal for tucking away your blankets and extra pillows.

• Storage Beds: If you are tight on space and are looking for additional storage capacity in your bedroom, storage beds are ideal. You can store your clothes in the box by opening the top of the bed with an easy to open handle.

• Guest/Folding Beds: When you do not have enough space to fit an additional bed for guests it makes sense to buy a folding bed as can be setup as and when it is required.

Once you decide on the type of bed you want to buy, the next important thing is to think about is what type of mattresses will go with it.

It is always recommended to buy a mattress along with the bed base as most are designed to complement each other. So, buying an expensive and comfortable bed with a cheap mattress would not make much sense.

Furthermore, to have a perfect nights sleep; you might also have to consider buying additional bed accessories, such as a comfortable pillow and cosy duvet.

Whether you are looking to buy a new mattress or a bed, please have a look at John Lewis's online store. Here you can find any style, design or colour of bed you want, from a wide range of bedroom furniture and accessories offered.
