Yellow is associated with a lot of things: sun, brightness, fun, and a positive, carefree attitude. No wonder it\'s becoming a staple of modern home décor. Interior designers agree that yellow is this year\'s key color, not only in walls and flooring but also in furniture, drapes and home accessories. And with summer just around the corner, it\'s the perfect time to join the yellow bandwagon and start brightening up your home.

If you\'re not up for a new paint job, don\'t worry-there are other ways to introduce yellow into your walls without actually changing their color. For starters, try hanging up some wall art. A yellow batik fabric or a nice painting would look great against a bare wall, especially if there\'s some contrast to play up. If the wall is dark, try adding a yellow stripe across it for a strong yet stylish accent.

You can also use yellow for your room fabrics if you\'re not bold enough to work on the walls. Curtains, pillow covers, slipcovers and rugs are all excellent ways to experiment with color. Yellow curtains help diffuse the sunlight and distribute it more evenly across the room. Yellow throw pillows would look great against dark upholstery, such as black or brown leather. Or for a more striking effect, throw on a yellow slipcover over your furniture to instantly change its look.

Another good way to incorporate yellow décor is by using area rugs. Not only do they protect your floors, they also add a nice splash of color to your space. A yellow rug can instantly brighten up a room and even become its focal point. Choose from solid colors to intricate patterns, and from pale yellow shades to deep gold and ochre. Whatever your style is, there\'s sure to be a yellow rug that fits.

The most important rule is not to overdo it. It\'s easy to just fill the room with yellow, but remember that too much of something is never a good thing. Play down the brightness with darker or cooler colors like blue or purple. That way, both shades will highlight each other and keep the room in balance.
