Diamonds are for ever!!

There is absolutely no doubt that a diamond is a girl's best friend and there is nothing that can replace that fact. Hence, you should be aware about diamonds before buying it. 'Action speaks louder than words and so a man needs to be very careful when buying a ring for a special person.

Is it true that the best diamond is the one with more sparkle and brilliance? Let's find out.

Whenever you buy a diamond, you must be aware of the 5 Cs; Cut, Carat, Color, Clarity or cost.

While nature determines the shape, size and clarity of a diamond, the cut of diamond depends on the craftsman. Most of us are under an impression that cut necessarily means the shape of a diamond. However, it is more than that. A cut in a diamond means the way it has been faceted to allow light to pass through it. In a well cut diamond, light enters the diamond and reflects straight back to the viewer's eye.

Carat refers to the size of the diamond. Each carat equals 100 points. Size of the diamond always depends on individual choice. Though a bigger diamond shows off the cut and color more evidently, they are rarer in nature as compared to smaller diamonds.

In terms of color, colorless diamonds are more in demand and valuable as compared to colored ones. The more colorless, the more vividly it can reflect light. However, diamonds with well-defined colors also fetch a hefty price just as the colorless ones.

Generally, all the diamonds have some sort of inclusions, or small flaws, air bubbles, scratches, or other minerals inside them. However, they are not visible to the naked eye. They can only be seen by a gemologist's powerful microscope. The more clearer a diamond, the more its value.

The scale for grading diamond's clarity is:

FL (flawless)
IF (internally flawless)
VVS1 VVS2(very, very small inclusions)
VS1 VS2 (very small inclusions)
SI1 SI2SI3(small inclusions)
I1 I2 I3 (visible inclusions)
Finally, cost or budget is one of the important factors while buying diamonds. Better the quality and cut of the diamond, the more costly it would be. Also, always ask for an AGS Certificate or a GIA Certificate while buying a diamond. You'll also want them to verify that the stone(s) is not a conflict diamond.
