Decorating With PatternsSubmitted by neillisa Wed, 1 Jul 2009
Most designers agree that prints and patterns are a powerful tool for making your space stand out. Whether it\'s a simple traditional home or a contemporary pad, every space can benefit from one or two patterned pieces.
So why aren\'t more homeowners using patterns around the home? Often, they\'re just afraid they can\'t pull it off and stick to safe solid colors. But it\'s really not that complicated. It\'s really just a matter of choosing the right piece and fitting it with the rest of your décor. Not only will it fit in perfectly, it also ties the whole theme together for a more unified look. Area rugs are also a great way to introduce patterns into your home. These days, you can find patterned rugs in just about any style and design, so look for one that fits in with your décor theme. If you\'re using it in a high-traffic area, the pattern can also help hide stains and blemishes so you don\'t have to clean it too often. Finally, the most important rule is to not go overboard. Too many prints can make your room look tacky and drown out the beauty of the pattern. To stay safe, always pair patterned pieces with solid-colored ones so that they really stand out and contribute to the look of your home.
