A diamond is undoubtedly a girl's best friend!

Be it the wedding, birthdays or any other special occasion of your beloved, diamonds are the best and most memorable gifts. With so many types of diamonds available, you should be aware about fake diamonds so that you will be able to distinguish between the fake and a real diamond while buying one.

The first method is to check the authenticity of the diamond with the help of diamond tester as it will help you to differentiate between real and fake diamond. It is an electronic tester that can check all the diamonds except the moissanite stone.

The best fake diamond is the cubic zirconia and the weight of this diamond is around 50% more than a real diamond of the same size and shape.

Another popular method for checking the authenticity is the transparency test in which the diamond is placed up side down on the news paper. If the written matter from the newspaper is legible then be sure that the diamond is not the real one.

One of the disadvantages of this method is that some of the stones may appear to be a real diamond due its fine cutting. This method is very common and enables you to find the real diamond.
The third method that helps you to check the authenticity of the diamond is the fog test. Hold the stone or the diamond and blow some air from your mouth on to the stone, if the fog appears on the stone and stays there for next few seconds then it shows that the stone is not a real diamond because in case of a real diamond, the heat disappears instantly.

The ultra violet test is another method that will enable you to find out the real diamond from a fake one. The real diamond projects blue color light if put under the ultra violet light or the black color.

A real diamond reflects various shades of grey. If you find rainbow reflections, then it must be a fake or low-quality diamond.

Also, watch the diamond from a side angle to check how it reflects and shines. Real diamonds reflect from all sides, while fake diamonds look dull when seen from the side.

Finally, you can test the stone with heat. Real diamond disperse heat immediately and hence, they don't heat up during the test.

Remember, 'Diamonds are forever'. Hence, if you do not want to end up with a stone instead of a diamond, make sure you get any one of the test to authenticate your diamond.
