Digital Photo Frames Buying Guide

Submitted by John Lewis

Although viewing photos on a laptop with high resolution and full blown colours is impressive it is often difficult to share your photos with friends and family. Digital photo frame solves this problem by offering you a perfect solution to view your pictures without the complexities and technicalities of using a computer or laptop.

There are a number of features to consider when buying a digital photo frame:

Screen size:

The LCD screen size of a digital photo frames varies widely. You can find a range of models with screen sizes between 1.5″ to a maximum of 15″. The measurement is usually checked diagonally. It is important to note that the price of the frames goes up as the size of the screen increases.

Screen Resolution:

The resolution usually depends on the TFT technology and the LCD screen used for the screen. A screen with higher resolution displays clearer and sharper pictures with truer colours.

Memory Capacity:

Digital photo frames usually do not come with large amount memory due to them being very expensive. Therefore, most products on sale today come with only 256 MB RAM built-in as standard; however some models do offer the opportunity to add additional memory cards, but at an additional cost.

Video and Slideshow:

Most of the recent photo frames include the option of viewing your photos in the form of a slideshow. That is a great way to enjoy your pictures. You can set up the speed for each different set of slideshows. Some high-end frames also include the option for you to record and watch videos.

Additional Features:

On top of the basic features, it is worthwhile checking to see if there are any additional features included, such as built-in speakers and MP3 music storage. These features allow you to set up background music for each set of slideshow, depending on the theme of the photos. This makes watching the slideshow more enjoyable. Another useful feature is a remote control which allows you to swap between various slideshows, change the background music or even adjust the display resolutions of the screen.

Price:
Pricing of digital photo frames vary between £40 for a 7"(the smallest screen) to £300+ for a full featured 15" (the largest screen) model. 8" digital photo frames are available at around £80, whereas 10" digital photo frames can be found for around £100 - £120.
