Expansions of JollibeeSubmitted by Christine Layug Mon, 21 Sep 2009
Jollibee have long been considered as one of the top fast-food restaurants in the Philippines, even rivaling that of McDonald's. McDonald's, although many consider it as the largest and the most popular fast-food chain in the world, the one country in which the fast-food restaurant haven't yet dominated is the Philippines. This is mainly because of Jollibee's superb collection of fast-food menus as well as integrating some popular Filipino favorites on its list such as Palabok, Molo, Tapa, Tocino, Longanisa, Sopas, and more.
But what made Jollibee Philippine more successful in the field is when the company started to acquire other fast-food restaurants in the Philippines. Other than their own segment, which is a burger and fries restaurant, Jollibee have also come to consider grasping other markets aside from their own. This is also a way for them to further improve their services in providing food that every Filipinos is looking for. Some of Jollibee's acquisitions include Chowking, Greenwich Pizza, Red Ribbon Bakeshop, and Délifrance. Expanding to Oriental Dishes Chowking is a Philippine-based chain that pioneered the Asian quick-service restaurant concept in the Philippines. The concept combines the best in Western fast-food style of service with Chinese food. Chowking predominantly sells noodle soups, dimsum, and rice toppings. On January 1, 2000, Chowking became a wholly owned subsidiary of Jollibee Foods Corporation, the Philippines' biggest fast-food chain. The change in ownership gave rise to store renovations and a new corporate look and mindset that is visible from front-end to back-end. Expanding to Italian Dishes Greenwich started as an over-the-counter pizza store in the Greenhills Commercial Center in Metro Manila in 1971. In 1994, Jollibee Foods Corporation obtained a deal acquiring 80% of Greenwich shareholding. Then in 2006 Jollibee Philippine bought out the remaining shares of its partners in Greenwich Pizza Corp. Through this, Greenwich eventually became the largest pizza and pasta chain in the Philippines. Expanding to Cakes and Pastries Red Ribbon Bakeshop is a popular fast-food chain and bakery in the Philippines and the United States, offering a wide range of cakes and pastries. It was in 2005 that Jollibee Foods Corporation acquired Red Ribbon Bakeshop as one of their own. Expanding to Fresh Pastries Délifrance is a bakery company that serves "French style" bakery products in over 50 countries on five continents. In 2006, Jollibee Philippine acquired the franchise of Délifrance. This further expanded its penetration in the food service industry, particularly in the French cafe-bakery, a growing segment of the Philippine food market.
