Dressing for Your Face and Body TypeSubmitted by sarahY Mon, 8 Jun 2009
Fashion magazines offer up a wide selection of clothes and accessories, but more often than not, they\'ll look less than appealing on the everyday buyer. Pretty as they are, the styles you see in magazines are hardly ever realistic-they\'re just meant to sell products, even if it\'s to the wrong people. The key to dressing well is knowing what looks good on you and what fits your personality.
It\'s not as hard as it seems. The first thing you\'ll have to do is determine your best and worst features, so you can find ways to highlight or downplay them as necessary. If you\'re tall and have a nice posture, show it off with A-line skirts and fitted tops. Likewise, if you\'re short, draw attention away from your height with shorter cuts and shoes that highlight your ankles. The colors you wear also play a big role in how you look. It\'s not just about choosing your favorite colors-it\'s also knowing what colors look best on you. Muted shades and earth colors usually work best on tanned skin, while dark shades help pale skin look more radiant. Always have a stock of basic pieces in neutral colors like black and white, so you\'ll have a safe last resort in case you run out. Next, you\'ll need to work on the most important feature-your face. The right makeup can do wonders for your appearance, whether you\'re at work, at a party, or even just relaxing at home. Hide flaws with concealer and foundation, and look for products that suit your skin type. And make sure to draw attention to the good stuff-your high cheekbones, your full lips, those deep-set eyes. Finally, you need to accessorize. You can dress by the book and get every inch right, but still lack that punch. It\'s the way you accent your pieces that really bring out your character. So don\'t be afraid to use accessories, as long as they fit in with the rest of your outfit. Whether it\'s a well-chosen watch or a stylish pair of earrings, it adds that personal touch that really sets you apart.
Not everyone is born looking like a fashion model, but anyone can recreate that look with a few simple tricks. Read on to find out how.
