Eco-Friendly FashionSubmitted by sarahY Wed, 10 Jun 2009
When you think of eco-friendly fashion, you probably think of vintage clothes or those dowdy styles from the past century. Or you probably picture the overpriced collections from international fashion houses. Well, that\'s not all there is to it. Anyone can now make the green choice from clothes to makeup to accessories, and many of them are surprisingly affordable. It\'s all a matter of knowing what\'s green and what\'s not.
Clothes come in a wide range of fabrics, but many of them are synthetic or made with artificial fibers. Look for those made of 100% natural materials, such as cotton and wool. Avoid nylon blends as they tend to shrink and lose color. Natural fabrics are not just more eco-friendly; they\'re also more comfortable and easier to care for. Organic cotton is the best choice, but it can be hard to find and tends to be overpriced. Eco-friendly footwear can mean no animal products (also called \"vegan footwear\") or simply no synthetic or chemical content. Your best choice is to look for recycled materials, or those made from plant fibers that have not been chemically treated. You\'d be surprised at the range of choices available, from casual flats and flip-flops to formal designs you can wear to work. Just make sure to choose a good brand, since smaller companies often compromise quality for price. Makeup is probably one of the best places to start going green, as there are so many products to choose from. Eco-friendly makeup has the added advantage of being safer for your skin and lasting much longer than its conventional counterparts. All-natural and organic makeup don\'t contain any added chemicals. Consider getting mineral makeup-it\'s made from naturally occurring earth minerals and even has anti-bacterial properties. Green choices also abound in fashion accessories. Sure, you won\'t find solid gold or platinum pieces, but your options are just as stylish and go with pretty much any clothing style. Most of these pieces are handmade, so you can be sure yours is unlike any other. Look for key pieces made from recycled or refurbished materials, such as copper. Or if you want that hippie look, try some wood, bamboo, or wire jewelry to go with your casual wear.
Who says you can\'t go green and still have a sense of style? These tips offer some eco-friendly fashion ideas for any style and budget. Find more information about eco friendly makeup.
