Evening Fashion Tips

Summer may be all about dressing light and keeping things simple, but sometimes you have to glam it up a bit more. Nighttime events, for example, often require people to dress up a bit fancier. The lighting, mood, and even the temperature tend to be different during the evenings, and you want to make sure you're properly made up.

The most noticeable difference between day and evening clothing is the color palette. Although there's no clear line between day and night colors, evening clothes are usually more saturated, or come in deeper shades than their daytime counterparts. For example, a pale green sundress may work for a day on the beach, but you may want to slip into an emerald gown for a soiree or dinner party.

Hairstyles also take a bit more work for evening events. In the daytime, you can usually let it hang loose or tie it back in a ponytail. For the evening, you want a neater, more formal look, even if it's a casual gathering. Instead of your usual ponytail, try a French braid or a bun with just a few wisps flowing down. Since there tends to be less activity in the evenings, you don't have to worry about your hair getting messy.

Evening makeup, like clothing, allows you to dig into the brighter end of the spectrum. Don't be afraid to use red, blue, green, and other eye-catching shades. Since evening parties are more intimate, you'll want to pay special attention to your eyes-a bit of eyeliner can really define their shape and give you a more intense gaze. You can also choose to tone down the eyes and highlight your lips, but not both as this results in a tacky, overdone look.

Finally, don't forget to accessorize. Daytime fashion usually needs little to no accessories, but evening the perfect time to load it on. Shiny necklaces, bangles, and body shimmer all add a nice glow to your look and make the perfect accompaniment to your outfit. Just make sure to keep it subtle-too much jewelry and you'll be uncomfortable, not to mention look like a walking ornament.

Dressing up for evening events is different from dressing for work, school, or a beach party. This guide offers a few tips on evening fashion, from coordinating colors to choosing the right makeup and accessories.
