Shifting a clothing retail business to wholesale clothing business is one of the many approaches that businessmen and women take when it comes to handling their businesses. Although retail business can be profitable, especially when the location is perfect and the collection are always updated, the income coming from a wholesale clothing business is still larger compared to retail. This is obviously because wholesale clothing usually does their business with other business establishments that usually buys in bulk, rather than in retail in which a customer would buy only one kind of product.

Usually, most wholesalers today came from being a retailer, which is why some wholesalers today still own their a retail shop or two to provide cheaper sets of clothing compared to other retailers. These are, in fact, wholesale clothing businesses that also serves the end market. So what are the difference of wholesaling from retailing? What are the changes that retailers should be aware of when shifting their business from retail to wholesale?

Change 1: Capital
Changing from retail to wholesale practically means changing the amount of capital that retailers would like spend. This is usually because wholesalers would have to deal not with the end market, but with other business establish, most like are retailers. Because of this, wholesalers would have to get more stocks, that usually would require more capital. Although cheaper per piece, particularly when it comes straight to the manufacturer, the bulk in which wholesalers would have to stock up are twice as many compared to those that retailers stock up.

Change 2: Customer
Although some wholesalers would still serve the end market or consumers, wholesale clothing businesses would usually serve to other business establishment. Aside from retailers, wholesalers would also serve other wholesale clothing businesses, as well as exporters and importers.

Change 3: Location and Storage
Having more stock would require more room. This is the reason why some wholesalers would rent, buy, or build store houses in which where they will store their stock. Unlike retailing, in which stocks are usually hidden away in the back of the store, wholesalers would have to get larger storage spaces to house their stock. Location, on the other hand, isn't as important as those with retailers. This is because wholesalers aren't usually attracting customers to visit their store, because their isn't even any store to begin with. The only thing that wholesalers would have to take into account is the accessibility of their store houses from other business establishments, such as the manufacturer and retailers. Staying close with these business establishments would make it easier to supply retailers and to get new stocks from manufacturers.

Change 4: Office Setting
Usually, wholesale clothing business doesn't have any stores such as those with retailers, only offices. These offices only functions as a way to get hold with clients and new clients. Some wholesalers would even set up their offices on their store houses, to cut back on bills.
