Size. Don't easily trust the age indicated on the clothing. What kids wear is the size that's right for them. A twelve-month old baby might actually be wearing 18M clothes if he or she is big, or a four-year old actually might be fit for 3T clothes if he or she is on the smaller side. It would be safer to take note of the child's weight and height to serve as your guide when shopping. If in doubt between two sizes, get the bigger one because kids always grow bigger but they don't get smaller.
Safety. Although there are regulations when it comes to safety of apparels sold, it is still a good idea to do your own safety check. Make sure that there are no unsafe parts in the apparel like small parts on footwear, drawstrings that can get caught on playground equipment, tiny buttons that could easily get dislodged and be choking hazards, and many more. If you are buying sleepwear for children nine months and older, make sure it is flame-resistant or snug-fitting.
Convenience. Choose clothes that are easy to put on and to remove. Some infant clothing has features like snaps at the crotch for easy diaper changing. To make room for growth, look for bottom wear that has elastics or adjustable waistbands. Also, machine washable clothes are the easiest to care for.
Style. Of course, style should count. Children's clothing also comes out with trends regularly. If the kid is old enough to choose, don't be afraid to let them choose for their own with your guidance.
