Every gem has its own share of history and myth. Aquamarine is probably one of the most controversial or mythologized gem in ancient, medieval, and present centuries. For those who are knowledgeable about gems, Aquamarine is one of the precious gems that ever existed because of its inherent beauty and class, backed up with its rich and exciting stories of myths and history.

Aquamarine jewelry was and is associated with relational mythical abilities. Romans believed that if carved with frog, it will promote reconciliation among enemies. They also believed that it protects sailors in their voyages against stormy seas. In medieval times, aquamarine was believed to reawaken married couple's love. Egyptians, Sumerians, and Hebrews regarded aquamarine jewelry as the symbol of happiness and everlasting youth. In the 19th century, aquamarine was identified with St. Thomas, the apostle. It was also widely used among royal bloods because of its antidote ability against poisons. Middle age stories will tell us that aquamarine was popularly used as crystal balls, a powerful source of fortune, and as a divining tool. Meanwhile, folklore regarded aquamarine as the bearer of victories in battles. It was also said to have medical abilities such as curing ailments in the jaw, stomach, liver and throat. Aquamarine was said to relieve pain from toothaches, and fights yawning and belching.

It is a normal human tendency to create and believe myth from almost anything, pass that myth or story from generations to generations. Whether or not those myths or stories were true, one thing that is not subject to debate or question, is the aquamarine's beauty and elegance. For centuries, aquamarine jewelry has consistently proven its durability and timeless beauty, as manifested by its wide use in society's important people and events such as those of the royal bloods, and those who are in battles.

Today, aquamarine jewelry is still one of the most expensive and precious jewelry out in jewelry auction. Its seawater color, from green to blue varieties, almost always catches attention. It has been used as accessory by today's most influential people, celebrities, and royalties. There is no wonder why in jewelry auction, aquamarine is always in attendance.
